  • Patent number: 5688413
Abstract: According to the present invention, the inputs of the pilot power supply and the welding arc power supply are connected to a common terminal and there is provided the switching means to selectively switch the operations of the pilot power supply and the welding arc power supply with the switching means switching the power supplies to activate the pilot power supply when a pilot arc should be produced. Thus, the power supply system requires only one secondary winding in the transformer, and the single secondary winding is sufficient to make it possible to use a small and low-priced transformer. This results in reduction in the size as well as the cost of the power supply system. In addition, since the switching means can be composed of the rectifying thyristors connected to the A.C.

  • Patent number: 5666710
Abstract: A system for first setting a blind rivet and then verifying the correctness of the set comprising a rivet setting tool to set the rivet and computer logic to verify the correctness of the set. The setting tool includes a jaw assembly for holding the stem of the rivet's mandrel fitted to an axially movable pulling shaft. Both the pulling force of the setting tool and the displacement of the pulling shaft are measured and the measurements are interpreted by an integrator to determine the total energy of the setting process. The determined total energy is then compared with an ideal total energy to assess whether or not the set of the particular rivet is acceptable. Other quantitative comparisons may be made against other ideal values.

  • Patent number: 5661887
Abstract: A blind rivet set verification system for setting a blind rivet assessing the acceptability of the rivet set. The system includes a remote intensified rivet setting tool and computer hardware and software. The tool comprises a displacement transducer that produces a displacement signal and a pressure transducer that produces a pressure signal. The transducers are connected to the computer which receives the distinct signals. These signals are interpreted to plot a displacement-versus pressure waveform and to determine the velocity of the movement of an air piston that responds to the rivet set by hydraulic pressure. Using the combined date of the velocity waveform and the displacement-versus pressure waveform, the breakload is identified and compared against predetermined ideal data to assess the acceptability of the set. The displacement reading at break is corrected for jaw slippage and offset of the air piston.

  • Patent number: 5646345
Abstract: An acceleration responsive device 30 includes a support 34 which supports a rod 46 between two spaced portions of the support. A weighted disc 48 is mounted for movement on the rod and is held by a spring 128 at one end of the rod 46. An indicator 50 is also mounted for movement on the rod 46 adjacent disc 48. A tube 62 is coupled to support 34 to facilitate swinging movement of the device 30 where, due to the acceleration thereof, disc 48 is moved along rod 46 and pushes indicator 50 along the rod. When the swinging movement ceases, disc 48 is returned to the one end of rod 46 and indicator 50 remains at the position to which it was moved. A scale reading of a decal 89 adjacent the moved indicator 50 provides a indication of the acceleration attained during the swinging of device 30. This reading can be applied to a graph to assist the user of device 30 in the selection of golf clubs having a shaft stiffness most appropriate for the user.

  • Patent number: 5628473
Abstract: An apparatus (28) facilitates application of one or more strands (24) onto a mandrel (20) which is mounted for rotation. The apparatus (28) includes a frame structure (30) which supports a confining device (46) and a receptacle (48) for receiving opposite ends of the mandrel (20) in a non-gripping manner. The frame structure (30) further supports a guide frame (80) which is positioned for movement along and parallel to the mounted mandrel (20) and which guides the strands (24) onto the rotating mandrel. A pair of strands (24) may be applied to opposite sides of the mandrel (20) to balance pulling forces which result in the mandrel due to tension on the strands. Ends (143) and (145) of a pin (142) extend laterally of the mandrel axis at one end of the mandrel (20) and are insertible into slots (126), (128), (134) and (136) formed in a coupler (116) of the confining device (46) to facilitate mounting of the mandrel with the confining device.

  • Patent number: 5609530
Abstract: An impressionable medium, such as a element 56, is secured to an impact face 30 of a head 22 of a golf club 20. Alterations, such as grooves 46, are formed in a surface 42 of a target object 40. The object 40 is placed on a level surface such as a surface pad 64 with the grooves 46 being perpendicular with a plane of the pad and positioned for being struck by the element 56 and the impact face 30. Impression lines 66 are formed in the element 56 by the grooves 46 when the club 20 is swung and the head 22 strikes the object 40. Impression lines 66 are a representation of the angular relationship between a bottom 34, or grooves 32, of the head 30 and the plane of the pad 64 at the instant the element 56 and the impact face 30 strike the target object 40. This representation can be used to determine the dynamic lie of the club 20 at the instant the target object 40 is struck.
