  • Patent number: 7903977
Abstract: A fiber optic communication system including a fiber optic link, a transmitter system and a receiver system. The transmitter system includes a laser source producing a light beam, and a polarization controller receiving the light beam and providing an expected pattern of changing states of polarization to the light beam to output light signals into the fiber optic link to cause the expected pattern of changing states of polarization to be transmitted along the fiber optic link. The receiver system is provided with a polarization analyzer, and a light detector. The light detector receives the light signals transmitted by the transmitter, and forwards data indicative of the light signals to the polarization analyzer. The polarization analyzer analyzing the data with an inverse polarization reference frame and generates an alert based on deviations of the data from the expected pattern of changing states of polarization.

  • Patent number: 7896498
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and method for separately detecting and measuring specularly reflected light and diffusely reflected light following illumination of an eye by light. The apparatus and method of the present invention facilitates substantial separation of the diffusely reflected light from light specularly reflected from the eye after passing through one or more elements of the eye, for example, the cornea, lens, retinal vasculature, the nerve fibre layer and/or the photoreceptors. The collection of these separate streams of independent optical signals to appropriate detection systems provides specificity and accuracy in determination of optical properties of one or more elements of the eye.

  • Patent number: 7873238
Abstract: A method for creating an oblique-mosaic image from a plurality of source images is disclosed. Initially, a desired area to be imaged and collected into an oblique-mosaic image is identified and then a mathematical model of a sensor of a virtual camera is created, where the virtual camera has an elevation greater than an elevation of the area to be imaged. The mathematical model has an oblique-mosaic pixel map for the sensor of the desired area. A surface location is determined for each pixel included in the oblique mosaic pixel map, and at least one source oblique image pixel of the area to be imaged is reprojected for each pixel included in the oblique-mosaic pixel map to thereby create an oblique-mosaic image of the desired geographical area. The at least one single oblique-mosaic image is visually pleasing and geographically accurate. Further, techniques for compensating for building lean in oblique-mosaic images are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7858913
Abstract: A light surface display for providing a three-dimensional image including a plurality of particles suspended within a volumetric display. A first projection system projects sequential slices of electromagnetic energy of one or more wavelengths along the length and width of the volumetric display energizing particles to form a two-dimensional image. A second projection system projects translational slices of electromagnetic energy of one or more wavelengths that intersect with the energized particles across the depth of the volumetric display. A control system synchronizes the projection of the image source and the activation source such that the two-dimensional image and the translational slices energize the particles for a pre-determined length of time so that the particles illuminate to form an illuminated three-dimensional image.
