Abstract: This invention relates to a parlor game for simulating the sport of golf. The game includes an elongated handle for being grasped and swung by the player. A flexible line is frictionally coupled through an aperture in the handle for providing a centrifugal force indication representative of a forward distance as the player swings the handle. A direction indicator is provided for being struck by the handle, or the player's hands coupled thereto, during the swing for providing a direction indication. A game board is provided which represents a golf course including a tee-off point and a hole point. Markers are provided for representing the position of each player as the hole is played. A converter adapts the indication from the forward distance and the forward direction indicators to provide a distance vector for directing the movement of the markers generally according to the rules of the game of golf.

Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a breaker belt interposed between the tread and the tire carcass, the belt including opposing elastic layers with a sheet interposed between the layers, the sheet having a plurality of perforations therein and comprising a material having a relatively high modulus of elasticity with respect to the layers.

Abstract: A latch release device operated by a mechanical impulse and constructed so as to sequentially release a plurality of latches in response to a corresponding plurality of mechanical forces. Operation of the latch release device is accomplished by a single operating arm and a single trigger bar in combination with a plurality of sears corresponding to the plurality of latches provided. The device is particularly useful for releasing individual loads at a remote location in response to individual mechanical forces such as may be provided by a messenger weight.

Abstract: Disclosed is a bipolar transistor comprising a semiconductor body having first and second opposed surfaces with opposing edge surfaces and emitter, base and collector regions in the body with an emitter-base junction between the emitter and base regions and a base-collector junction between the base and collector regions. The emitter-base junction extends across the semiconductor body and terminates at the edge surfaces such that injection across the emitter-base junction is substantially uniform across the semiconductor body. In one arrangement, two collector regions are provided, one of which is coupled to the base contact in order to control the gain of the transistor.

Abstract: Unique powdered hydrated emulsifiers, or surfactants, for use in the food and cosmetic industries comprising, by weight, 85-98% emulsifier and 2-15% water. Virtually all of the common emulsifiers capable of hydrogen bonding are suitable for use in preparing the powdered hydrated emulsifier compositions of the present invention. The invention further comprises a method for preparing the powdered hydrated emulsifiers basically comprising a mixing and spray-chilling operation.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine cam removing tool for holding rocker arms off the cam during removal of the cam. The tool includes cylinder head support and tool attaching brackets connected through the bores for bolting the cylinder head to the engine to lock the tool to the cylinder head. The tool has a plurality of rocker arm holding members attached to a frame for pushing and holding each rocker arm against the bias of the valve spring while the cam is being removed by a mechanic, thus simplifying the handling of the cylinder head and the removal of the cam.

Abstract: A fishing reel apparatus having a line spool and spool shaft mounted on a casing and having one or more bearings supporting the spool to the casing. Improvements in the bearings and spool brake include a bearing having a polymer bushing encased in metal except for a small protruding portion which sets against a ledge on the spool shaft and a brake member made of a solid lubricant polymer and working with the bearing to vary the tension on the line spool.

Abstract: A drawer for preventing the entry of insects thereinto is mounted to slide in a frame and has grooves in the sides and front of the drawer. A cover is fixedly mounted in the frame and the drawer grooves slide on the edge of the cover. The cover engages the groove in the front of the drawer when the drawer is closed while the back of the drawer is sealed by the cover overlapping the back side, so that the drawer is sealed against the entry of insects when closed.

Abstract: A fishing lure apparatus for plug or spin casting has an elongated body having a swivel shank on the front for attaching a fishing line and a spring clasp on the rear for attaching interchangeable tail portions. The elongated body has a hollowed-out belly having a slidable mass therein which in one position maintains the lure with air entrapped in the hollowed-out portion, so that the lure floats on the surface and in a second position, tilts the lure to let the air escape so that the lure dives. An adjustable wobble plate or lip helps control the depth of the dive and the wobble of the lure. A sliding belly cover to cover a portion of the opening to the hollow belly portion may be used to provide additional weight and better air entrapment.

