  • Patent number: 4751580
Abstract: In a standby power supply for a television receiver, a rectifier arrangement, electrically nonisolated from a source of AC mains supply voltage, develops a first, nonisolated direct voltage that is present during both the on-state and the standby state of an on-off command signal generated by a remote control circuit. The primary winding of a standby transformer is coupled to the rectifier arrangement and to the AC voltage source for developing a second, nonisolated direct voltage of lower magnitude than the first direct voltage. The control circuit of a switched mode power supply is energized by the second direct voltage and is responsive to the on-off command signal for changing operation of the switched mode power supply between a standby mode and a run-mode. An electrically isolated secondary winding of the standby transformer develops a third direct voltage for energizing the remote control circuit during standby.

  • Patent number: 4737851
Abstract: A control circuit of a television receiver power supply is constructed using a plurality of transistors operating in a common base configuration. The base electrodes of each of the transistors is coupled to a common conductor rail line that maintains the collector currents in the transistors temperature compensated over a wide range of operating temperatures during normal operation power-up mode of the receiver. In a standby mode of the receiver, power dissipation in the transistors is reduced by applying an on/off control signal to the common conductor rail line that prevents the flow of the collector currents in each of the transistors. Consequently, the supply current requirement of the control circuit is reduced during the standby mode.

  • Patent number: 4737691
Abstract: The field rate of a video input signal is doubled by storing each field in a memory and recovering each stored fields twice so as to repeat each field and thus reduce flicker. To ensure that even fields overlay even fields, odd fields overlay odd fields and that all pairs of even and odd fields are interlaced, a timing unit provides a double field rate read control signal to the memory having a waveform that repeats on a two-field basis and supplies a double field rate vertical control signal to a vertical deflection generator having a waveform that is phase modulated and that repeats on a four-field basis. The vertical deflection generator has a constant retrace time and employs DC coupling, thereby avoiding raster shift which otherwise could occur as a result of the phase modulation.

  • Patent number: 4737881
Abstract: A degaussing circuit for a cathode ray tube, of a video display apparatus includes a resonating capacitor that is charged prior to degaussing. A degaussing coil is disposed about the cathode ray tube. An SCR, responsive to an on/off control signal, is turned on by a control switch for coupling the resonating capacitor to the degaussing coil in order to generate an AC, degaussing current in the coil having an amplitude that diminishes to a low amplitude during a degaussing interval. Positive feedback is used for speeding up the turn-on time of the control switch. A series pass transistor switch couples a source of a supply voltage to a delay network. The series pass transistor switch is coupled in the current path of the current that is supplied by the power supply. An energizing voltage is developed at the output of the delay network.

  • Patent number: 4737669
Abstract: A control circuit having a slow-start section is enabled to carry out its expected, principal function(s) only after the voltage at the slow-start section input has reached a certain level. The system assures that a delay interval in control circuit operation is measured from the time devices within the circuit's internal voltage supply become effective to deliver voltage levels sufficient to allow the circuit to perform the principal function. A delay network is connected across a device of the internal voltage supply, which otherwise supplies an operating voltage level to the control circuit.

  • Patent number: 4734771
Abstract: A supply voltage is developed in accordance with an on/off control signal of a remote receiver during a start-up interval and during a power-up mode of operation of a television power supply. During a standby mode of operation, the supply voltage is switched off. The supply voltage produces a supply current in an oscillator that produces a signal at a horizontal rate related frequency. The supply voltage also produces a base drive current in a switching transistor of a horizontal driver only during the start-up interval. During a power-up mode, a run supply voltage is coupled to the oscillator and to the driver.

  • Patent number: 4734620
Abstract: First and second capacitors are charged prior to a degaussing interval. A first switch couples the first capacitor to a degaussing coil to initiate the degaussing interval. The first capacitor and the degaussing coil form a resonant circuit that resonates to generate a decaying degaussing current. During a predetermined portion of each cycle of the degaussing current, a second switch couples a precharged second capacitor in parallel with the first capacitor to form a charge transfer arrangement that transfers charge from the second to the first capacitor for replenishing energy losses in the first capacitor. The charge transfer arrangement increases the duration of the time it takes to the amplitude of the degaussing current to decay and, hence, the length of the degaussing interval.

  • Patent number: 4731864
Abstract: A camera field-of-view is mapped with full depth-of-focus into electronic memory. Data concerning image intensities at selected points in image space are stored, along with data concerning the distances between the camera and these points in image space. Images with any focus and depth-of-focus can be generated by scanning the electronic memory during a reading thereof and convolving the data concerning image intensity with an adjustable-bandwidth low-pass spatial filter. The bandwidth of that filter is adjusted dependent on the data concerning distances between camera and points in image space. This image storage and image retrieval procedure conserves the size of electronic memory required to store and retrieve images with any focus and depth-of-focus.
