Abstract: An animal holding chute with a retaining frame retainingly surrounding an animal holding space having an entrance formed through a portion thereof, the entrance being sized and position for permitting an animal to pass therethrough and into the animal holding space. An entrance gate is positioned in the entrance and the entrance gate is movable to an opened position for permitting access to the animal holding space through the entrance and to a closed position for preventing an animal to pass from the animal holding space through the entrance. The entrance gate also is movable in the closed position from a start position to an animal holding position, the entrance gate engaging the rear end portion of the animal and moving the animal into the animal holding space as the entrance gate is moved from the start position to the animal holding position.
Abstract: The present invention contemplates a system for reproducing information in material objects at a point of sale location wherein the information to be reproduced is provided at the point of sale location from a location remote with respect to the point of sale location, an owner authorization code is provided to the point of sale location in reponse to receiving a request code from the point of sale location requesting to reproducing predetermined information in a material object, and the predetermined information is reproduced in a material object at the point of sale location in response to receiving the owner authorization code.
Abstract: A drilling bit comprising a drill body formed from a base portion and a crown portion having a plurality of cutting elements; the base and crown portions are interengaged by a connection portion. An external opening in the crown portion communicates with a core-receiving section in the connecting portion. A core milling assembly, comprising a pair of rotatable, frustum-shaped rotary members, is supported in the connecting section. Each rotary member carries a plurality of cutting elements. During drilling, a core is received in the core-receiving section, where it is milled by the rotation of the rotary members.
Abstract: A pure culture of Bacillus licheniformis strain JF-2 (ATCC No. 39307) and a process for using said culture and the surfactant lichenysin produced thereby for the enhancement of oil recovery from subterranean formations. Lichenysin is an effective surfactant over a wide range of temperatures, pH's, salt and calcium concentrations.

Abstract: A filter apparatus including a plurality of demountable filter cartridges which each include a replacement filter element. The cartridges are mounted in the upper portion of a bi-level partition that extends across a tank having an inlet below the partition and an outlet above the lower portion of the partition at a height to be bisected by the upper surface of the upper portion of the partition. A plurality of filter apertures through the partition each receive a cartridge and each cartridge is held in place via studs that screw into the partition and received in channels formed in a header portion of the cartridge so that the cartridge can be inserted into an aperture and turned to engage the shanks of the studs with the channels in the cartridge header.
Abstract: A turbine comprising a housing and a vane assembly rotatably mounted in the housing for rotation about the axis of a ring forming a portion of the vane assembly. Vanes are mounted on the ring to pivot about diameters of the ring and sealing surfaces are formed on the vanes to mate with the inner surface of the housing and thereby divide the interior of the housing into an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. The chambers move about the ring axis as the ring rotates and expand and contract with pivotation of the vanes on the ring. Drive shafts pivotally attached to the vanes extend through the housing wall so that rotation of the vane assembly will cause rotation of the drive shafts. The drive shafts further relate the vane assembly rotation to pivotation of the vanes on the ring so that pivotation of the vanes caused by pressurizing the inlet chamber while exhausting the outlet chamber will rotate the vane assembly and drive shafts.
Abstract: A web manufacturing apparatus including a flexible shaping member that engages fluid material of which a web is formed, a support that extends parallel to the shaping member and a plurality of thermal expansion rods that extend between the shaping member and the support so that the shaping member can be flexed to control the web thickness profile by means of heaters on the thermal expansion rod. Each thermal expansion rod is fixed to the shaping member and is secured to the support via a differential screw mechanism that includes a driven screw and an adjusting screw positioned in tandem in a threaded bore through the support and are coupled so that the driven screw can be turned by turning the adjusting screw. The driven and adjusting screws have internally threaded bores and one end of the thermal expansion rod screws into the bore of the driven screw.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring selected parameters of a video signal wherein the video parameters to be monitored are movingly or randomly contained in the video signal outside the vertical blanking signals and wherein the video signal includes a least one of a luminance signal having positive peaks and negative peaks, a chrominance signal having a peak voltage value comprising: determining at least one video parameter selected from among: (1) an instantaneous peak voltage level of the positive peaks in the luminance signal; (2) an instantaneous peak voltage level of the negative peaks in the luminance signal; (3) the peak voltage value of the chrominance signal; and (4) combinations thereof. Each determined video parameter is compared with a reference DC voltage value selected to correspond with the determined video parameter and an output indication of each such comparison is provided.
Abstract: A method for recovering oil from a bed of tight reservoir rock in which a chamber is formed at the base of the bed followed by alternately combusting rubble in the chamber while recovering oil liberated by pyrolysis and spalling the walls of the chamber by injection of a coolant when oil production decreases. The method is practiced from a single well by extending a casing into the chamber and extending a tubing through the casing so that oxidant and coolant can be introduced into the chamber through the annulus between the casing and tubing while oil is recovered by a pump disposed in the tubing. Multiple well operation is practiced by forming a pancake fracture between the chamber and a laterally displaced well from which the oil can be pumped after seepage through the fracture. Oxidant and coolant are injected into the chamber in multiple well operation via a well at the bottom of which the chamber is formed.

Abstract: Apparatus for transferring power from the battery of a service vehicle to the battery of a second vehicle, wherein the final connection between the batteries is made from a remote location via a radio transmitter and a receiver which is mounted in the casing of the apparatus to actuate a solenoid in response to a signal from the transmitter. The circuit between the solenoid and the receiver includes a transistor to control current through the solenoid coil and the base of the transistor is connected to the battery of the second vehicle. Cables used to attach the apparatus to the second vehicle battery are wound on a spool having an interrupted ratchet on one end thereof, the ratchet engaging a ratchet lock that pivots in one direction to hold the reel when the reel is turned in one direction to pay out the battery cables and the ratchet lock pivoting in the other direction within a ratchet wheel interruption to permit free rotation of the reel in the opposite direction for retrieval of the cables on the reel.
Abstract: An electronic display including a first light emitting diode emitting a first color when biased in the forward direction, a second light emitting diode emitting a second color when biased in the forward direction, and means to selectively bias one of the first and the second light emitting diodes in the forward direction so the electronic display emits one of the first and the second colors.
Abstract: A blender for blending materials having a container with a container opening extending a distance therethrough and intersecting the upper end thereof, a cap removably connectable to the open upper end of the container, a mixer connected to the cap for blending the material and a drive assembly having a portion adapted to receive the cap with the container connected thereto and another portion removably engageable with the mixer for driving the mixer to blend the material contained in the container. The drive assembly is adapted to be battery operated and the blender of the present invention includes a recharger for recharging the blender batteries.
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting an outboard motor on the transom of a boat so that the motor can be raised and lowered on the transom. The apparatus comprises two slidably connected brackets, one for securing to the transom of the boat and one for carrying the outboard motor, and a hydraulic actuating cylinder connected between the two brackets for moving the motor mounting bracket along a vertical line relative to the bracket secured to the transom. A reversible hydraulic pump is provided for operating the hydraulic actuating cylinder.
