  • Patent number: 6260850
Abstract: Internal and external metal-to-metal radially interfering seals are provided for an annular chamber. Typically, an annular chamber is used in tubular goods to be part of the hydraulic control circuitry, such as for operating subsurface equipment such as a subsurface safety valve. Resilient seals are eliminated and sealing reliability is enhanced by a design which features metal-to-metal seals internally and externally, preferably assembled by an external two-step thread. The radial interference seal, which is internally disposed, is constructed so as to be incapable of experiencing tensile loads. This reinforces joint integrity by minimizing stresses on thin components.

  • Patent number: 6263145
Abstract: An end cap for a telecommunications enclosure has a perimeter. The end cap has a plurality of cable receptacle tubes arranged around its perimeter. Each of the cable receptacle tubes has a plug at an end of the tube opposite the end cap. Each tube has a respective height. A first one of the tubes has the greatest height. Successive cable receptacle tubes on each side of the first tube decrease in height monotonically from the height of the first tube. The difference in height between two consecutive tubes is greater than or equal to a thickness of a blade used to cut the plug off of the tubes. The space between consecutive cable receptacle tubes is substantially less than a width of a blade used to cut the plug off of the tubes. The end cap may have a plane of symmetry passing through the highest cable receptacle tube. To use the end cap, the plug is cut off of the first (highest) cable receptacle tube. A cable is secured to the first tube.

  • Patent number: 6257001
Abstract: An assembly includes a temperature sensor having an operating range that includes a normal operating temperature of a cryogenic vacuum pump and a temperature of the pump following a dump. The assembly may be included in a semiconductor processing apparatus for performing an implant operation on a wafer. The apparatus includes: a chamber containing a wafer; an ion source that provides ions to be implanted in the wafer; a cryogenic vacuum pump that maintains a vacuum in the chamber; and a temperature sensor having an operating range that includes a normal operating temperature of the pump and a temperature of the pump following a dump. A circular mounting bracket may be used to mount the temperature sensor on an exterior surface of the pump. An alarm may be activated when the sensed temperature indicates that a dump condition exists. An inert gas, such as nitrogen, may be introduced into the semiconductor wafer processing apparatus when the sensed temperature indicates that a dump condition exists.

  • Patent number: 6259024
Abstract: An end cap for a telecommunications enclosure has a plurality of cable receptacle tubes and a pair of pivotally mounted legs. The legs are mounted on an outside surface of the end cap. The legs are pivotable to positions in which they prevent the end cap from rolling. The legs can be pivoted to a position in which the legs fit within the perimeter of the end cap. Each leg may be shaped substantially as an arc of a circle, in which case the legs can be pivoted to a position where the legs fit in an annular region between the plurality of cable receptacle tubes and an outer edge of the end cap. Each leg includes a detente mechanism to maintain the leg in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 6259439
Abstract: In the system of the present invention an individual displayed pixel is a weighted combination of a video pixel and a graphics pixel. For example, a pixel displayed on a monitor may be three-quarters graphics and one-quarter video. In this system a color lookup table providing a red, a green and a blue lookup table output value is extended to provide a further lookup table output value. The further lookup table output value is a weight value representative of the relative weights of a video pixel and a corresponding graphics pixel. The weight value is applied to a matrix multiplier which also receives video pixel information and graphics pixel information. The matrix multiplier determines a weighted combination of the video and graphics pixel information according to the weight value to provide a blended pixel. A YUV standard to RGB standard conversion matrix is provided within in order to receive video signals in a YUV format and apply the video signals to the matrix multiplier in an RGB format.

  • Patent number: 6254817
Abstract: A composite fabric for use in reinforcement, particularly tensile reinforcement, of cementitious boards and similar prefabricated building wall panels. The fabric is constructed as a mesh of continuously coated, high modulus of elasticity strands. The high modulus strands are preferably bundled glass fibers encapsulated by alkali and water resistant thermoplastic material. The composite fabric also has suitable physical characteristics for embedment within the cement matrix of the panels or boards closely adjacent the opposed faces thereof. The fabric provides long-lasting, high strength tensile reinforcement of the panels or boards regardless of their spatial orientation during handling. The reinforcement also enhances the impact resistance of the boards after installation. Included as part of the invention are methods for making the reinforcement, cementitious boards and panels including the reinforcement, and methods for manufacturing such boards and panels.

  • Patent number: 6254418
Abstract: The invention provides a latch release for engaging an operative portion of a latching mechanism of a connector to switch the latching mechanism between a latched position and an unlatched position. In one embodiment, a latch release is provided comprising a housing that is cooperatively associated with the connector so as to be positioned adjacent to the operative portion of the latching mechanism. A beam is pivotably supported by the housing and comprises a front end positioned adjacent to the operative portion of the latching mechanism and a rear end that is spaced from the operative portion of the latching mechanism. In this way, when the rear end of the beam is moved, the beam pivots so that the front end operatively engages the operative portion of the latching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6250367
Abstract: A metal material is placed in a crucible 4. An inverter 16 outputs a voltage amplitude-modulated with a low frequency signal. The output voltage is used to RF induction heat the crucible. A photodiode 30 receives light emitted by the metal material in the crucible and develops a received-light-representative signal. A high-pass filter 34 extracts, from the received-light-representative signal, a frequency component having a frequency above the frequency of the low frequency signal. A comparator 40 develops an output signal when the output signal of the high-pass filter exceeds a reference signal provided from a peak sample-and-hold circuit 42 to which the output signal of the high-pass filter is applied as an input thereto.

  • Patent number: 6248547
Abstract: A cocktail reagent preparation for the rapid production of serum contains thrombin, snake venom, and protamine sulfate. The preparation employs very small quantities of clot promoting substances which behave in a synergistic manner such that rapid clotting of highly heparinized blood is achieved without altering the chemical analysis of the blood enzymes, proteins, sugars, or electrolytes. Thus, clinicians who rely upon the results of such tests can more closely monitor organ and tissue function and adjust patient therapies accordingly.
