Abstract: A lens polisher-finer apparatus has a frame and gimbal mounted assembly for providing an orbital break-up motion to a lens lapping tool. The apparatus includes an X-Y motion assembly connected to the frame and lens for providing smooth, Lissajous figure motions to the lens. Commonly driven first and second cams provide the motions in the X and Y directions.
Abstract: Described are methods of filling and emptying radiation shields comprising a container formed of thin flexible material.The method of filling comprises the steps of (a) filling the radiation shield with a gas to form the shield and then (b) replacing the gas with a radiation attenuating liquid.Additionally, when the shield configuration is not entirely filled with radiation attenuating liquid, either deliberately or due to leakage, an overpressure of gas above the radiation attenuating liquid solidifies the shield in its designed dimensional configuration.The method of emptying comprises the step of forcing the radiation attenuating liquid out through one or more outlets by forcing a gas into the radiation shield.
Abstract: A security device connected to telephone lines and to at least one sensor comprises a monitoring circuit for monitoring at least one sensor to determine a status of each sensor and to detect when the status of any sensor is a fault status, an automatic call-up circuit settable by the user of the device in accordance with a preselected telephone number to be called for automatically calling the preselected telephone number to report when any status comprises a fault status, and an answer circuit for receiving and answering any incoming telephone call received over the telephone line, and responsive to reception of a user input transmitted over the telephone lines, and designating a selected sensor to be monitored, for monitoring the sensor and transmitting the status of the sensor over the telephone line.
Abstract: A tilt-cab tractor including a chassis, a cab pivotally mounted about an axis near the front of the chassis, a suspension cylinder mounted at each corner of the cab, at least one hydraulic cab tilting cylinder, an accumulator, and a first conduit connecting the accumulator to the suspension cylinders wherein the improvement comprises; a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid for delivering hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic tilting cylinder and the shock absorber suspension cylinders, a second and third hydraulic conduit for delivering hydraulic fluid to the cab tilting cylinder and for delivering hydraulic fluid to the first conduit respectively, a control valve and means for selectively blocking flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the accumulator when the tractor brakes are applied.
Abstract: An electronic oil filter apparatus in which an electrically conductive probe is mounted within an oil filter canister and is responsive to pressure build up on a bypass valve within the oil filter. The pressure build up is caused by clogging of the filter which eventually results in opening the bypass valve allowing dirty oil to flow around the filter. When the valve is actuated in response to excess pressure build up, a low voltage switching device allows current to flow to a signal means thereby indicating a need to change the filter.
Abstract: Disclosed is a flotation mattress comprising (a) a planar, flexible bag (10) adapted to hold water during use of the mattress, (b) a hollow, annular compartment (12) surrounding the bag (10) in the plane of the bag, the compartment (12) being collapsible in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the bag (10), (c) a plurality of springs (14, 42, 56) disposed in the compartment (12) with their axes of resiliency perpendicular to the plane of the bag (10), the springs (14, 42, 56) biasing the compartment (12) towards its uncollapsed position, and (d) means (20, 34, 36, 38) for maintaining the horizontal stability of the planar, flexible bag (10) while the mattress is in use.

Abstract: A gear shift connecting apparatus of the type operable to latch and release a gear shift rod of a tiltable tractor cab to a chassis portion of the tractor. The gear shift connecting apparatus includes a housing operably connected to the tractor chassis and a connection member fashioned on the lowermost portion of the gear shift rod. A hydraulically actuated connecting/release assembly is mounted within the housing and includes a cylindrical cup operable to receive the connection portion of the gear shift rod. In a connection mode spherical locking members carried by a cylindrical sleeve radially engage a connection portion of the gear shift rod. A locking/disabling sleeve is telescopically mounted about the cylindrical sleeve and is biased in a posture to retain the spherical locking members in contact with the gear shift rod. In a release mode a hydraulic chamber is actuated which slides the locking/disabling sleeve out of backup contact with the spherical locking members.
