Abstract: A device for attachment to a hospital bed to enable quick, easy weighing of bedridden patients, provided as a retrofit device for attachment to hospital beds which are not equipped with such devices as original equipment. The device contains a load cell in a housing, with the housing arranged for mounting to a cross-beam of the bed. A retractable support leg extends through the bottom of the housing, and when the bed is raised on the support leg, the load cell is deflected to provide a reading of the bed weight. By performing the weight measurement once without a patient, and keeping track of changes in bed sheets and linens, the value of a patient's weight can be quickly determined while the patient remains bedridden. The mechanism which raises the bed on the support leg can be provided in several embodiments, including an electric motor drive, hydraulic piston, or mechanical foot pedal.

Abstract: A method for behavioristic-format coding of quantitative resource data for control, planning and communication purposes in line businesses, utilities, etc. An individual coding unit can be used in a specific real-time object-oriented behavioristic control loop, and provide coherent, flexible data for control, planning, budgeting and forecasting, using a digital Tough Stochastic Decomposition (TSD) principle as the general behavioristic method. In accordance with the TSD method, the input raw data is converted in a standard rectangular digital matrix format, in which the 24-hour calendar day is divided into four 6-hour intervals. The coding apparatus is connected to primary instrumentation and provides total distributed raw data group coding, in non-programmable fashion, providing four digital-coded numbers a day, as four time history files.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fixing images, holograms and domain gratings in crystals by application of an electric field on a crystal and simultaneous illumination of it with a light pattern. The fixing procedure is based on a screening effect. The modulation of the domains may be perpendicular to the c-axis. Another application of the method is in frequency mixing such as second harmonic generation and parametric processes, by overcoming the problem of phase matching using the domain gratings. Thus, it is possible to obtain controllable broadband mixing and tailored quasi-phase matching for several wavelengths or for prespecified wavelength tuning ranges and frequency widths.

Abstract: A massaging device constructed as a set of massaging elements comprising disc-shaped rollers rotatably mounted on the ends of a plurality of transversely-positioned axles spaced apart along the length of a strap and retained by the strap. The axles and rollers are designed so that the axles are flush-mounted with the outer face of the rollers, and the axles do not project beyond the rollers, eliminating any possibility of injuring the skin while massaging. The strap is designed to insure that the massaging elements do not become entangled, while preserving the stability and flexibility of the device. The ends of the strap are provided with wide handles, providing additional comfort during use. The inventive design provides an inexpensive, light, sturdy, safe and easy-to-use massaging device.
Abstract: A sturdy, easily constructed shelving support system for homes, stores and offices. The system uses shelf hangers and wall brackets, employing a novel, push-fit interlocking connector. The shelf hanger is fabricated as a rigid wire member, bent into a V-shape and connected at its ends to a right angled upright member by the push-fit connector locked into a square opening formed In the upright. The lower leg of the shelf hanger is suspended by the support leg, with its end portion flush against the upright wall, so that It does not rotate, to provide a stable support for a shelf end. The push-fit connectors are easily locked into the openings In the upright member, and may be quickly removed and re-positioned, enabling quick and easy construction of an entire shelving system within minutes, or easy alteration of its layout. A feature of the invention is that in addition to its support function, the support leg acts as a shelf book-end.
Abstract: A weighing device which is dedicated for use on a rotary table of rotary machine such as a rotary fluid filling machine. The weighing device includes a pair of load cells arranged in reverse symmetry with respect to a radial line emanating from the center of rotation. Due to the reverse symmetry, the deflection of each of the load cells will produce errors resulting from the centrifugal forces that will cancel each other, providing accurate weighing.

Abstract: A method for producing a photodiode with a simplified planar device architecture based on a single layer of HgCdTe using a mature, established growth technology for the sensing material, combined with an implanted homojunction which is at least partially activated during MOCVD CdTe passivation. The device architecture is based on a planar structure, a p-on-n homojunction for sensing the infrared radiation, and a CdTe or CdZnTe/HgCdTe heterostructure for passivation. The MOCVD CdTe passivation can be applied ex-situ, irrespective of the growth technology of the sensing material, and the homojunction is at least partially activated while applying the CdTe passivation. Thus, a major simplification in device architecture is achieved, based on a single layer in contrast to known, double layer heterostructures.

