    Abstract: Queuing of interexchange messages in a multi-exchange digital telecommunication network is provided using a dynamic store into cells of which the messages are placed. A subsidiary control store has a cell for each cell of the message store and each of these cells contains a control word which contains the status-busy/free of its message cell, plus details of the message including the user for which it is stored when the cell is busy. These details include message priorities, so that queues of messages awaiting attention can be assembled in the store.

    Abstract: A double-walled finned heat transfer tube is provided for use in heat exchangers. The heat transfer tube includes an inner tube inserted within an externally finned outer tube. The assembly is subjected to a crimping operation which produces radial convexities along the length of the outer tube which serve to lock the inner tube and outer tube together in intimate heat conducting relationship and which produces radial concavities between the inner and outer tubes which serve as leakage channels. The crimping operation also produces grooves in the external finned surface which improves heat transfer between the assembly and an external medium.

    Abstract: A carrier terminal unit for interfacing 1.544 MHz PCM lines to a digital switch, wherein voice samples are switched at 2.048 MHz, provides bit synchronization, in-frame monitoring, delay equalization and correction, framing detection, and rate and format conversion. A common memory is utilized for the delay equalization and correction, framing detection and rate and format conversion functions. The memory acts as an elastic store for delay equalization. Delay correction is provided by monitoring the relative positions of the memory read and write addresses and initializing the write addresses after an overtaking of the read or write addresses by the other is detected. Rate and format conversion are provided by storing incoming PCM samples in the memory and reading the samples out in accordance with a predetermined sequence. Framing detection is provided by storing in memory every nth bit of three alternate frames of incoming data.

    Abstract: An improved safety clamp device for use with movable platforms and the like includes a body member having a safety cable receiving cradle, a lever arm having a safety cable engaging portion, an elongate member carrying a pulley at either end, and a control arm. The control arm is in the form of a modified bellcrank having one arm portion pivotally connected to the body member, its apex connected to the elongate member and a pulley connected to a second arm portion. The lower end of the elongate member is rigidly connected to the movable platform. A drive or support cable passes on one side of the two pulleys on the elongate member and on the other side of the control arm pulley. The elongate member is maintained in a first position relative to the body member such that the safety cable engaging portion confronts but does not engage the safety cable when the drive or support cable is subjected to a predetermined tension.

    Abstract: An arrangement is described for testing a communication path to a 2-wire analog line through a time-division multiplexed switching system, wherein each analog line is coupled to the system by a hybrid circuit which provide separate transmit and receive paths. A digital tone source is coupled to a time-division bus of the system such that the digital tone source transmits signals toward the line on the receive path. A ring relay associated with the line is operated to produce an open circuit condition between the hybrid circuit and the line. The open circuit alters the transhybrid loss of the hybrid circuit such that the signals on the receive path are reflected back toward the time-division bus on the transmit path. A digital tone detector is coupled to the transmit path such that the reflected signals may be detected.
