  • Patent number: 4754945
Abstract: The invention relates to a means for the compact stowing of a folded support, e.g. for books and the like, when not in use, and to the unfolding thereof, to provide a rigid support in any one of a number of possible positions, from the compact stowed position.More particularly, the invention provides a four-way movement of a book support means from an initial compact stowed position wherein the support means and its associated mechanisms all lie essentially in a single plane, to a position wherein the support means can be adjusted four ways: (1) rotationally and (2) vertically about a given horizontal axis, (3) laterally with respect to a given vertical axis, and (4) rotationally with respect to that given vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 4744119
Abstract: A production method for a two-piece capped lug nut which consists of a nut and cap which is attached to the top. The top of the nut has a grooved, serrated or roughened surface and a protrusion for positioning. When the cap is positioned on the nut, the cap is correctly centered by the protrusion and at the same time, the flange portion of the cap is positioned over the grooved, serrated or roughened surface. Then the nut and the cap are welded under pressure together by running electrical current through them.

  • Patent number: 4731525
Abstract: A modular microprocessor-based code printing and reading system, adapted to print a personal coded identifier and other codes relating to categories of school-attendance recordkeeping on a form, and to read the codes from the form to generate data for processing thereof. The system is particularly adapted for use in the school-attendance recordkeeping process, with the codes including a bar code, representing an identifier assigned to the person so identified. The system includes a laser printer, micropocessor-based, operable in response to a laser control program, for printing the codes associated with the particular person at the appropriate location on the form. The system further includes a portable compact reader, microprocessor-based, which includes a wand adapted to sense the bar code on the form. The reader is operable in response to control by the operator, and to a reader control program, for reading the bar code, to generate data relating to the person identified thereby for processing thereof.

  • Patent number: 4723435
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the controlled simulation of respiratory gas exchange as it takes place in mammals, for the primary purpose of calibrating and checking the performance of laboratory and clinical test equipment systems. The method and apparatus can reproduce any range of respiratory performance by pumping and mixing atmospheric air with a gas mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. This invention provides an accurate, economical and rapid apparatus for on-line calibration of analytical respiratory test systems.

  • Patent number: 4719652
Abstract: The invention is directed to a novel form of recessed cavity and cover therefor, for use with bathtubs and the like, especially whirlpool baths, and in particular, for use as an overflow recessing device or means. In the prior art, overflow devices have projected from the bathtub wall. Such overflow devices thus present an obstruction and danger to a bathtub user. The invention herein recesses the overflow device behind the plane of the bathtub wall, and the recess is provided with a complementary cover so that the recess in the wall, in effect, can be made flush with the wall of the tub. The recess cover is pivotally connected to the bathtub recess opening. The covered recess is provided with a secondary drain means so that any water entering the covered recess will readily drain therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4718570
Abstract: A dispenser for pasty compositions, especially facing material in dental technology and the like, formed as a circular box (10) being closed by a cover (30) and having a bottom (17) and a wall (16). In the peripheral area of the box cavity there is arranged a packing member (11), closing an opening (32) formed in the cover (30) when the cover (30) is in closing position. The cover (30), being guided in an endless grove (36), can be turned on the box (10). Such a dispenser can be opened and closed with one hand while the other hand handles an instrument.

  • Patent number: 4688281
Abstract: A readily set-up and knocked-down portable bed assembly for animals or persons includes flexible sheeting for supporting such animal or person and a frame assembly which includes a plurality of interengageable short side members, connectable to the flexible sheeting so as to brace and support the flexible sheeting. Each frame side member includes opposite end portions interengageable with opposed complementary end portions of adjacently - positionable frame side members. For ready set up, the frame side members are adapted such that by linking of all but one pair of opposed frame side members end portions, the last non-linked opposed end portions of adjacently positioned frame side members overlap in the planar position, and are readily connectable by moving the non-linked end portions to a position skewed from the planar position of the otherwise partially assembled structure, in which position the flexible sheeting is bowed.

  • Patent number: 4686717
Abstract: A device for extending and retracting a pool cover, for covering and uncovering a pool. A mechanism for coupling and uncoupling cover driving and driven sections includes a floppy clutch mechanism including a floppy clutch arm, pivotally mounted and operable so as to rotate, pivot, and drop into and out of engagement responsive to rotational and gravitational forces, so as to provide positive coupling and uncoupling for cover operation. The cover driving section includes a cable reel which includes a pair of adjacent sections, to each of which one end of a cable is connected, with the opposite end of such cable connected to the cover leading edge, for enabling efficient extension of the pool cover. A pair of tracks are mounted directly in the sides of the pool, through which tracks the sides of the pool cover extend, and a pair of sliders are directly connected and secured to the cover leading edge, to provide support and guidance for the cover during extension and retraction thereof.

  • Patent number: 4676894
Abstract: It has been found that by mounting a suction cover onto the periphery only of a suction interconnection member placed between the suction cover and the recirculating piping, and by carefully placing the hole pattern and size of the individual holes thereon, that a substantial increase in the allowable flow rate gpm for a given safe suction of below five pounds will be produced, as required by the IAPMO standards. Furthermore, it has been found that the suction cover should provide as clear and unobstructed a path to flow, to the internal bore of the suction interconnect member, as possible, and, to this end, the suction cover itself is completely free of any internal flow obstructions, as is the flow path to the internal bore of the suction interconnect.

  • Patent number: 4672724
Abstract: A simplified springless fastener includes a housing or box element onto which a first fastener element, having a clasp, is welded. The first fastener element has a hook-like extension extending into the housing. Insertable within the housing element is a resilient tang, having a second fastener element, which will engage, in locking fashion, the hook extension of the first fastener element located within the rectangular housing. The fastener elements may be unfastened simply by depressing one leg of the resilient tang. Thus structure is simple and economical to produce.

  • Patent number: 4666120
Abstract: An apparatus for pivotally connecting a binder to a support surface, to enable the binder to be moved between stored and accessed positions relative to the support surface. The apparatus is adapted to protect a book enclosed in the binder in stored position. The apparatus includes a link, secured to the support surface, and a yoke, pivotally interconnected between the binder and link. The yoke is adapted to press hingedly-mounted opposed covers of the binder together, upon movement to the stored position, so as to firmly enclose the book mounted in the binder, to effectively protect such book from damage thereto when so stored. The yoke is further adapted to enable pivoted movement of the binder, limited to prevent overtravel, for efficient access to the book mounted in the binder.
