  • Patent number: 5455381
Abstract: An intonation adjustment system is provided for a stringed instrument. A saddle setup tool has a plurality of selectable, distinctly spaced intonation points so that a preferred one of the selectable, distinctly spaced intonation points can be determined for each string of the instrument. Then a bridge saddle is constructed from a set of prefabricated candidate saddle segments by selecting a group of selected saddle segments making up the instrument saddle and providing the desired combination of intonation points as determined with the saddle setup tool. A pickup for an amplified instrument provides adjustable positioning of individual piezo-electric transducer elements so that relative volume outputs of the strings may also be adjusted.

Abstract: A process for extracting iron, copper, and nickel from a solution containing iron, copper, nickel, and at least one contaminent selected from the group comprising magnesium, aluminum, calcium and sodium, wherein each of said solutes is present at its respective chloride. In the process, calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide are added as a precipitating agent in incremental steps to cause incremental increases in the pH of the solution. At each increasing pH, one of the aforesaid metals will precipitate as the corresponding metal hydroxide while leaving the remaining metals in solution. • Patent number: 5438158
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a pickup on a stringed musical instrument having a soundhole has a pickup housing which is adapted to be disposed in the soundhole of the instrument. An abutment member is connected by a threaded rod and an operator member to the pickup housing. The operator member is mounted on the rod and the abutment member so that operation of the operator member moves the abutment member along the rod into abutting engagement with the instrument when the pickup housing is disposed in the soundhole and the operator member is operated. This can form part of an electromagnetic pickup which defines a first magnetic pole beneath a first plurality of the strings of the instrument and which also defines a second magnetic pole beneath a second plurality of the strings of the instrument, wherein the second plurality is less than the first plurality.

  • Patent number: 5431094
Abstract: A nut dehulling apparatus for more effectively removing the green hull or shuck from pecans includes a housing having a housing inlet and a housing outlet. A rotatable scrubbing means and an endless conveyor belt are disposed in the housing. Further included is a means for rotating the scrubbing means and means for moving the endless conveyor belt. The endless conveyor belt includes a nut contact portion which, along with the rotatable scrubbing means, defines a nut passageway wherein the scrubbing means engage pecans. The nut passageway circumscribes approximately one-half the scrubbing means. The endless conveyor belt is located in the housing such that nuts deposited in the inlet are carried by the conveyor belt through the nut passageway into engagement with the scrubbing means. • Patent number: 5422550
Abstract: A control system and method for a plurality of motors utilize one, and only one, motor drive unit that provides power to drive any one of the motors. The system and method also utilize a controller that controls which of the motors to energize. Power from the motor drive unit can be communicated to one of the motors selected by the controller, or power from a primary power source can be communicated to one or more of the motors selected by the controller. Sequencing of the motors to and from the motor drive unit and the primary power source, and between the two, is automatically controlled, such as based on how long each of the motors has been used. Accordingly, a method of controlling a plurality of motors comprises: defining a motor utilization criterion; sensing a parameter affected by the number of the motors that are operating; and sequentially starting and cumulatively operating ones of the motors selected in response to the motor utilization criterion and the sensed parameter.