Abstract: An automobile sunshade cover shades a passenger compartment of an automobile. The sunshade is attached at one end to a pouch for storing the cover, and is arranged so that the pouch is freely suspended by laces from suitable fittings of the automobile, such as the hinges attaching the lid of the trunk to the automobile body. The pouch serves to anchor the sunshade when deployed. The sunshade has a crossbar attached to its front edge which provides a convenient grip for the user during the deployment and folding back of the cover, while acting as a second anchor of the cover when placed under the windshieId wipers. In its operative position, the sunshade covers all the automobile's windows providing protection against the sun regardless of the time of day that the sunshade is deployed or the orientation of the parked vehicle. The sunshade does not cover the automobile's registration plates or rear reflectors.
Abstract: A treatment and stimulation device provided as a compact, portable unit having an applicator capable of horizontal and vertical movements for manipulation of the skin and underlying tissue under electronic circuit control. In a preferred embodiment, the applicator is provided with reversible rotation directed against the skin to provide horizontal movement having uneven angles of deflection, and vertical up/down movement is supplied by a solenoid. By virtue of the electronic control, these movements are continuously variable, and can be integrated and finely controlled, to produce any desired physical stimulation effect on the skin and tissue, for medical or cosmetic purposes. The different kinds of receptors in the skin and tissue can be selectively activated, since they are frequency dependent and direction-force dependent.
Abstract: A vertical trencher having a cutter body with cutting teeth arranged in a spiral configuration on its circumference with an increasing rise angle, for excavating various size trenches, which is operable at high speed and efficiency, and suitable for use on hard and rocky ground. The cutter body is formed with a spiral-shaped concave channel, with grinding teeth attached to its outer edge. The grinding teeth cut soil and rock loose, so that pieces are scooped into the concave channel. The rise angle of the concave channel to the horizontal increases along the length of the cutter body. Thus, loose pieces of soil are transported upwardly along the concave channel at an increasing axial speed. The cutter body is connected at its upper end to a hydraulic engine mounted on the housing, which provides rotational power.
Abstract: A measurement chamber for measuring the quantity and composition of liquids, fabricated of a uniform semi-transparent material for illumination using infrared light. The chamber construction alleviates the problem of bypass light via the side walls of the chamber, and the construction is simple and suitable for mass production.
Abstract: A device for terminating a telephone line and connecting a telephone handset/headset thereto under control of a computer system having a keyboard and a computer, without requiring keyboard replacement or hardware modification inside the computer. The device is connected between a computer and a standard keyboard, enabling the integration of a telephone with a computer system. The device reads the scan codes which are transmitted on the keyboard bus and used by the computer to pass information from the keyboard to the computer I/O port. A keyboard controller in the keyboard provides primary control of the keyboard bus. The device recognizes scan codes which are dedicated to it, and would not otherwise be recognized by the keyboard controller. Thus, the standard keyboard ignores these scan codes, while the device will interpret them as commands to operate telephone functions.

Abstract: A microprocessor-based apparatus provided as a dedicated control unit, which enables a standard software protocol to provide a digital presentation of security criteria associated with stable analog process data relating to recurrent processes in businesses and utilities. The general method introduced here provides security criteria data in two functional control loops: First, the I-criterion provides continuous monitoring of the input analog signal and interruptions thereof, which are presented in time units. Second, the Q-criterion provides the input analog signal conversion in digital form, and identifies the signal quality by determining whether it falls within or deviates from a standard tolerance range. In addition, a stochastic signal decomposition is performed to provide four 6-hour disjoint data files within a behavioristic control loop/each calendar day.
Abstract: Logic elements for use in carry/borrow and comparator systems, which operate in accordance with the IMPLY logical relationship. Utilization of the IMPLY logical relationship overcomes the inherent complication of inversion so that it becomes an effective benefit, making possible uniform carry system layouts with uniform logic elements using a newly defined gate pair combination in general. The gate pair logic elements provide a novel carry-propagate signal (P) which includes a redundant carry-generate signal (G), thereby defining a novel carry-integrate signal (I) . The novel carry-integrate, signal (I) together with the carry-generate signal (G) define a signal pair utilized in succeeding carry levels which are organized in a simplified fashion. For-2-bit position (i+1, i) positive sense logic, the carry-integrate signal can be represented by I(i+1, i)=G(i+1)+P(i+1). P(i)) . Wherever the IMPLY relationship is involved in logic functions, the design of CMOS gates is affected and can be modified.
