Abstract: Walls are constructed using roof support posts for load bearing, and panels therebetween. The panels provide both the inner and outer surfaces of the walls, and form with adjacent panels, recesses to accommodate the roof support posts.
Abstract: A process for producing yeast protein from biological waste material includes preliminary anaerobic fermentation of said material, inoculation with a pellicle-forming yeast growing as a surface layer, and skimming off and drying said surface layer. Specific yeasts are CANDIDA INGENS and PICHIA MEMBRANAEFACIENS.
Abstract: Apparatus for producing tubes by helically winding strips of thermoplastics synthetic sheet material, comprising a double-shell coolable draw-off mandrel onto which, immediately after its extrusion through a slit nozzle or after being heated to a workable state, the sheet material is wound spirally in overlapping manner in such a way that it is formed into a tube with an obliquely extending winding seam, pull-off apparatus to cause and permit axial and rotational movement of the tube relative to the draw-off mandrel and cooling means to act directly on the sheet material wound into a tube on the draw-off mandrel. The double-shell draw-off mandrel can be cooled by liquid coolants circulating through a closed cooling system and between inner and outer shells of the mandrel. Conveyors extending longitudinally of the mandrel and laterally overlapping with one another can be provided to reduce friction between the tube and the mandrel.
Abstract: A method of controlling a multi-roll calender producing a sheet of synthetic plastics, rubber or other elastomeric material comprising sensing the pressure of material being calendered in roll gaps of the calender, which roll gaps follow one after another in the direction of movement of the sheet; adjusting the width of the two gaps formed with mating rolls on opposite sides of at least some of the rolls to cause the difference between the pressures in the two gaps to be as small as is practicable; and maintaining such pressures substantially constant.

Abstract: An extruder screw for the processing of thermoplastics, natural rubber and other elastomeric materials, comprising a screw core and a plurality of webs spiralling around the core and forming a multi-start thread in which, for at least a portion of the length of the extruder screw, the webs each have alternating lengths of lower height and lengths of greater height and, at the trailing end, having regard to the direction of rotation of the screw, of each of the web lengths of greater height, a transverse web is provided of approximately the same height as the web lengths of lower height, such transverse webs each connecting the trailing end of a respective one of the web lengths of greater height with the leading end of one of the web lengths of lower height of the next adjacent rearward, having regard to the direction of conveyance of material through the extruder, one of the webs. Preferably the lengths of web of greater height and the lengths of web of lower height are all of equal length.
Abstract: A method for joining foils which includes the steps of mechanically coating at a high speed at least one of the foil sides to be joined with a reaction product of a hydroxy-functional polyethers or polyesters with polyisocyanates or polyisothiocyanates, said reaction product containing free --NCO or --NCS groups and being reactable with H-acid compounds, and subsequently laminating foils. The reaction product has an average molecular weight of from about 500-10,000 and a --NCO or --NCS group content of from about 1-10% by weight, is substantially solvent-free when applied and has a viscosity of at most 60 Pas under application conditions. The temperature of the reaction product application conditions is adjusted to at most 140.degree. C but not less than a temperature which is so far below the temperature of the ambient air that air humidity will be condensed in the reaction product to be applied in such an amount that its pot-life would drop the value required for the implementation of the method.

Abstract: Disclosed is an ensilaging agent for fodder comprising from about 0.75 to 1 part by weight of an alkali metal salt of nitrous acid, from about 0.3 to 0.8 parts by weight of a compound yielding an aliphatic aldehyde having 1 to 6 carbon atoms during the ensilaging process, and from about 0.15 to 1.5 parts by weight of benzoic acid or a salt thereof for each 1 part by weight of combined nitrous acid salt and aldehyde yielding compound. An improved method is also disclosed wherein the disclosed ensilaging agent is added to fodder in an amount of from about 0.05% to about 0.5% of the fodder weight and comprises from about 0.02 to 0.2% by weight of an alkali metal salt of nitrous acid, from about 0.015 to 0.1% by weight of a compound yielding an aliphatic aldehyde having 1 to 6 carbon atoms during the ensilaging process and from about 0.01 to 0.2% by weight of benzoic acid or a salt thereof for each 1 part by weight of combined nitrous acid salt and aldehyde yielding compound.
