  • Patent number: 5255452
Abstract: A system for allowing a shoe wearer to lean forwardly beyond his center of gravity by virtue of wearing a specially designed pair of shoes which will engage with a hitch member movably projectable through a stage surface. The shoes have a specially designed heel slot which can be detachably engaged with the hitch member by simply sliding the shoe wearer's foot forward, thereby engaging with the hitch member.

  • Patent number: 5149368
Abstract: This invention provides a calcium phosphate cement with relatively high surface pH which is very beneficial from the biocompatibility point of view. When calcium phosphate salts react with an acidic reagent to form cement, it normally involves the dissolution and recrystallization process. The acidity of the setting cements depends strongly on the nature of the calcium phosphate salt used, the acidity of the setting reagent, and the reaction rate. The present invention uses high alkaline calcium phosphate ceramics such as tetracalcium phosphate alone or together with calcium phosphate ceramics such as .alpha.-tricalcium phosphate as base cementing powder to increase the surface pH of the setting cement.

  • Patent number: 5133758
Abstract: The invention is a total knee endoprosthesis with a fixed flexion-extension xis throughout all degrees of flexion and extension of the knee. The endoprosthesis has a femoral component with spaced apart medial and lateral condyle portions which slidably seat on a tibial implant portion. The fixed flexion-extension axis is directed inferiorly and posteriorly from the medial condyle portion to the lateral condyle portion and is offset from both the transverse and coronal planes equally by 3.0 to 3.8 degrees. A longitudinal axis through the tibia allows the tibia to rotate nonorthogonally and anteriorly of the flexion-extension axis. A patellar groove which is perpendicular to the flexion-extension axis. In the patellar groove slides an optional patellar component or the natural patella.

  • Patent number: 5133665
Abstract: A book that can be customized to teach letters, numbers, a series of letters, for example, a word such as a child's name and the like. The front cover has a window or opening through which can be seen the letters. The series of letters is formed by cutting each page short enough than the page beneath it such that letters on the right edge form the series.

  • Patent number: 5132232
Abstract: Method and apparatus for collecting liquid analytical samples for examination, particularly whole urine and blood samples, and reproducibly separating them into two or more fractions. A sample is disposed within such an apparatus, then staining with dye or reacting with reagent as necessary without dislodging or disturbing the sample within the apparatus, or the arrangement of the apparatus itself. A sample can be transferred from the apparatus which serves as a preparation zone, to a separate analysis zone. An apparatus is shown of a type utilizing a container and a petter, said petter provided with an upper portion which enables attachment to the container, a lower retainer portion including a peripheral aperture, the non-apertured portion of which enables wedge-fit thereof into the container, and a body portion connecting the upper petter portion and lower retainer portion.

  • Patent number: 5089422
Abstract: An apparatus and method for in vitro bleeding time determination. Blood is placed in a tube having a window covered with a clot promoting material having a slit. The time required before blood stops flowing through the slit is recorded, and is the bleeding time. It is preferred that the clot-promoting material be nylon fabric impregnated with collagen and blood clot promoting proteins.

  • Patent number: 5084241
Abstract: The disclosure teaches a pipette or petter tube and a system using the pipette to obtain reproducible liquid samples of known small volume. The pipette has an elongate body with one end adapted to be removably engaged by an aspiration device and the other end which is closed is adapted to contact a surface. The body has a spherical portion proximate the closed end. At least one aperture penetrates the wall of the spherical portion. When the petter tube is used in conjunction with a hollow tube having a known volume and of such size that the closed end of the pipette contacts the bottom of the tube a quantity of liquid can be aspirated from the tube leaving only a small predetermined volume behind.

  • Patent number: 5036569
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically assembling immunotesting filter funnels. At a first station, a slotted indexing carousel receives correctly oriented funnel retaining rings. At a second station a disk of filter material is placed in the retaining ring. At a third station a funnel body is placed in the retaining ring. At a fourth station, the funnel body is forced into the retaining ring forming a completed funnel. At a fifth station the completed funnels are removed.

  • Patent number: 4991665
Abstract: A flexible circuit conductor run for connecting circuit elements comprises a thin sheet which includes a plurality of pairs of generally parallel spaced-apart thin conductors. Each conductor in each pair of conductors includes alternating lengths of crossing portions and extending portions. Each length of conductor extending portions includes generally sidewardly-projecting tine portions.Such flexible circuit conductor run enables the characteristic impedance thereof at high power and operating frequencies to be substantially matched with the characteristic impedance of the circuit elements at such power and operating frequencies, to enable effective signal transfer and reduced signal loss between the circuit elements through the flexible circuit conductor run.
