Abstract: A detector system for detecting air flow wherein air flow is sensed by a first detector and air flow is sensed by a second detector which is spaced a distance from the first detector, the first and the second detectors each providing output indications indicating the respective sensed air flows. The detector system includes means for receiving the output indications provided by the first and the second detectors and for providing an output indication in response to an increase in one of the first and the second detector output indications, thereby providing an output indication indicating an increase in the air flow sensed by one of the first and the second detectors relative to the air flow sensed by the other one of the first and the second detectors.
Abstract: A bonnet is locked to the body of a valve into which the bonnet screws by a sheet metal bonnet lock which includes a portion that will mate with facets on the bonnet or with the sides of the valve body. Another portion of the bonnet lock is then deformed to mate with the other of the bonnet facets or valve body sides. The portion of the bonnet lock that mates with the facets on the bonnet circumscribes the bonnet such that one portion of the bonnet lock is fixed to the bonnet and the other portion is fixed to the valve body following deformation of the bonnet lock to prevent the bonnet from turning relative to the valve body.

Abstract: A vane support ring is mounted within a housing to rotate about its axis and support vanes which pivot about diameters of the vane support ring and divide the interior of the housing into two chambers. Drive shafts, pivotally attached to the vanes, extend through drive shaft apertures formed through the housing to coordinate pivotation of the vanes to rotation of the vane support ring so that the two chambers increase and decrease in volume with rotation of the vane support ring. Gases are introduced into the chambers via an inlet port and discharged from the chambers via an exhaust port that are opened and closed in coordination with vane support ring rotation by poppet valves and a cam ring geared to the vane support ring and extending about the poppet valves or, alternatively, by a slotted valve ring extending circularly about the housing and geared to the vane support ring. A spark plug or fuel injector mounted on the housing provides a combusting fuel in each chamber at minimum chamber volume.
Abstract: A self-centering bearing mounted for substantially free radial, floating movement with respect to a support having cooperating shoulders on the bearing and the support to limit the extent of radial movement of the bearing.

Abstract: A beta radiation sensor and an X-ray radiation sensor are used to monitor the specific weights of both components of a two-component web, in particular, a web of magnetic recording material, by using the beta radiation sensor to measure the combined specific weight of the material. The measurement by the X-ray sensor permits such combined specific weight to be apportioned between the two components of the web. Cross talk between the two sensors arising from bremstrahlung produced by the beta radiation sensor is suppressed by softening the beta radiation beam with films of polyester, by shielding the housing in which the detectors of the two sensors are disposed with a sheet of phenolic, and by stopping down the aperture through the sheet of phenolic through which X-ray radiation enters the detector housing.
Abstract: A system for aborting the dual pathway tachycardias in a heart comprising the syndrome of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (due generally to atrioventricular nodal reentry or atrioventricular reentry using an anomalous atrioventricular connection for retrograde conduction) by sensing cardiac impulses and, with respect to each sensed cardiac impulse, determining if such sensed cardiac impulse is an inciting cardiac impulse, a cardiac impulse which occurs at a time with respect to the last received cardiac impulse which falls within a predetermined echo zone and which will result in the initiation of a dual pathway tachycardia, and inducing an aborting cardiac impulse in response to a sensed inciting cardiac impulse in the cardiac muscle at a time within the predetermined aborting zone for aborting the initiation of the dual pathway tachycardia.

Abstract: The water permeability of a subterranean formation is selectively reduced by introducing a non-aqueous treatment agent into the formation. The treatment agent comprises a hydrogel polymer and a non-aqueous fluid carrier. The treatment agent preferably further comprises an alkali metal carbonate when calcium-rich aqueous brines are resident in the formation. The treatment agent is maintained within the formation for a time sufficient to permit the hydrogel polymer to absorb water from the formation. As it contacts water, the hydrogel polymer swells and thereby blocks further water flow through formation pores. Treatment of formations in accordance with this method permits enhanced recovery of minerals, such as hydrocarbons, by selective reduction of water flow into producing wells or shafts.
