  • Patent number: 6698157
Abstract: A building system includes structural insulated panels having an inner insulating core such as of foam plastic or agri-board and strong thin facings such as of plastic impregnated/reinforced paper on opposed surfaces of the insulating core. The impregnated/reinforced paper provides the panel with high strength and facilitates attaching the panel to dimensional lumber or to similar adjacent panels. The opposed outer facings overlap/extend beyond the insulating core's edges in various configurations so as to provide several different panels, each adapted to satisfy a specific structural purpose. In a first configuration, three edges of the outer facings overlap respective edges of the insulating core for also overlapping a base plate, a top plate and an adjacent stud, panel, window or doorjamb.

  • Patent number: 6691554
Abstract: A gas sensor for detection of oxidizing and reducing gases, including O2, CO2, CO, and H2, monitors the partial pressure of a gas to be detected by measuring the temperature rise of an oxide-thin-film-coated metallic line in response to an applied electrical current. For a fixed input power, the temperature rise of the metallic line is inversely proportional to the thermal conductivity of the oxide coating. The oxide coating contains multi-valent cation species that change their valence, and hence the oxygen stoichiometry of the coating, in response to changes in the partial pressure of the detected gas. Since the thermal conductivity of the coating is dependent on its oxygen stoichiometry, the temperature rise of the metallic line depends on the partial pressure of the detected gas. Nanocrystalline (<100 nm grain size) oxide coatings yield faster sensor response times than conventional larger-grained coatings due to faster oxygen diffusion along grain boundaries rather than through grain interiors.

  • Patent number: 6674228
Abstract: An inline electron gun for use in a multi-beam electron gun as in a color cathode ray tube (CRT) includes a main focus lens for focusing the electron beams on the CRT's display screen for providing a video image. The main focus lens includes plural charged grids aligned in a spaced manner along the electron gun's longitudinal axis through which plural (typically three) electron beams are directed. One or more of these charged grids includes at least two aligned common apertures for passing the three electron beams. The layered common aperture arrangement allows for increasing the length of the electron gun as well as the effective diameter of the electron gun's main focus lens for improved video image resolution without introducing electron beam astigmatism.

  • Patent number: 6666573
Abstract: A portable mixing/delivery apparatus mixes dry pre-blended materials, such as homogeneous cementitious combinations of dry sand, cement, Lime, color pigments, etc., packaged in large bulk bags for use at a remote construction site. The bulk bag is lifted by a removable rack having plural lift eyes and the combination is positioned over a height adjustable frame. The granular material is then discharged into a continuous mixer having a dynamic input mixing stage, an output dry-to-wet mixing stage, and a transition stage therebetween. The entire assembly (bulk bag, frame and continuous mixer) is portable and can be lifted such as by a forklift to the height of a masonry scaffold for dispensing the mixed, wet granular material directly to the point of use. The apparatus allows the continuous mixer and its discharge tube to rotate to facilitate dispensing of the material directly to the point of use.

  • Patent number: 6656331
Abstract: An antistatic/antireflective coating is applied by sputtering to the outer surface of a video display screen such as in a cathode ray tube (CRT) and is comprised of an inner antistatic layer and an outer antireflective layer. The inner antistatic layer is conductive, while the outer antireflective layer is insulative. The inner antistatic layer is deposited on the entire outer surface of the display screen, while a portion of the antistatic layer is masked during deposition of the outer antireflective layer leaving a portion, or portions, of the inner antistatic layer exposed. The exposed portion, or portions, of the antistatic layer is then electrically coupled to the CRT's grounded implosion protection, or tension, band for safely directing electrostatic charge on the display screen to neutral ground.

  • Patent number: 6655266
Abstract: Apparatus for stacking bales of hay into large bundles such as, for example, three bales high and seven bales wide, positions bands about the stacked array to provide a tightly bound, compressed stack of bales. The stacking apparatus compresses the stacked bales during banding with a greater force applied to the same facing portions of the bales as applied during formation of the bales to form a solid, rigid, self-supporting large bundle made up of small bales. Parallel spaced compression zones extending inwardly are formed in the upper and lower rows of bales in the least compressed portion of the bales for receiving the bands which are applied without high tension so as not to damage the hay in holding the bundle of hay bales together.

  • Patent number: 6651005
Abstract: A method for establishing universal standards as a measure of a crop grower's skill and management uses crop yield and soil productivity values to determine real-time yield indices which are provided such as on a video display during crop harvesting. This allows a harvesting equipment operator to visually inspect the field at the time these measurements are made to observe specific conditions, i.e., weeds, insects, disease, drainage, fertility, etc., at any location in the field to identify opportunities to improve management and cultural practices for any given tract of land. By alerting the operator to the relationships between the various aforementioned conditions, as well as to changes in these relationships, to plant productivity, important information is made available, and may be stored for subsequent review and analysis, for improving crop yields.
