  • Patent number: 6514506
Abstract: The present invention relates to topical whitening compositions comprising a whitening effective amount of an Ascomycete-derived melanin-degrading enzyme extract and methods of preparing the composition. The compositions provide a whitening effect which occurs by degrading melanin in the skin, yet the compositions themselves do not turn dark in color. The enzyme extract can be derived from Aspergillus fumigatus or from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and is added to the compositions of the present invention. The compositions containing the enzyme extract are twice as effective as kojic acid in producing a whitening effect on the skin.

  • Patent number: 6511672
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of preventing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration on the skin. This is achieved by the topical application to the skin of a composition containing a first platelet of alumina treated with a metal oxide, a second platelet treated with a spherical scattering component, and a cosmetic or pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions can also contain a standard interference pigment, such as a white and a yellow interference pigment to further blend the color to closely match the natural skin tone. The combination of pigments and platelets creates a mosaic of color and optically manipulates light such that lines, wrinkles, disfigurations and discolorations on the skin appear to substantially vanish. In addition to the pigments and platelet components, a non-interference pigment can also be added to fine-tune the matching of color to the skin tone.

  • Patent number: 6497861
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gelled cosmetic emulsion comprising an oil phase, an aqueous phase and a gelling system which contains at least one non-siloxane based polyamide in a sufficient amount to gel the emulsion. The polyamide can have an ester, acid, or amine terminal end group. The emulsion is stabilized with an alkylene oxide containing emulsion stabilizer. The emulsions of the present invention are substantially transparent and when colorants are added the color is especially bright and clear. The emulsions are used in lipstick and mascara products as well as other gel and stick products.

  • Patent number: 6451328
Abstract: The invention relates to structured water and its antioxidant activity. In addition, the present invention relates to antioxidants incorporated within the cluster structure of either electropositive (S water) or electronegative (I water). The structured water, having the antioxidant within its cluster structure, has a stabilizing effect on the antioxidant. In addition, the antioxidant activity inherent to structured water is enhanced by the presence of the antioxidant within its cluster structure. The present invention also includes methods of removing or reducing free radicals on the skin and thereby preventing the signs of skin aging and the risks of cancer associated with the presence of free radicals in the skin.
