  • Patent number: 3942423
Abstract: A device for aging wine or the like comprises an elongated wooden rod having opposite ends and at least one longitudinal bore extending from one end toward the other. Sealant means is provided for sealing the exterior surface of the rod adjacent the one end. The rod is made from heartwood of white oak of a type which produces tyloses in the heartwood. Examples of suitable white oak are quercus alba and quercus bicolor.

  • Patent number: 3941014
Abstract: A precision heavy duty indexer characterized in that the indexing member is hydraulically actuated to a locking position whereat it is locked to the indexer housing in desired precise indexed position without circumferential or radial play and without transmission of torque load to the indexer drive means or without transmission of radial load to the indexing member-housing bearings; and is hydraulically actuated to unlocking position whereat it is released from said housing for indexing movement and whereat it is engaged by said drive means operative to index the indexing member to the next indexed position. The indexer herein is further characterized in that the indexer drive means comprises a hydraulic motor driven worm which meshes with a worm wheel having driving engagement with said indexing member, said worm having a sensor-counter thereon to de-energize said hydraulic motor when the indexing member has been indexed through a predetermined angle from one indexed position to the next.

  • Patent number: 3941513
Abstract: A variable displacement pump control assembly as for an axial piston pump having a swash plate actuating piston characterized in that the control assembly is embodied in the pump housing to provide a pressure compensated pump, or to provide a pressure compensated pump having an auxiliary modulator to control the pressure applied to the swash plate actuating piston to maintain a predetermined pressure drop across a variable area metering orifice embodied as in a directional control valve for a fluid motor, or to provide a pressure compensated pump having a horsepower modulator with or without the auxiliary modulator, said horsepower modulator providing desired control of horsepower in relation to pump delivery pressure and displacement.

  • Patent number: 3941549
Abstract: A reciprocating screw injection molding machine characterized in that the screw is actuated by coaxial hydraulic rotary and linear motors, and in that a movable mold supporting platen has a clamping piston thereon which is reciprocable in a clamping cylinder, the latter having mounted thereon platen and valve actuating cylinders which are operatively secured to the clamping piston and to a valve member respectively to effect movement of the clamping piston and movable mold supporting platen toward and away from a fixed mold supporting platen and to open the valve member for flow of oil from a prefill tank into the clamping cylinder chamber and vice versa, said valve actuating cylinder further being operative upon closing of the mold to close the valve and to admit fluid under pressure into the clamping cylinder chamber to pressurize the trapped fluid therein to lock the clamping piston and movable mold supporting platen in mold closing position with required tonnage for injection of plasticized material into

  • Patent number: 3939316
Abstract: A panic stoplight system for automobiles includes a fluid pressure switching device connected through a flasher with signal lights for operation by the automobile braking system. The fluid pressure switching device closes for flashing the signal lights only when the force applied to the actuator of the braking system is representative of panic braking. Time delay means keeps the system energized for a predetermined time after panic braking ceases.

  • Patent number: 3936188
Abstract: Methods of isolating quartz, quartzite, glass or silicate materials having selected aluminum contents are described. The non-destructive method comprises subjecting the materials to ionizing irradiation for a period of time and at an intensity (preferably uniform) sufficient to develop the several distinctive color centers of the materials containing aluminum ions. According to the ions associated with the aluminum ions, the depth of color of each of the various tints developed corresponds to the amount of aluminum in said crystals. The colored crystals which correspond in tint and depth of color to the aluminum contents outside the desired content range can be separated. In this manner, aluminum free quartz, quartzite, glass or silicate materials can be isolated if present in a mixture, or fractions of such materials can be selected, each containing a uniform and known aluminum content.

  • Patent number: 3934888
Abstract: An oil seal having an annular sealing surface and having, on one tapered side of the sealing surface, circumferential series of oppositely inclined V-shaped ribs which converge toward the sealing surface, the ribs being truncated adjacent the sealing surface to a diameter which is equal to or only slightly greater than the diameter of the sealing surface. The edges of the truncated portions of the ribs, when in contact around a rotating shaft, define with the shaft and with the sealing surface, a series of oppositely disposed wedge shaped spaces which pump oil leaking past the sealing surface back toward the oil side of the sealing surface regardless of the direction of rotation of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 3934811
Abstract: A gas smooth top range in which the burner beneath the glass ceramic top is of powered blue flame, rather than radiant, type. The burner in this and other possible environments is controlled by electric circuit means including a resistance igniter element having an appreciable energy output, electrically operated valve means in circuit with the igniter, and cycle control means for cyclically energizing the igniter and valve means at a rate that can be varied to regulate the heat output of the burner. Heat transfer structure is associated with the burner and arranged so that hot exhaust gases from the burner are effective to preheat the respective inflows of ambient air and fuel making up the mixture which is combusted.

  • Patent number: 3930707
Abstract: A connector for supporting a printed circuit board in electrical and mechanical connection to the wrapping posts or pins of a wire wrap panel without interference to wrapped wire connections at the pins includes a housing, electrical contacts arranged in opposed pairs within the housing for movement between cocked position for receiving the pins and locked position for locking engagement biting into the pins, and means for retaining the printed circuit board in the housing. The contacts are moved to locked position by inserting the leading edge of the printed circuit board into engagement therewith, and each contact provides a connection between an electrical circuit on the printed circuit board and a respective pin.
