  • Patent number: 5256212
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for cutting an elongate workpiece. A conveyor is provided for supporting the workpiece lengthwise along an X-axis in a mutually orthogonal X, Y, and Z-axis coordinate system. An X-axis positioner is provided for moving the workpiece along the X-axis on the support conveyor. A torch is mounted on a guide ring with the flame in an orientation to impinge upon the workpiece along the cutting path. The torch revolves on, or with, the guide ring at least partially around the workpiece to position the torch in a selected orientation. The guide ring is also movable along the Z-axis and along the Y-axis by means of linear positioning tables.

  • Patent number: 5255780
Abstract: Carrier stock formed from a single sheet of resilient polymeric material, such as low density polyethylene, for machine application to substantially identical containers. The stock is severable to form individual carriers with three longitudinal rows of container-receiving apertures, as defined by integrally joined band segments, which include generally longitudinal outer band segments and generally diagonal inner band segments. One of the band segments defining each container-receiving aperture has a tear-open tab. The band segments having tear-open tabs include a specified subgroup of the diagonal inner segments and either the longitudinal outer segments, in a first embodiment, or an additional subgroup of the diagonal inner segments, in a second embodiment. Each band segment having a tear-open tab has slits to facilitate tearing of such band segment when the tear-open tab is pulled.

  • Patent number: 5255930
Abstract: A shopping cart comprises a wheeled chassis, a handle structure including two handle uprights, and a plastic basket comprising separate side, front, and bottom panel members molded from a suitable plastic and assembled without any need for an interior frame. The side and front panel members have tabs. The front and bottom panel members have slots. The tabs are received by the slots to assemble the panel members. A rim wire has side portions received by wire-receiving formations of near top edge portions of the side panel members and a bight portion bearing against a top edge portion of the front panel member. The side portions are bent to form prongs inserted into apertures in the handle uprights to position the basket before the basket is fastened to the handle uprights and to the wheeled chassis.

  • Patent number: 5253560
Abstract: A sheet dispenser for dispensing thin film such as collagen film for wrapping food. The dispenser consists of a cabinet in which a row of collagen film is supported on rollers and the film is pulled off the roll by driven rollers. When a predetermined length has been pulled off the roll it is severed by a hot wire system in which the hot wire is located between rollers and supported in a tension head controlled by spring. A cutter bar supported on pivoted arms moves across so as to press the film against the hot wire during the cutting action.

  • Patent number: 5254240
Abstract: A tri-elemental catalyst suitable for hydrocracking and hydrogenation of aromatics-containing petroleum hydrocarbon feedstocks such as hydrotreated cracked feedstock, virgin feedstock, vacuum distillate, middle distillate, mixtures thereof, and the like, is disclosed. The catalyst is suitable for hydrodesulfurization as well as hydrodenitrogenation, thus the feedstock can contain sulfur and nitrogen in addition to the aromatic components. Hydrocracking and aromatics hydrogenation of the petroleum hydrocarbon feedstocks is accomplished under a relatively wide range of process conditions using the tri-elemental catalyst that contains a catalytically active metal phase constituted by a Group VI-B element, a Group VIII first transition series element and a Group VIII second transition series element, all supported on a titania-alumina support containing about 5% to about 30% by weight titania in the support.

  • Patent number: 5254877
Abstract: One or more supplemental, pulsed energy sources can be used in combination with a pulsed, primary energy source which provides energy to a plurality of spaced apart loads. The loads are coupled to the pulsed, primary source by a pair of conductors. Each supplemental energy source includes circuitry for repetitively storing a predetermined quantity of supplemental energy and circuitry for detecting a start of a primary energy pulse and in response thereto, for discharging the restored supplemental energy into the conductors. Between primary energy pulses, the supplemental energy quantity is automatically restored.

  • Patent number: 5250159
Abstract: A method and bipolar membrane stack for the generation of acid and alkali metal base solutions from an impure salt by electrodialysis. The unit cells of the stack comprise a novel arrangement of cation-selective membranes and an anion selective membrane with relation to a bipolar membrane forming four liquid flow channels. One of the cation-selective membranes is monocation-selective, passing monovalent cations while blocking the passage of multivalent cations. The method is operable continuously using untreated raw material brines contaminated with multivalent cation salts to generate substantially pure alkali metal base solutions.

  • Patent number: 5249930
Abstract: A novel sump pump strainer assembly consisting of a basket having elongated circumferentially spaced openings disposed in a sump pit and having a sump pump located thereon. The basket is provided with a screen around its lower portion to prevent the introduction of debris into the basket that could clog the inlet of the pump. A shield on the basket is located opposite any inlet into the sump pit above the screen to prevent debris from entering the basket above the screened portion. In another embodiment, the pump is disposed on a specially designed platform that assists in directing debris away from the inlet of the pump. This platform can include a strainer attached thereto if desired.

A protective cap is detachably secured on the upper side of the liquid receptacle. Secured swivelably in the protective cap is a pump-actuated lever. The actuating lever extends from its swiveling spindle in the protective cap to beyond the dispensing head of the pump. The free lever end is angled in the direction of the receptacle lid. The protective cap is provided in the region of the free lever end with an opening into which the actuating lever at least projects. At the top, the dispensing head is connected with the actuating lever in such a way that it is non-rotatable but axially movable; its outlet opening is in alignment with a passage opening in the protective cap. The package is easy to handle and space-saving.
