  • Patent number: 4059270
Abstract: A device utilizing a system of photobeam measurers to detect the speed imparted to a golf ball by a golfer that is utilized with a golf club of adjustable weight and design for determining the optimum club design for a particular individual golfer being tested. The device is used in a method of custom-fitting golf clubs in which the proper swing weight, length, and lie and loft angles of a golf club are determined. The method of fitting consists in a series of steps in which a golfer hits a series of balls through the photobeams with a club which is incrementally lengthened, weighted, and has its lie angle adjusted. The adjustments are made until the point is reached at which the golfer imparts maximum velocity.

  • Patent number: 4056936
Abstract: A screen of foraminous material is laid directly on the surface of shallow water beds where weed growth is likely or is occurring. The screen is non-reactive to the surrounding water and creates a physical semi-barrier to rootlet and stem formation and to the transmission of light to the area therebetween to thereby retard germination and growth of weeds but not to stop growth entirely. The screen is formed with sufficient openings so that the normal movement of the surrounding water is not materially affected.

  • Patent number: 4052083
Abstract: A parallelogram load-bracing device particularly useful for bracing loads in trucks when the load consumes less than the space available in the truck. The device is suspended from the roof of the truck and includes a parallelogram frame having laterally movable load-engaging members attached thereto. The device is constructed in sections such that the device can be readily lengthened by adding additional sections. A single actuating means is located at one end of the device for expanding and contracting the device into and out of engagement with the load to be braced. Alternate embodiments include mounting laterally moving load-engaging members on the interior side walls of the truck.

  • Patent number: 4027434
Abstract: A follower travels the inside contour of a rotating eyeglass frame and the movement caused by changing radii is detected by a linear variable differential transformer and converted into electrical signals which actuate an electrically operated valve. The valve, in turn, controls the movement of a hydraulic cylinder which dictates the positioning of a lens blank to be edged relative to the grinding periphery of an abrading wheel taking into account the position of the lens edge on the abrading surface.

  • Patent number: 4009973
Abstract: A seal for a vane type fluid pressure motor or pump. The motor or pump comprises a housing having a chamber receiving a rotor, an elongated bore extends through the housing and the rotor and receives a shaft which is drivingly engaged by the motor through a splined connection. A seal assembly is disposed on either side of the rotor to prevent leakage from the area between the side walls of the rotor and the side walls of the chamber and into the elongated bore. Each seal assembly is comprised of a cylindrical sleeve affixed to a side wall of the rotor and extends axially therefrom. The assembly is disposed in an annular recess in the bore at a point adjacent the rotor. The sleeve is affixed to the rotor for rotation therewith and is spaced from an undercut portion of the housing wall. The undercut defines the annular recess. An annular elastomeric sealing member is disposed in the recess and is affixed at its radially outward side to the recess wall and surrounds and snugly engages the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4009774
Abstract: A conveyor primarily useful for handling palletized loads comprising in combination a walking beam conveyor and a non-powered roller conveyor. The palletized load is normally supported on a static support and the roller conveyor, but when it is desired to shift the load longitudinally, the walking beam conveyor lifts the load only a distance sufficient to lift a portion of the load resting on the static support by taking advantage of the inherent flexibility in the pallet while the pallet still rests on the roller conveyor. The walking beam conveyor then shifts the load longitudinally along the roller conveyor.
