  • Patent number: 4430052
Abstract: A belling mandrel assembly for forming in the end of a plastic pipe a belled socket having therein an annular seal pocket. A lip mold for forming the lip of the socket and a base mold for forming the base of the socket are operable to press a plurality of form block segments trapped between them. Upon the application of such pressure, the form block segments expand to form an annular ring for molding an annular seal pocket in the socket. Upon widening the distance between the lip mold and the base mold the form block segments retract to allow the mandrel to be withdrawn from the belled socket.

  • Patent number: 4414775
Abstract: A magnetic, kinetic amusement device is formed of a base, and a pair of magnetic members supported by resilient wire supports mounted on the base. The magnetic members are arranged separately in substantially vertical opposition to each other when in static condition but are mutually attractable into contact with each other, against the tension of their resilient wire supports, when moved into close proximity to each other by a prolonged oscillation induced by the opposing magnetic and resilient wire forces.

  • Patent number: 4401699
Abstract: A surface processing apparatus and method for painting or otherwise treating variously contoured surfaces. A track includes an elongated pliant beam to which a bending apparatus is attached for the purpose of conforming it to the contour of the surface to be processed. A carriage is mounted on the track for movement along the length thereof and in turn mounts a surface processing tool. The tool is operable to process a strip of the surface adjacent the track. Means is provided for moving the track incrementally along the surface, processing strips sequentially until the entire surface has been processed.

  • Patent number: 4393366
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for acquiring and recording an identification pattern from the reflectance of the fundus of an eye, a single light source is operable to produce a substantially columnar source beam of infrared light directed into the fixated eye from a plurality of sequential, angularly divergent positions. The light is focused on the retina and reflected in part out of the eye. Variations in the ocular structure contribute to various reflected intensities. The intensity of the reflected light is detected, measured and recorded for each sequential angularly divergent position forming a unique and repeatable identification pattern, or "signature" for each individual.

  • Patent number: 4391295
Abstract: A hot water system in which a damped, gravity operated, check valve is interposed between the hot water heater and the hot water delivery pipe network. The valve opens when a tap is opened allowing hot water to pass into the pipes and to the tap. The valve is prevented from closing abruptly when the tap is closed by a close fitting cylinder which surrounds the valve piston and restricts fluid flow necessary for valve closure.

  • Patent number: 4367640
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for forming sheet metal ducts of varying conical configuration from pre-cut blanks having a baseline and element lines thereon. The apparatus comprises a frame supporting independent axially aligned feed rolls. Each roll is power driven by separate variable-speed motors providing for a different feed rate at each edge of the blank being formed. The driven sections of each feed roll are adjacent at the center of the axially aligned rolls. Idler rolls around the drive shaft form the remaining length of each roll. Corresponding segmented pinch rolls spaced axially at the center are arranged to pinch the blank to be formed against the feed rolls. Sensors are positioned between the spaced ends of the pinch rolls to detect the position of the blank baseline and the angularity of the element lines. The feed and pinch rolls are mounted on bases provided with bearings permitting axial shifting to maintain the blank baseline at the established position relative to the frame.
