  • Patent number: 4021885
Abstract: A strand of sausage filling is pushed stepwise through a tube over which is fitted an empty sausage casing such that as the strand emerges stepwise from the downstream end of the tube it fills the casing. The filled casing is gripped between a pair of conveyor belts whose spacing is predetermined and is pulled away from the tube stepwise synchronously with the advance of the strand in the tube. Between advance steps of the strand and of the filled casing the tube is rotated such that the casing is twisted to form individual sausage links. The instantaneous speed at which the conveyor pulls the filled casing from the tube is proportional to the instantaneous speed of the strand in the tube. The spacing between the conveyor belts may also be varied automatically as a function of the overall conveyor operating speed.

  • Patent number: 4020404
Abstract: A motor has a shaft carrying a dielectric disk on whose edge is fitted an undulating iron ring formed with a plurality of angularly equispaced points that pass beneath a magnetic detector head that generates a sinusoidal voltage signal having a frequency proportional to the rotation velocity of the shaft. This sinusoidal signal is clipped at a minimum signal level and then fed to an amplifier once it has passed through a resonant circuit tuned to a frequency corresponding to the desired motor rotation speed. The output side of this resonant circuit is connected via a capacitor and variable resistance to the input of a Schmitt trigger which operates a relay controlling the motor so as to maintain the motor speed within a desired range.

  • Patent number: 4015419
Abstract: To facilitate acceleration or deceleration of the stepping rate of a time-keeping counter responding to driving pulses from a frequency divider connected to a crystal-controlled oscillator, a succession of such driving pulses is taken from an OR gate with inputs receiving a basic pulse train .phi..sub..gamma. a normally present first ancillary pulse train .phi..sub..beta. spacedly interleaved with pulse train .phi..sub..gamma. and a normally absent second ancillary pulse train .phi..sub..alpha. with pulse positions offset from those of the other two pulse trains. To retard the timepiece, the pulses of train .phi..sub..beta. are blocked for a desired period; to advance it, pulses of train .phi..sub..alpha. are interpolated at a rate depending on the cadence of a series of control pulses selectively synthesized from a combination of low-frequency stage outputs of the frequency divider.

  • Patent number: 4016476
Abstract: An input line carrying a square-wave voltage is connected through a capacitor to the drain and via an inverter to the gate of a MOSFET acting as a diode, the relative magnitudes of the drain and gate pulses being so chosen that the FET conducts during alternate half-cycles of the square wave whereby the capacitor is charged during nonconductive half-cycles and is fully discharged to the potential of the source of the FET during conductive half-cycles. If the source is biased by a constant voltage, a square wave in a higher voltage range is available at the drain. If the source is connected to potential through another capacitance, a d-c voltage is available at that electrode. Complementary MOSFET/diodes can be connected in push-pull or in cascade to amplify the input voltage; they may also be combined with supplementary voltage boosters including cascaded stages composed of ordinary diodes and capacitors. The MOSFET/diode may be part of an electronic clock drive.

  • Patent number: 4003643
Abstract: The housing of a motion-picture camera has a cassette-receiving space into which at least one feeler projects to detect the insertion of a sound-film cassette differing in shape from a silent-film cassette. With both types of cassettes the film is intermittently transported past an image gate by a traction claw; in the case of a sound-film cassette a portion of the film downstream of the image window is accessible for engagement by a constant-speed feeder in the vicinity of a sound-recording head. The feed rate of the traction claw is stabilized by a centrifugal governor in the presence of a silent-film cassette; upon sensing a sound-film cassette, the feeler deactivates the governor and synchronizes the claw drive with the constant-speed feeder under the control of a mechanism, such as a loop detector, which measures the length of film between the image gate and the recording head.

  • Patent number: 3999479
Abstract: A horizontal dyestuff-supply tube within a cylindrical printing screen supports a prismatic applicator housing whose bottom is formed from two transversely spaced angle profiles for the guidance of a vertically movable distributing member. The latter is in the shape of a block with a multiplicity of vertical passages terminating at its underside in a discharge slot, the block penetrating upwardly into the applicator housing and supporting a perforated slack membrane of rubber or the like secured to the upper block surface and to the lateral inner bottom surfaces of the housing to form aprons preventing the penetration of dyestuff along the guide surfaces of the angle profiles. These profiles may be interconnected by transverse bolts passing through vertical clearances formed in the distributing member between its passages.

  • Patent number: 3999414
Abstract: A lock assembly has a housing in which is provided a cylinder lock having a shell fixed in the housing and a plug rotatable in the shell by means of a key. A tongue is carried on and jointly rotatable with the plug and is formed with a plurality of bittings each engageable with a respective tumbler in the housing and displaceable into an aligned position. A locking element such as a bolt is engageable with the tumblers and is only displaceable between a locked and unlocked position when the tumblers are in the aligned position. The tongue is formed of a plurality of plates each constituting a respective one of the bittings. Thus even if the cylinder lock is forcibly ripped out of the assembly a tumbler-type lock structure is left within that cannot readily be overcome to allow operation of the locking element.

  • Patent number: 3999370
Abstract: An electronic timepiece has an oscillator whose frequency varies with temperature and whose output is fed through an adder to a time-count unit-signal former that divides this output and feeds it through a counter to a time display. A plurality of transistors are biased so as to switch between conductive and nonconductive states at different respective temperatures, this biasing being effected by means of one resistor or a string of series-connected resistors connected across a constant-voltage source. The transistors are connected to a converter which translates their changes of state into a coded digital signal which is combined with signals from the unit-signal former and fed to the adder to vary the oscillator output frequency in such a manner as to compensate for frequency variations caused by temperature change.
