  • Patent number: 5708712
Abstract: The invention provides a vehicle security device utilizing a rapid encryption method which operates on the basis of a "one-way function" and which requires storage in the vehicle of at most one item of secret coded information in a single piece of equipment, out of any desired number of pieces of equipment involved in vehicle security. In all such pieces of equipment only the one-way function values corresponding to inverse images stored in a key unit need to be present, the reading out of the said one-way function values making unauthorized manufacture of a copied key impossible. Security against interception and storage of information transmitted at the key end in order to produce copied keys is ensured by including an item of random information, transmitted at the vehicle end, in this authentication information.

  • Patent number: 5707077
Abstract: A three-dimensional acceleration sensor capable of detecting a small acceleration value and even an acceleration value amounting up to 100 G occurring in the event of a collision has a diaphragm for linking a frame and a massive part, and diaphragms and beams for linking the massive part and a central part. These elements are formed by working a single crystalline silicon plate. Gaps between the massive part and opposing electrodes are changed by acceleration applied to the massive part. A circuit connected to terminals detects the changes in gaps as changes in capacitances and determines direction and level of the applied acceleration.

  • Patent number: 5707455
Abstract: An automated cleaning method is provided for an exterior wall of a building. Elongated, water-tight or electrically-insulating hollow members are accommodated within upper and lower sash rails constructing said exterior wall so that said hollow members continuously extend in horizontal directions, respectively. An electrical conductor extends in one of the hollow members. The other hollow member forms a drainage. A cleaning apparatus main unit is arranged so that said cleaning apparatus main unit is supplied with electric power through said conductor to permit self-travelling in a horizontal direction along said exterior wall and is also supplied with washing water from said drainage to permit cleaning of a surface of said exterior wall. The washing water is drained into said drainage subsequent to the cleaning by said cleaning apparatus main unit. The washing water can be recirculated for reuse.

  • Patent number: 5704096
Abstract: In the case of a drafting arrangement for a spinning machine, at least one drafting zone has a sliver guide with a guiding surface for the travelling sliver. The sliver guide is arranged in a wedge-shaped gap, which is formed by a roller pair downstream of the drafting zone. According to the present invention, the sliver guide comprises a sliver brake with a pressing element which slides on the sliver. The pressing element is resilient with a pressure in the direction towards the guiding surface, and is disposable against the travelling sliver. The evenness of the drafting is thereby improved.

  • Patent number: 5705744
Abstract: A method checks a vehicle brake system rapidly and reproducibly to measure the correlation between the brake pedal travel and the retardation produced. A test-bed routine is called up in the control unit. During the operation of the test-bed routine, the functioning of the brake system is checked. For this purpose, a pressure difference is produced in the vacuum brake booster. The brake booster pressure difference produces a brake pressure in the brake master cylinder, and a pedal travel corresponding to this brake pressure simultaneously arises. The retardation can either be measured at the rollers of the test bed or is derived from continuously measured wheel speed values. A retardation value can be determined for each wheel as can a correlation between the pedal travel and the retardation from the measured values in the presence of different brake booster pressure difference. The process can average the values measured at the individual wheels.

  • Patent number: 5702067
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the angular momentum vector of a satellite, located in an external magnetic field, relative to a satellite-integral orthogonal system of coordinates. The satellite has a torque generating system to generate pulse-shaped torques around all three axes. A magnetometer measuring on three axes is used, whose measured values are fed to a computer. In the latter, at successive points in time and using the current measured values, an observer equation is integrated, with new estimated values being determined for the angular momentum vector. Using these as well as the current measured values, an inequality is continuously checked; when it is not fulfilled, the torque generating system operates briefly, so that finally the fulfillment of the inequality is forced and identity of the last estimated value that has been determined with the rotary pulse vector to be determined is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5702150
Abstract: A convertible has a stationary rollover bar on which a wind deflecting device can be fixed. In order to ensure, on the one hand, a good operation of the rollover bar and the wind deflecting device and, on the other hand, to not negatively influence the stylistic overall appearance of an open vehicle as a result of the rollover bar and the wind deflecting device, it is provided that the rollover bar comprises a tube section which extends approximately at the level of the belt line and in the transverse direction of the vehicle, bar sections which project upwards in laterally exterior areas leading away from the tube section. The wind deflecting device is composed of a center part and two lateral parts, the lateral part being inserted into the openings of the bar sections and the center part being inserted into the cutout of the rollover bar bounded by the bar sections and the transversely extending tube section.
