  • Patent number: 4401097
Abstract: A compound bow includes improved cam members eccentrically mounted upon the bow limb tips and each provided with a main body section having a curved lever section extending outwardly therefrom. A groove or track in the periphery of the main body section extends about the outer periphery of the lever section to provide a continuous over-lapping track disposed in a single vertical plane. A bowstring end is disposed within each lever section track while each main body section track receives the cam end of a tension cable. Adjustable or replaceable elements allow for the ready synchronization of the two cam members as well as variation of the bow draw weight.

  • Patent number: 4398078
Abstract: A method of finishing an annular component such as a brush seal to a substantially uniform wall thickness, and apparatus therefor. Two rollers are mounted with their axes parallel, one roller being spatially fixed and the other biassed by a spring towards said one roller, whereby the annular article may be held therebetween. A machining operation, such as centerless grinding or centerless electro-discharge errosion is performed on the article as the article is turned by power-driving at least one of the two rollers, the machining operation using the spatially fixed roller as a reference surface for the machining.

  • Patent number: 4391057
Abstract: An actuator system for the trigger return in double-action revolvers includes an actuating rod having a rounded end engaged in a recess in the trigger with a helical coiled return spring biasing the rod by means of a cylindrical shoulder thereon and a rotary abutment member having a bore, which bore serves as a guide for the axially shiftable rod. The system provides an improved double-action operation since it compensates for the increasing reaction of the spring by reducing the lever arm or moment of this reaction on the trigger during its rearward movement. An improvement enables the user to control the "trigger weight" in a single-action operation by the provision of a return spring control bushing which can be adjustably threaded in the rotary abutment member to vary the effective operating length of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4390156
Abstract: A compression mold includes punch and cavity components fabricated from initially flat sheets of relatively thin metal. The sheets of each component are shaped, assembled and joined to provide box-like components defining mating mold surfaces yielding molded parts which may be straight or laterally and/or vertically curved. The hollow interior of the two components allows for the circulation therethrough of an appropriate heat transfer medium to permit molding of either thermosetting or thermoplastic compounds.

  • Patent number: 4388916
Abstract: A steam generation apparatus includes a primary source of hot water supplied to an enclosed hot water receptacle maintained at a pressure of approximately 300 psi. Supply and return lines pump the hot water in a recirculating manner through a serially connected supplemental heating device until the hot water has reached a temperature of substantially 400.degree. F. whereupon a thermal valve associated with the supplemental heating device opens to deliver the heated water to an expansion tank. Steam formed within the expansion tank is transmitted through a steam outlet line to appropriate using apparatus. The initial hot water source may alternately include industrial by-product heated waste water on a primary heating station serially connected between a water supply and the enclosed hot water receptacle. Water condensed in the expansion tank is recycled to either the hot water receptacle or primary heating station.

  • Patent number: 4386645
Abstract: A closure includes a plurality of vertical panels suspended from an overhead support and successively joined to one another by interlocking, alternate outer and inner pivot elements attached to the panel lateral edges. When the closure is collapsed the panels are folded about the pivot elements into a stacked, parallel diposition. Improved articulation between the panels is achieved by means of unique outer and inner pivot element components including respectively, a curved groove and a curved arm, both describing an arc of approximately 270.degree.. Female elements on the base of each pivot element cooperate with mating male elements joined to each panel lateral edge to allow ready assembly therebetween, with the panels themselves comprising either metal and/or a plastic composition.

  • Patent number: 4383778
Abstract: In the typewriter driving of the platen (1) is effected by the motor shaft (3) which operates a character selection device. This motor shaft (3) and the platen (1) occupy predetermined angular positions at rest.During a driving command of the platen, a part (26) brings a transmission pinion (22) into mesh with the last controlled pinion (9) of a gear train (5 to 9) coupled to the motor shaft (3) before this shaft is actuated by the motor (4). The transmission pinion (22) is secured to one end of the transmission shaft (16, 19, 20) and the other end of the shaft carries a toothed wheel (15) in mesh with a driving pinion (14) secured to the platen. The angular notching of the pinions and their number of teeth is provided in such a manner that the teeth of the pinion (22) engage exactly between the teeth of the controlled pinion (9).

  • Patent number: 4377113
Abstract: A rocket firing system comprises a magnetic core, a co-axial driver coil and a sensor coil or coils which are connected to a detector device which detects the presence and the desired state of a further coil which is inductively linked to the magnetic core. In use a low-power signal voltage is first applied to the driver coil. Subject to the detector device indicating the presence and desired state of a firing circuit of a rocket including the further coil, an operating power voltage is then applied to the driver coil to induce a firing voltage in the firing circuit.

  • Patent number: 4373708
Abstract: A shock absorption thrust mechanism includes a thrust piece (19) which is used as a stop for a moving body in motion. This thrust piece 19 is prone to displacement under the effect of kinetic energy of the moving body, against the action of a spring (20) and a shock absorber (21). The displacement of the thrust piece (19) depends on the kinetic energy of the moving body under shock, which is prejudicial particularly with respect to typewriters, where this displacement occurs in the stop position of the moving body or ensures the control of a function. In order to obtain a constant displacement of the thrust piece (19), the mechanism includes a driving device (10, 24) which moves the thrust piece (19) in a predetermined movement, the driving device (10, 24) acting jointly with the moving body on the thrust piece (19).

  • Patent number: 4372285
Abstract: The ends of a compound bow tension cable are positively and adjustably anchored by an attachment bracket pivotally mounted upon the bow limb tips adjacent the eccentric wheels. The attachment bracket includes two somewhat similar components, elongated in nature, with one component pivotally attached relative the bow limb tip and the other component having a tension cable end fixed thereto. The two components are assembled in an overlapping arrangement with the juxtaposed faces thereof provided with mating adjustment elements such as transversely disposed teeth or serrations whereupon after selecting the appropriate relative longitudinal relationship between the two components, a releasable fastener is tightened to retain the mating adjustment elements in a fixed disposition insuring a rigid bracket member maintaining the selected tension upon the attached cable end.

  • Patent number: 4370972
Abstract: Cable ends of a compound bow are adjustably and securely anchored by an attachment member pivotally mounted adjacent the bow eccentric wheels. The attachment member body is of substantially constant thickness and includes a plurality of openings therethrough parallel to the opposite planar faces of the body and angularly offset relative to one another to define a circuitous cable pathway. An end section of the cable is secured by insertion of a threaded lock device through an edge wall of the body into an enlarged transverse anchor bore allowing radial distortion of crimping of the cable end section.

  • Patent number: 4370788
Abstract: A method of lining a cylindrical bore for instance of an internal combustion engine with a thin-walled liner. Initially, a strip of material is cut to such a length that when formed into a cylindrical liner of external diameter equal to that of the unlined bore the liner is subjected to hoop-stress. The cut strip is pressed into a semi-circular groove in a jig-plate with a mandrel of at least part-circular form, and then two jig cheek-pieces each defining a quadrant-shaped groove are moved to deform the strip into a cylindrical shape. During this, the strip is held in the groove in the jig-plate for instance by electromagnets let into the jig-plate, or by a vacuum-holding technique. The grooves respectively in the jig-plate and jig-cheek pieces together define a cylinder of the same diameter as the bore to be lined, so that the liner is subjected to hoop-stress while in the jig.
