  • Patent number: 4047003
Abstract: A plurality of multi-functioning machines are simultaneously controlled by similar transmitter/receiver pairs, one of which is associated with a programmable controller and the other of which is associated with a machine. In the controller terminal, each transmitter of one such pair transmits a series of groups of serial command signals while its receiver receives corresponding groups of serial condition-responsive signals from the machine which update the controller. In the machine terminal, the transmitter of the other pair is connected to the controller receiver and the receiver is connected to the controller transmitter. Each transmitter derives input from a multiplexing matrix and each receiver outputs its information through a demultiplexer matrix. Each transmitter/receiver pair is driven by a free-running clock but the pair associated with the machine is slaved to the controller transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4044314
Abstract: A frequency synthesizer in which the frequency of a variable frequency oscillator is controlled by means of a control signal and wherein means are provided for determining whether any frequency variation results from a drift in the frequency of the variable frequency oscillator means being provided for generating and maintaining an additional drift control signal to compensate for such drift. The drift control signal is inhibited from change either when it is detected that the control signal is in excess of that which would result solely from drift or the control signal is representative only of a quantisation error.

  • Patent number: 4041651
Abstract: A knife sharpener of the kind having a hollow scabbard or housing for a knife blade, and a blade sharpening device arranged to be engaged by the blade cutting edge as the blade is moved into and out of the housing. The sharpening device is mounted on the front end of a carrier member which has its rear end pivotally connected to the housing so that the front end can be swung towards and away from a top wall of the housing. A biasing spring urges the front end of the carrier towards the housing top wall. A reaction member is disposed between that housing top wall and the carrier member and is pivotally connected to the housing for movement about an axis which is parallel to the carrier pivot axis and is located between the ends of the reaction member. A rear end of the reaction member engages an upper surface of the carrier member at a location between the carrier pivot and the zone at which the biasing spring acts on the carrier member.

  • Patent number: 4040235
Abstract: An improved apparatus for packaging a plurality of flexible liquid filled pouches in an outer flexible container.Known similar machines have been limited in their speed of operation, such that production from such machines has not been as high as desired. To increase the speed of operation of the apparatus, it is proposed to utilize a feed conveyor incorporating a fluid-actuated clutch assembly which engages and disengages one of the conveyor pulleys from the conveyor belt. Operation of the clutch permits instantaneous operation of the feed conveyor assembly. Further, during high speed operation of the prior machines, flexible pouches tend to somersault when leaving the conveyor belt from the discharge end thereof. To prevent this somersaulting effect, it is proposed to utilize a pivotable barrier adjacent the output end of the feed conveyor. By utilizing the barrier, alignment of flexible pouches within the cradle assembly is achieved, even during high speed operation of the packaging apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4038806
Abstract: A device for stacking and packaging coins. The coins are inserted into the top of a vertically oriented cylindrical housing that can be closed at its lower end by a swivel-mounted closure. The interior diameter of the housing corresponds to the diameter of the coins to be processed. The stacked coins are rotated around their axes by several guide rollers set parallel to the axis of the stack and at least as high as the stack. They are wrapped in paper fed into the machine tangentially to the stack and then passed through a cutting device. Two edging hooks, one located at the top, the other at the bottom of the stack fold the excess paper over. Timing of the different stages is automatically adjusted.