Abstract: A support for automotive starter motors of the type having a shaft rotated by the motor, in which the starter motor includes a gear mounted on the shaft for engaging the flywheel of an aircraft engine or the like, in which the support comprises a first plate for mounting adjacent the flywheel and a second plate normal to the first plate, the second plate having a hole therein. The starter motor is bolted to the second plate with the shaft extending through the hole. A conical housing is carried by the second plate and has a hole at the apex thereof, rotatably supporting the extremity of the starter motor shaft, the housing further including an opening along one side thereof for permitting access of the gear to the flywheel.

Abstract: Apparatus for mounting awning panels adjacent the roof fascia, having an overlapping roof drip edge includes a header having a first plate adapted to be mounted flush with the fascia and having a flange extending underneath the drip edge. The header is provided with a channel along the upper edge thereof, with a flap having a flange along an edge thereof, the flange of the flap engaging the header in the channel. The other edge of the flap is fastened to the field of the awning panel, and a strip of sealing material is disposed along the interface between the flap and the channel.

Abstract: A variable density polarizing attachment for shields combined with spectacles having polarizing lenses is provided along with a method of making variable density shields. A polarizing rotary disc is attached to standard shield adding optionally: polarized eye-protection and/or variable density shading with standard polarized lens' spectacles. The rotary disc is mounted on the inside of the shield and adjacent to standard polarizing spectacles' lenses. By rotating the disc the combination converts the sheidl to variable density. The set of snaps utilized to mount the rotary disc is modified to allow some air inside the shield, and/or to gyrate the disc.

Abstract: An improved rotary head sprinkler having a self-contained tool attached thereto for facilitating the assembly or the disassembly of a similar rotary head sprinkler. In a first embodiment of the invention a wrench or tool is attached to a sprinkler for coupling with a portion of a spindle cavity for enabling a rotary force to be exerted on the spindle coaxial with the longitudinal axis thereof, whereby the first end of the spindle may be coupled or decoupled from the sprinkler body. The wrench may also be used for coupling with other removable portions of another rotary sprinkler head. The wrench is attached adjacent a distended end of an impulse arm of the sprinkler head for increasing the oscillating period thereof.

Abstract: A test probe for electronic circuit testing includes a probe arm joined to a printed circuit board adjacent to an electronic circuit to be tested, said probe arm having a flexible neck portion at one end. An electrically conductive tip is attached to the neck portion and has one end adapted to contact a portion of an electronic circuit. The neck portion of the probe arm is provided with a plurality of transverse slots and intermediate slots communicating between the transverse slots, the probe being provided with a flexible insert for extension across a preselected one of transverse slots in order to vary the probe tip pressure of the neck portion in directions substantially normal to the circuit under test.

Abstract: A system for storing and handling used cooking oils and the like comprises a dump station located adjacent to the kitchen facility in a restuarant for receiving and feeding the used cooking oils through a fill pipe into a remotely located, closed storage container. Heating tubes passing through the fill pipe and the storage container maintain the liquidity of the used cooking oil while moving through the fill pipe and while stored in the container. A pump and control unit is co-located with the storage container for monitoring the temperature of the used oil in the container, and for detecting when the container is filled with the oil so as to provide an indication in the restaurant so that a pump may be energized to thereafter evacuate the storage container.

Abstract: A safety blade for a rotary mower along with a rotary mower is provided in which the rotary mower has a blade housing with an annular band mounted for rotation therein. The annular band has teeth encircling the edge and is connected to the drive shaft by supporting cross members. The annular band may extend vertically when attached to a mower, or may be angled inward towards the center; and may have a fixed or removable annular blade portion. The cross support members may have features for removing grass, and the mower housing may have an opening for the ejection of grass from the sides or the top of the housing.

Abstract: A system for shaping pulses of optical radiation includes a birefringent element for receiving a polarized pulse from a source of optical radiation and projecting the pulse into two orthogonally polarized beams. The birefringent element is designed to introduce a phase shift between the two beams during transmission therethrough, such that when the two beams are recombined at the output of the birefringent element, the shape of the pulse is modified with respect to the input pulse.

Abstract: A solar energy collection device includes an oblong pedestal with a heat absorbing hollow cylinder carried upon the pinnacle of the pedestal through which a heat absorbing fluid is moved. A transparent, generally cylindrical member is carried by the pedestal and encircles at least a portion of the cylinder for concentrating and transferring radiant energy incident to the periphery of the member to the heat absorbing cylinder, and thence to the fluid passing therethrough.
