  • Patent number: 4856804
Abstract: In a trailer train combination having a tractor, lead trailer and one or two more following trailers, an adjustable dolly under the front end of each following trailer provides for close coupling of the multiple trailers in end to end contact. Then the multiple trailers are lifted to inclined position causing the upper trailer or trailers to discharge its flowable contents out through the lower trailer in a self unloading operation. The dolly has a slidable fifth wheel assembly and self steering ground wheels which may be locked in straight forward positions. A cab controlled electric and pneumatic control system controls these and other functions in the dolly. The trailers may be equipped with walking floors for self unloading in level positions.

  • Patent number: 4854448
Abstract: A child proof container for storing dangerous articles such as medicines, poisons, hand guns, knives and the like. The container comprises wall structure defining a receptacle and an access opening. A closure provided with a finger hole is mounted across the opening. Finger operated latch means interconnect the closure member and the wall structure. The latch means is positioned apart from the finger hole a spaced distance predetermined to prevent latch operation by short fingered individuals.A combination finger guide and baffle is mounted on the closure member for guiding the finger into latching engagement and also for shielding the receptacle contents from finger contact. A mounting for the latch mounts the latter adjustably in selected positions toward or away from the finger hole as required to adjust the spaced distance therebetween to the finger length of the operator.

  • Patent number: 4840392
Abstract: A trailer hitch guide provides a temporary, removable V-shaped fence partly embracing a hitch ball for guiding a trailer tongue into place to fit over the ball. The guide is provided as an attachment made up in part of a flat plate having a central opening for accommodating the hitch ball, and this opening is elongated fore and aft to enable selective positioning of the plate relative to the ball so as to assure a proper location of the other part, which is a hitch fence mountable on the plate. Attachment of the fence to the plate is effected by downwardly and rearwardly directed studs on the fence that removably fit openings in the plate, the shape of the studs counteracting the forward thrust of the trailer tongue during hitching and also enabling easy mounting and dismounting of the fence to and from the plate, which remains on the towing vehicle hitch structure as by welding or attaching bolts.

  • Patent number: 4832296
Abstract: A giant tripod assembly for long-range laser beam generators used particularly for controlling from a remote station the operation of grading machines, scrapers, mining equipment or the like. The tripod may be as much as 12 or 15 feet high. It mounts the laser unit at its upper end where the generated beam lies above the plane of intervening vehicles and other obstructions and hence may be transmitted over a range of as much as 1500 ft or more. The control for adjusting the direction of transmission of the laser beam is mounted an appropriate distance downwardly of the laser beam generator to render it accessible to persons standing on the ground.

  • Patent number: 4819622
Abstract: An orthopedic cervical support collar comprising a piece of thick, absorbent cloth material folded lengthwise to form an elongated, multi-ply pad having a length sufficient to encircle the neck and provide an overlap. Stitching through the cloth plies, or other suitable ply interengaging means, maintains the plies in a flat, pad-forming condition. Releasable fastening means such as burr type ("Velcro") fasteners are mounted on the pad in the area of the overlap for releasably fastening together the overlapped pad ends when mounting the pad collar-wise on the neck of the user.A method of making the collar from a length of toweling or other thick, absorbent cloth material also is provided.

  • Patent number: 4810657
Abstract: Multiple sclerosis and other diseases are diagnosed by first coating a plasm protein-adsorbing surface with a patient's blood plasm protein in an electrolyte fluid, and measuring the streaming potential of the protein-coated surface. Next, a challenge material such as a fatty acid having from 6 to 24 carbon atoms is added to the protein in electrolyte fluid mixture to alter the electro-kinetic potential of the adsorbed blood plasm protein layer. The streaming potential of the altered layer then is measured. The streaming potential results thus obtained are compared with measurements of the streaming potential characteristic of a surface similarly treated, but using normal blood plasma protein.

  • Patent number: 4804367
Abstract: A suspendable, thermally insulating jacket for I.V. fluid bags. The jacket comprises a sheet of thermally insulating material enclosing the bag as it is applied in sick room use. A bag support hook and straps on the jacket support the I.V. bag within the sheet when the latter is in its bag-enclosing condition. A jacket support loop on the jacket support it on the I.V. pole or other support in the sick room. The jacket accordingly provides for maintaining the fluid contents of the I.V. bag at the desired temperature as they are administered to the patient.
