Abstract: A system for characterizing the pressure, temperature, movement and flow patterns of a fluid under high pressure within a test cell. The test cell is lined internally with adjustable rock facings. Pressure is measured within the test cell using a device employing pressure-distortable optical fibers. Fluid velocity, flow direction, and filter-cake buildup are measured with laser Doppler velocimetry. The flow pattern of the fluid is viewed using corresponding arrays of transmitting and receiving optical fibers. Temperature of the fluid is estimated using a combination of thermal sensors. The pressure, velocity, viewing and temperature systems are integral to the rock facings of the test cell.

Abstract: A valve, such as a ball valve, which is turned 90.degree. between a fully open and a fully closed position. A lock-out plate is secured on the valve stem and has at least one lock-out opening positioned to mate with a lock-out opening in either an indexing plate or the valve body, such that the valve may be securely locked in a fully closed position. An indexing plate may also be used to fit on the valve stem and cooperate with flat surfaces on the valve stem for limiting the turning movement of the valve to fully open and fully closed positions.

Abstract: Diphenylcyclopropyl analogs in which one or more of the phenyl rings includes substituents comprising a hydroxy group, a hydrogen atom, an acetate group or a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group. The compounds are useful as antiestrogens and anti-tumor agents.

Abstract: A rotating head having a bowl assembly and a rotating assembly disposed in a bowl opening formed in the bowl assembly. The rotating assembly consists of an elastomeric member having a bearing wall formed thereon bearingly engaging a portion of the bowl assembly for bearingly supporting the elastomeric member in the bowl assembly. The elastomeric member sealingly engages a portion of the bowl assembly for forming a seal between the rotating assembly and the bowl assembly.

Abstract: A method for alleviating and diagnosing syndromes of heart block wherein a stimulus is continuously or intermittently delivered via a single electrode catheter at a site in a heart in close proximity to the A-V junction in the heart. The subthreshold stimuli were sufficient to cause impulses in the atrium to pass through the damaged His bundle to the ventricle and the stimuli were set at a level below a level required to excite the heart tissue. The delivery of the stimuli alleviates the symptoms of heart block. In one application, the delivery of the stimuli is used for diagnosing heart block when delivery of the stimuli induces the symptoms of heart block in the patient with partial or covert conduction disease.

Abstract: A paving machine having a medially located dowel bar feeder positioned in front of a dowel bar inserter. The machine has a screw or paddle for spreading the concrete and a front strike-off to allocate a proper amount of unconsolidated concrete beneath the machine. Next in line, internal vibrators are mounted to the machine to perform a preliminary consolidation of the concrete, followed by a screed to meter out a correct volume of consolidated concrete for a finished concrete slab. To the rear of the screed, the dowel bar feeder drops dowel bars in a predetermined pattern on the top surface of the consolidated concrete. The dowel bar inserter is mounted to the paving machine behind the dowel bar feeder and is adapted to travel between a forward position and a rear position and includes a plurality of vibrating forks which descend to engage the dropped dowel bars and insert the dowels into the unhardened concrete.

Abstract: A spiral conveyor belt adapted to turn on a radius. The spiral conveyor belt comprises a plurality of link assemblies with each of the link assemblies having a plurality of forward link ends and a plurality of rearward link ends. Each link assembly is positioned near one of the other link assemblies with the forward link ends on one of the link assemblies being disposed near the rearward link ends on the other link assembly. A link shaft is disposed through the forward link ends and the rearward link ends of the adjacent link assemblies for interconnecting the link assemblies to form the spiral conveyor belt.

Abstract: Methods for treating siliceous and carbon central structures with a water repellant composition and a paint are provided. An effective amount of water repellant composition is dispersed in paint or in paint and water, and the mixture then is applied in a continuous process after mixing to the object to be treated.

Abstract: A flower pot or flower pot cover comprising a base and a skirt connected to an upper end of the base. The base includes a plurality of overlapping folds for providing structural integrity. The base is divided into a plurality of segments with each segment extending generally between the upper and the lower end of the base and each segment extending a distance circumferentially about the base. The overlapping folds in some of the segments are connected and the overlapping folds in the remaining segments are unconnected to provide an overall pleated appearance.

