  • Patent number: 6728479
Abstract: The object of this invention is to provide a panel-type heating element having an excellent durability and high effectiveness in power saving. To attain this object, the present invention provides a panel-type heating element consisting of a base which a thin film containing zinc oxide and tin oxide can form a layer upon. The panel-type heating element is advantageously manufactured by a method comprising spraying a solution containing a zinc compound and a tin compound on a base. The solution then oxidizes by heating the base in a high temperature reaction chamber to form a thin film consisting of sediment containing zinc oxide and tin oxide on the surface of the base. As a result, the thin film gives the base excellent acid, water and chemical resistance, and heats quickly.

  • Patent number: 6701664
Abstract: Seed tape (1) for a controlled germinating process is made of at least two paper layers (1′ and 1″) and is intended to be used while placed edgewise. Each germinating unit includes a seed (5), additives (6) and a carrier (8). Each germinating unit (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) is formed as a planar member. The longitudinal axis of each planar member extends substantially transverse to the longitudinal direction of the tape. The additives are places in discrete locations around the seed. The seed, the additives and the carrier are adhered to the inner face of at least one paper layer (1′), which is air-permeable. A narrow stripe (10) of water-absorbing, super-absorbing polymer (SAP) is placed on the adhesive layer of at least one paper layer (1′ or 1″). The resulting seed tape is particularly suited for providing a controlled moist microclimate around the seeds during a two-step germinating process.

  • Patent number: 6699095
Abstract: A balloon has an inflatable main body with a flexible extension. The extension is connected to the main body in such a manner that, when they are inflated, the extension forms a semirigid handle. The balloon therefore requires no separate holder. The balloon can be deflated for storage or shipment and reinflated when desirable or necessary.

  • Patent number: 6690569
Abstract: A sensor, in particular a humidity sensor, comprises a measuring layer (4), the dielectric properties of which depend on a parameter to be measured, e.g. of the humidity of the environmental air. Electrodes (2, 3) are arranged on a substrate (1) side by side for capacitively measuring the measuring layer (1). A protective layer (8) of a non-oxidizing material, in particular a layer of silicon oxide or gold, is arranged between the electrodes (2, 3) and the measuring layer (4). This layer prevents an oxidation of the electrodes (2, 3) and increases the live time and reliability of the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6684667
Abstract: First and second separable portions such as opposite ends of a strap that is wrapped around one or more articles to be secured are overlapped. A ratchet is operable with the portions joined in overlapping relation for increasing the amount of the overlap, thereby effectively shortening the strap and taking up slack. A mechanical advantage is provided that makes it easy to tighten the strap securely around one or more articles. A lock can be locked to prevent, or unlocked to enable, separation of the portions.

  • Patent number: 6679507
Abstract: A combined carrier and transport unit is open at the top and has a perforated bottom. The unit is made of sheet material and has a substantially U-shaped cross section. The bottom of the U forms the bottom wall of the unit and the two sides of the U form side supporting walls for a seed tape that can be folded and placed edgewise on the bottom wall. Connecting members are provided in the transition area between the bottom wall and each side supporting wall. These connecting members can be bent outwards and downwards so that the side walls and the bottom wall are on the same level when the unit is not in use, and can be bent upwards when the unit is in use. The resulting unit is very light, and in the empty piled state it requires very little room.

  • Patent number: 6670855
Abstract: In a PLL device with a plurality of phase comparators, when one phase comparator has reached a locked state, this phase comparator is allowed to keep on delivering an output, while outputs of the other phase comparators are disabled. Accordingly, power consumption can be reduced. Furthermore, an error current output from a charge pump (109) connected to the phase comparators to output an error signal is reduced when lock approaches. Accordingly, lock failure can be avoided. Furthermore, a time constant of a low-pass filter (220) that receives the output of the charge pumps connected to the phase comparators is altered following alteration of the number of the phase comparators (212 to 219) that deliver their outputs. Accordingly, power consumption can be reduced, and also stability and converging speed are improved. Using distribution means (318) instead of frequency dividers provided for the phase comparators individually makes LSI implementation easy.

  • Patent number: 6653976
Abstract: A pseudolite for transmitting a global positioning system (GPS) signal having identification information for a GPS satellite that is currently out-of-view. The pseudolite mimics a global positioning system (GPS) signal by using a C/A pseudorandom (PRN) identification code for a GPS satellite that is allocated in the GPS system but is unreceivable in the local vicinity and location-determination information including ephemeris data corresponding to the geographical location of the pseudolite. In order to ensure that two of the GPS pseudolites in the same vicinity do not use the identification PRN code from the same out-of-view GPS satellite, the pseudolite listens first before transmitting to detect the identifications in the received GPS signals.

  • Patent number: 6578317
Abstract: A germinating unit for germination of seeds comprises two material layers (2, 3) of paper and a seed (4) placed between said two material layers. A mixture (5) of a carrier and additives is placed between the material layers, said additives being permanently or loosely bound to said carrier by means of a binder. The seed (4) and the mixture (5) are bound to at least one of the material layers (2, 3). The two material layers are interconnected preferably at their rim portions (1′) by being glued or pressed together by way of stamping. A germinating tape can be formed by means of a row of coherent germinating units. As a result the germinating unit and the germinating tape are produced in a very simple an cost-saving manner, and furthermore it is very environmentally acceptable. In addition, the germination can be efficiently controlled, and it is easy to mechanically bed out the germinating unit in the soil at a desired interval and a desired depth.
