  • Patent number: 4438516
Abstract: An improved holder assembly for self-baking electrodes in an electrothermal smelting furnace comprises a plurality of contact clamps which are pressed towards the electrode by hydraulic presses between the clamps and a cylindrical body arranged externally around the clamps. The holder assembly is further equipped with means for conducting current, coolant and/or pressure agent to the contact clamps. The contact clamps extend at least up to the zone where the raw, unbaked electrode paste is unaffected by the heat from the smelting furnace. The cylindrical body extends up from the area of the presses. The cylindrical body is slidably arranged with respect to the contact clamps. Each of the contact clamps is separately suspended and may be moved individually with respect to each other and with respect to the surrounding cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 4435817
Abstract: The disclosed invention is an apparatus for connecting two current conducting tubes, which also conduct fluids such as for example, a coolant. The connection apparatus conducts current from one tube to the other through a sleeve, the said tubes having a machined external surface against which the sleeve is pressed. A hose receiving hydraulic pressure is disposed between the sleeve and an external casing for providing a removable pressure against the sleeve for clamping the pipes in the sleeve. The present invention may be used in conjunction with a holder assembly for electrodes in an electrothermal smelting furnace.

  • Patent number: 4424584
Abstract: The present invention relates to an electrode holder assembly for self-baking electrodes in an electrothermic smelting furnace. The electrode comprises an electrode casing having vertical fins projecting radially outwards from the casing. A plurality of clamping means are slidably arranged on said fins. The clamping means function both as means for conducting current into the electrode and as means for holding the electrode in position. The clamping means impose only tangentially forces on to the electrode in the baking zone. Protection shields are preferably arranged in lateral direction around the electrode, the shields being arranged between the clamping means or outside. Means for supplying air/gas into the space between the shields and the electrode in order to improve the baking conditions are provided.

  • Patent number: 4421616
Abstract: Selective extraction of zinc from chloride solutions which contain iron, copper and zinc, where the zinc is extracted in organic phase by means of tri-n-butylphosphate in an organic solvent. The extraction is carried out on chloride solutions in which the lead contents is possibly lowered and where the copper contents is maximum 50 grams per liter higher copper concentration being reduced for instance by electrolysis in diaphragm cell. The zinc containing organic phase is washed, and zinc back-extracted and conducted to a diaphragm cell for electrolysis of zinc, the used electrolyte being returned to the back-extraction step. • Patent number: 4416718
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for making a thermoplastic polymer sheet and particularly a thermoplastic polymer netting structure. It further relates to a process and apparatus for splitting a thermoplastic polymer sheet or net structure so as to divide the sheet or net at the center thereof into two thin sheets. According to the invention, a previously formed plastic sheet or netting structure is reheated and then placed between two opposed heated smooth surfaces such as metal rolls. The sheet or net is heated to a temperature within the range of temperatures wherein the adhesion of the resin forming the sheet to the metal rolls is good and where its cohesion is poor. The opposed faces of the sheet or net structure adhere to the heated smooth surfaces. The opposed heated surfaces are separated; this causes the sheet or net to split in half to follow each surface.