Abstract: Retaining flaps for shipping cartons, with bonding material disposed on at least a portion of the flaps, are provided. The flaps are interposed between delicate items, such as, for example, floral grouping assemblies, to hold the delicate items essentially immobile within a shipping carton in order to prevent damage from internal movement of the delicate items when the shipping carton is transported. The bonding material disposed on the flaps releasably connects to portions of the floral grouping wrappings and to portions of the internal surface of the shipping carton. The flaps can be constructed of a flexible or a rigid material.

Abstract: A wrap having a wrap opening formed through a portion thereof for wrapping a floral grouping having a bloom end and a stem end. The stem end of the floral grouping is inserted through the wrap opening in the wrap and the wrap is formed about the floral grouping and encompasses a substantial portion of the floral grouping while a portion of the stem end of the floral grouping remains extended through the wrap opening in the wrap. In one embodiment, the wrap includes an adhesive or cohesive or drawstring or the like for cooperating to secure the wrap tightly wrapped about the stem end of the floral grouping and for cooperating to secure the wrap wrapped about the floral grouping.

Abstract: A comb for combing an individual's hair or scalp and applying a liquid to the individual's hair or scalp includes a reservoir connected to comb base and a plurality of comb teeth connected to the comb base. Liquid is disposed in the reservoir, passed through the comb base and through the comb teeth where the liquid is dispensed through the tooth outlets in the comb teeth. The reservoir, the comb base and the comb teeth are transparent so that the liquid and the dispensing of the liquid may be observed. The reservoir, the comb base and the comb teeth are constructed of a microwaveable material so that the comb may be disposed in a microwave for heating the liquid. The reservoir has a flat upper end so that the comb may be supported on the flat upper end of the reservoir in a storage position of the comb.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for infrared spectrum compression wherein a plurality of referenced spectrums each corresponding to one of a plurality of known substances is digitized to obtain a plurality of reference digitized spectrums. The intensity, location and width of each peak for each reference digitized spectrum then is identified and this information is stored. The stored information relating to each of the referenced digitized spectrums is used to compare with an unknown digitized spectrum of an unknown substance to identify the unknown substance.

Abstract: A top-entry check valve having a seat, cage, disc and removable bonnet utilizes threaded fasteners to prevent movement of the seat, cage and disc in the downstream direction. An annular shoulder in the valve body prevents movement of the seat, cage and disc in the upstream direction. The disc has a hinge pin which is cradled in hinge pin supports of the cage. Removal of the bonnet allows access to the valve chamber for replacement of the seat, cage, disc or threaded fasteners.

Abstract: A wrapper for a floral grouping formed from a sheet of material having a closure bonding material on a portion thereof. The sheet of material is wrapped about the floral grouping with the closure bonding material securing the sheet of material in a wrapped position about the floral grouping to form the wrapper. A top flap is folded over an open upper end of the wrapper and connected to the wrapper to prevent the floral grouping from shifting in the wrapper and extending out from the open upper end of the wrapper. In one form, a bottom flap is connected to the wrapper and extends over an open lower end of the wrapper to prevent the floral grouping from shifting in the wrapper and extending out from the open lower end of the wrapper.

The case is connected to the roof of a house structure and the panel is movable from a storage position wherein the panel is disposed in the case to a display position wherein the panel extends a distance from the space so that the house number indicia is observable or visible from a position above the roof.

The cover includes a sheet of material having a sheet extension connected to an outer peripheral surface thereof. Abstract: A torque bar suspension scale having a platform for supporting objects to be weighed and a pair of torque bars with each torque bar being disposed at an opposite end of the platform. Strap assemblies are connected to the platform, the torque bars and a frame whereby the torque bars are rotated in response to a weight being disposed on the platform. Each strap assembly comprises a strap having a rectangularly shaped cross section.
