Abstract: A method of determining the content of polar-substituted alkyl nitrosoamines in a sample at levels as low as 20 nanograms in the presence of interfering substances such as nitrites and the like. After chromatographic separation, the nitrosoamine is reacted with reagent comprising hydrogen bromide, sulfanilamide, hydrochloric acid, surfactant and N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine to give a colored product.
Abstract: Imides derived from 2-thioxo-3-benzothiazoline acetic and propionic have been found to be effective as herbicides and plant growth regulants. Imides derived from 2-thioxo-3-benzoxazoline acetic and propionic acid have been found to be effective plant growth regulants.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a class of alpha-chloro-N-alkoxymethyl-N-(2,6-dialkoxyphenyl)acetamides which are effective in regulating the natural growth or development of plants. As employed herein, the term "natural growth or development" designates the normal life cycle of the plant in accordance with its genetics and its environment, in the absence of artificial, external influences. More particularly, this disclosure is concerned with a method wherein turfgrasses are treated with an alpha-chloro-N-alkoxymethyl-N-(2,6-dialkoxyphenyl)acetamide which serves to retard or reduce the rate of turfgrass growth. Such a treatment may also serve to retard or reduce the formation of seedheads and seedhead stalk elongation.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of certain N-substituted-2-haloacetanilides via the reaction of a secondary 2-haloacetanilide with a haloalkyl ether, particularly, halomethyl ethers, which comprises forming the ether in situ by the in-solvent reaction of an alcohol, formaldehyde or other aldehyde and an acid halide to produce high purity haloalkyl ethers, while decreasing the concentration of undesirable bis by products, as for example bis(chloromethyl) ether. The ether formed in situ thereafter reacts with the secondary 2-haloacetanilide in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and base to form the N-substituted-2-haloacetanilide.
Abstract: 2-chloro-4,5-disubstituted-thiazoles have been found to be effective in reducing herbicidal injury to sorghum plants due to the application thereto of acetanilide and thiocarbamate herbicides.
Abstract: The present invention relates to N-(pyridylmethyl)-2-oxobenzothiazoline and N-(pyridylmethyl)-2-oxobenzoxazoline compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein: T is hydrogen, alkyl containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, halo, --CF.sub.3, --CN or --NO.sub.2n is zero, 1 or 2; X is oxygen or sulfur; R is equal to ##STR2## their use in a method of regulating leguminous plant growth as well as compositions containing the novel compounds as the active ingredient.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for encapsulation, and particularly to the production of small or minute capsules constituted by a skin or thin wall of polyurea, which involves bringing together an aqueous phase containing a lignin sulfonate emulsifier and a water-immiscible phase containing a water-immiscible material, the material to be encapsulated, plus polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate, dispersing the water-immiscible phase in the aqueous phase followed by addition of a polyfunctional amine. Polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate reacts with the amine to form a solid polyurea shell wall about the encapsulated material. The capsules formed may be directly used as aqueous suspensions.
