Abstract: A system and method for controlling the inflation of an air bag in a vehicle utilizes a seat weight sensor, a seat belt tension measurement sensor, and a capacitive position sensing sensor. The capacitive sensor is mounted at a point relative to an air bag inflator door and responsive to the proximity thereto of an object to be sensed. An air bag control processor operatively coupled to a plurality of air bag squibs is provided for controlling the inflation of the air bag responsive to the force exerted on the vehicle seat, the tension sensed in the seat belt, and the proximity of an object or occupant to the inflator door.

Abstract: Temporally interlaced first and second sequential pluralities of image frames are displayed and alternately directed along respected first and second optical paths to distinct viewing locations, for example the left and right eyes of a viewer, wherein the image frames of one of the sequential pluralities represent mirror images of the object being imaged. In one aspect, both sets of sequential pluralities of image frames are simultaneously distributed to both optical paths and first and second shutters are controlled in synchronism with the image display so as to display the respective sequential pluralities of image frames only at the corresponding viewing locations. In another aspect, respective first and second sequential pluralities of image frames are switched between the first and second optical paths by synchronously switching the polarization state of the image display and by a polarizing beam splitter.

Abstract: In a process for preparing the mold walls (12a, 12b) of a mold (12, 12) for the molding or shaping of a molded part after completion of the molding cycle and after removal of the molded part from the mold (12) to make the mold walls ready for the next molding cycle, the tempering of the mold walls (12a, 12b) and the coating of the walls with mold wall treatment agent are carried out independently of each other, i.e., without any time overlap, and in a controlled manner, preferably in a program-controlled manner. To apply the coating, preferably a spray element with centrifugal atomization and air control is used, the mold walls preferably being coated with essentially solvent-free mold wall treatment agent.

Abstract: A method for preparing a rubber seal product of a type which contacts a metal surface for sealing thereof, comprising the steps of: preparing a rubber composition comprising acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), (A) a carbocyclic phosphite compound represented by the general formula ##STR1## where R is an alkyl group having 8 to 24 carbon atoms, or a phenyl group having a mono-, di- or tri-substituted alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and (B) an acid phosphate compound represented by the general formula ##STR2## where R' is a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group having 1 to 13 carbon atoms, and R" is an alkyl group having 1 to 13 carbon atoms, the phosphate compound having an acid number of about 150 to 800 KOH mg/g; wherein a total of about 5 to 20 parts by weight of compound (A) and compound (B) are present in the composition based on 100 parts by weight of NBR, vulcanizing the rubber composition to obtain a vulcanized rubber composition; and compressing the vulcanized rubber composition toward a metal s
Abstract: A novel elastic bumper assembly put on an automotive vehicle or the like which includes an elastic bumper member adapted for repetitive cushioning against impacts, wherein the elastic bumper member is formed of a material selected from at least one of the group consisting of solid and foamed elastomeric materials. The elastic bumper member assembly further includes an insert member generally having a cup shape, the insert member having locking holes and dimples. The insert member is molded within the elastic bumper member. The insert member includes a locator projection which extends from the elastic bumper member. A fastener extends from the insert member through the elastic bumper assembly.

Abstract: Blends of polyketone polymers with polyolefin polymers are described which are compatibilized by a reactive blend of a polyamide polymer and a maleated polyolefin polymer. The compatibilization is attained without chemical linkage between the compatibilizer and the polyketone polymer. Such compatibilized blends offer good mechanical properties and the ability to melt bond to both neat polyketone polymers and neat polyolefin polymers.
Abstract: A coated pivot pin/detent assembly for use in the manufacture of a molded article. The assembly is coated with a material that adheres to the pivot pin/detent assembly and protects the assembly during the molding process. The coating material also provides lubrication for facilitating movement between the pivot pin and detent.
Abstract: A mechanical face seal for use in a pump. The mechanical face seal including a seal head assembly, a seal seat assembly opposite and in contact with the seal head assembly. The seal head assembly including a gimbal ring engaging a first and second pair of gimbal pads. The first pair of gimbal pads is integral with an impeller insert and the second pair of gimbal pads is integral with a seal washer. The gimbal ring will continually adjust to misalignments of the pump and the seal components when hydraulic forces overcome the spring load of the seal head assembly and clamps the gimbal ring between the two pair of gimbal pads.
Abstract: A low profile fixture clamp which provides a clamping force in two perpendicular directions through the motion of a pneumatic cylinder in a single plane. The principle component of the clamping force is a horizontal force in-line with the force generated by the pneumatic air cylinder. An additionally vertical downward clamping force is also generated.
Abstract: A cable strand end-fitting having a housing which defines a longitudinal bore with internal threads to receive a screw member with external threads, the threads cooperate to allow axial movement of the screw member relative to the housing. A longitudinal passageway through the screw member receives a cable strand extending therethrough, one end of the cable strand is a terminal end bulb which abuts the screw member so the axial movement of the screw member adjusts the cable strand. The housing includes a mounting portion having a cylindrical opening generally perpendicular to the longitudinal bore, the cylindrical opening is adapted to be disposed over a mounting post along the longitudinal axis of the mounting post. A retainer clip secures the end-fitting to the mounting post with opposed locking teeth which are adapted to be positioned through diametrically opposed slots in the mounting portion of the housing thereby engaging the mounting post for securement.
