  • Patent number: 7123123
Abstract: A high-frequency transformer. The transformer comprises a high-voltage winding. A first bus bar is positioned proximate the high voltage winding and extends to a first portion of a plurality of power switching devices. The first bus bar is electrically coupled to the first portion of the power switching devices. A second bus bar is positioned proximate the high voltage winding and extends to a second portion of the power switching devices. The second bus bar is electrically coupled to both the high voltage winding and the second portion of the power switching devices. A third bus bar extends between the first and second bus bars and is electrically coupled to the first bus bar, second bus bar, and the high voltage winding. The second and third bus bars form a low voltage winding that electrically cooperates with the high voltage winding to form the high-frequency transformer.

  • Patent number: 7124036
Abstract: Demand in a water distribution system is determined by the steps of measuring the volume of water flowing into the water distribution system through an input during a predetermined interval of time, measuring the change in the volume of water stored in the storage reservoir during the same time interval, measuring the volume of water flow exiting the water distribution system through an output during the same time interval, calculating an adjusted input measurement by subtracting the measured flow of water exiting the water distribution system from the measured volume of water flow into the water distribution system, and adding a measured increase in the volume of the water in the storage reservoir to the adjusted input measurement or subtracting a measured decrease in the volume of water in the storage reservoir from the adjusted input measurement to determine the demand.

  • Patent number: 7106030
Abstract: A system for controlling the excitation of an alternator field coil. The system comprises a capacitor forming a charge reservoir, a first and a second selectively operable switch connected to opposing ends of a field coil of the alternator, a first catch diode, and a second catch diode. At least one of the first and second switches are operated at a variable duty cycle and the capacitor both absorbs energy from the field coil and supplies energy to the field coil to regulate the magnetic field of the field coil, effective to regulate the output voltage of the alternator and rapidly compensate for changes in at least one load connected to the alternator.

  • Patent number: 7059639
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a hood latch cable retaining system. A cable mounting cavity for a conventional snap-fit cable fastener is provided in a latch support structure of the hood release mechanism. A retainer is mounted to the latch support structure and positioned such that a flange portion of the retainer having a confronting edge is spaced a predetermined distance and offset from the center line of the cable mounting cavity. The latch support structure may be deformed or repositioned during a frontal vehicle impact, causing the confronting edge of the flange to come into contact with the control cable. The confronting edge impedes the snap-fit fastener from disengaging from the latch support structure, preventing the vehicle hood from inadvertently opening.

  • Patent number: 7029608
Abstract: An iris assembly of this invention comprises an iris button having a frontside surface. An iris member is joined to the iris button frontside surface and has an iris image disposed thereon. The iris image is provided using digital image capture, storage, enhancement, and printing techniques, and is provided onto a suitable substrate. A cornea piece is made from a clear material, and is joined to the iris member frontside surface. Prior to joining, the iris member is encapsulated with a clear protective film thereover that operates to protect the iris image from unwanted smudging or other type of distortion during the step of joining the cornea piece. Iris assemblies of this invention are constructed in a manner that provide a more accurate reproduction of the iris image, in a manner that is both time efficient and cost effective, when compared to conventional iris assemblies and methods for making the same.

  • Patent number: 6970088
Abstract: A method for tracking and handling people and articles at an airport using Radio-Frequency Identification (“RFID”) tags. The RFID tag contains an electronic microchip with a memory portion, permanently attached to a substrate having a planar antenna. Each RFID tag is tuned to operate at a specific frequency and includes a unique identifier number stored in the memory portion. Passenger-specific information, such as passenger name, address and flight itinerary may be sent to the microchip for storage in the memory portion by means of an RF field provided by an external “scanner” device. The scanner also provides a means for reading data stored in the memory portion of the microchip. The RFID tag is small, rugged, and unobtrusive, allowing it to be applied to passenger articles and documents, allowing for more efficient check-in, automated tracking of articles, theft prevention, and increased security.

  • Patent number: 6789344
Abstract: An arm rest and support for aiming. The arm rest and support consists of an upper member hingedly attached to a lower member. A pair of straps attached to the lower member wrap around the torso of the user for support. A third strap attached to the upper member is adapted to wrap around the aiming arm of the user. When not in use, the arm rest and support may be folded, allowing the user to move about. When the support is needed, the user simply raises his or her arm, causing the upper member to pivot and lock at an approximate right angle in relation to the lower member, providing the user with support for aiming resulting in greater accuracy and reduced fatigue.
