Abstract: Alkyl-[di(benzyl) or di(aryl)]esters of N-phosphonomethyl glycine are produced by the reaction of a dibenzyl or diaryl phosphite with an N-methylene alkyl glycinate trimer. These esters and the hydrolysis products thereof containing at least one benzyloxy or aryloxy group bonded to phosphorus are novel compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a member of the group consisting of phenyl, benzyl, naphthyl, biphenylyl, benzyloxyphenyl and phenyl, benzyl or naphthyl groups substituted with from 1 to 3 groups selected from the class consisting of hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, trifluoromethyl, carbo (lower alkoxy), nitro, or halo; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or an R group, and R.sub.2 is a lower alkyl group or hydrogen, and the strong acid salts of the compounds wherein neither R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is H. These compounds are useful as post-emergent herbicides.
Abstract: Certain N-(2-hydroxyalkyl) derivatives of N-phosphonomethylglycine have been found to be useful as herbicides for the treatment of undesired plants.
Abstract: Novel 5-aryl-1,2,4-thiadiazole-3-carboxylates have been found to be effective in reducing herbicidal injury to desirable plants. Said compounds are also useful in increasing the sucrose content of sugar cane.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to phosphinylmethylimino-acetic acid N-oxide compounds and to sucrose increasing compositions and methods. The compounds and compositions are useful as sucrose increasing agents when applied to sugar cane prior to harvesting.
Abstract: This disclosure contemplates N-phosphonomethyl glycine ester anhydrides as new compounds, as well as a process for producing such compounds. This disclosure also contemplates the use of such N-phosphonomethyl glycine ester anhydrides as herbicides and as aids in the harvesting of citrus fruit. Also disclosed are compositions containing the N-phosphonomethyl glycine ester anhydride as active ingredients, such composition being useful as herbicides and for aiding in the harvesting of citrus fruit.
Abstract: Lactones prepared by cyclizing certain N-(2-hydroxyalkyl)-N-phosphonomethylglycine compounds are useful as post-emergent herbicides for the treatment of undesired plants.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to acetimidic acid ester hydrochlorides. More particularly, this disclosure relates to novel (.alpha.-diaryloxyphosphinylmethylamino) acetimidic hydrocarbon ester hydrochloride, herbicidal compositions containing such acetimidic hydrochloride and the herbicidal use thereof.
Abstract: Isocyanoacylamides have been found to inhibit the growth of broadleaf plants, espcially when applied as a post-emergent. At lower rates, the compounds of the invention are effective in regulating the growth of corn plants.
Abstract: A continuous, automatic system for sealing containers in which the handle of said container is used to orient the container on a conveyor for easy identification of the container spout.
Abstract: Carbonylaldiminomethanephosphonates are produced by the reaction of glyoxal or glyoxylic acid esters with aminomethylphosphonic acid esters. The carbonylaldiminomethanephosphonates can then be reduced and hydrolyzed or reduced and oxidized to yield N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine which is useful as a post-emergent herbicide.