Abstract: This invention relates to a loading and unloading apparatus for a load-carrying vehicle. The arrangement includes a plurality of cables which are laid on the floor of the vehicle and which support loads placed thereon. The cables can be moved in either longitudinal direction on the vehicle floor whereby loads supported on the cables are moved along the vehicle floor to facilitate loading and unloading of the vehicle. The cables are for all practical purposes endless and have a load supporting run and a return run. The return run is so arranged as to not interfere with the understructure of the vehicle and the fifth wheel connection, in the case of a trailer of a tractor-trailer rig. The cables are driven by means of a driven bulkhead which is connected to the cables and which is, in turn, driven by a chain drive mechanism.
Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneously grinding a peripheral shape and edge surface upon a pair of ophthalmic lenses including an abrading wheel and first and second floating heads for rotatably supporting a pair of ophthalmic lenses on either side of the abrading wheel. The lenses are biased toward the wheel and are incrementally rotated about mutually parallel axes which lie parallel with a central longitudinal axis of the abrading wheel. An electronic control system is operably connected to each of the lenses and serves to control incremental rotation of each of the lenses as well as lateral engagement of the lenses with the central abrading wheel.
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a wall panel or the like including a first member operable for connection to a lower portion of a wall panel and a second member for stably engaging a ground surface. The first and second members are adjustably interconnected at juxtaposed flat surface portions wherein one of the surfaces is fashioned with a vertical slot and the other of the surfaces is provided with an arcuate slot. A pair of threaded fasteners extend through the slots and serve to clamp the surfaces in a selected vertical and angular adjustment posture so as to permit stable support for a vertical wall panel resting upon an uneven ground surface.
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved hydraulic control comprising a fail-to-neutral module. As is conventional, the hydraulic control comprises a main spool and a fluid flow path comprising a bridge circuit including a driver stage. The fail-to-neutral module comprises means defining a fail-to-neutral orifice which (a) is located in the fluid flow path upstream of the bridge circuit and (b) has a relatively large flow area but a maximum dimension smaller than the smallest orifice in the pilot stage. Preferably the means comprise a pin positioned through a hole, the pin and the hole both being circular in cross-section and coaxial, and the fail-to-neutral orifice is the clearance between the pin and the boundary of the hole.
Abstract: A conveyor, preferably of the roller type, for receiving palletized loads arranged in two parallel rows. The conveyor is arranged in association with a vehicle whereby the palletized loads to be placed on the vehicle are prestaged on the conveyor and the entire load is moved into the vehicle. Palletized loads are placed on the one end of the conveyor by means of a forklift truck or the like and then the palletized loads are aligned and compacted on the conveyor by means of a movable gantry which straddles the conveyor. The gantry is provided with expansible side walls which move laterally inwardly toward the palletized loads to compact and align the loads laterally. Rear gates are swingably mounted on the gantry between open and closed positions. When the gates are closed, they act as a bulkhead to advance the palletized loads on the roller conveyor as the gantry is advanced relative to the conveyor.

The tool comprises an electric motor having a rotary output shaft, an adapter in the form of a double-ended chuck one end of which is sized to receive the rotary output shaft of the electric motor, and a plurality of mandrels each one of which comprises a stem sized to be received in the other end of the adapter and a working shaft sized and shaped to receive different sizes and/or shaped faucet seats. The electric motor may be either hand-held or bench mounted.
Abstract: A furniture unit comprising a substantially L-shaped panel which, with other identical panels, is used as a supporting base structure for a variety of different furniture pieces including, but not limited to, desks, sofas or chairs, shelving and the like. The panels are provided with equispaced slots on each of the vertical side edges thereof. Brackets are received in and interlockingly engaged with said slots on each of said vertical edges in selected positions for supporting either a desk top or other element depending upon the use to which the panels are put. The panels are also provided with slots in each of their horizontal edges, said slots being of equal size and spacing such that the panels can be inverted for right-hand or left-hand use.
