Abstract: The present invention is directed to a chlorine dioxide generation apparatus and a method of generating chlorine dioxide using the apparatus. The novel apparatus includes a generation vessel having leak-inhibiting solvent weld joints with reducing couplings which form an inlet and outlet. The reducing couplings advantageously have surfaces which form an angle of at least 110.degree. with the vessel walls to create a geometry which prevents chemicals buildup during operation of the apparatus.
Abstract: An improved process for oxidizing vat or sulfur dyes is provided wherein the reduced form of the dye is oxidized by contact with an aqueous oxidizing agent containing in combination (a) an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium bromate or iodate and (b) an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium vanadate, at least one of which is an alkaline earth metal salt.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibiting compositions are described which contain a hydrazine compound and an organometallic complex. The organometallic complex is the reaction product of a cobaltous, manganous, or cupric inorganic salt and one or more ortho aromatic ligands containing at least two hydroxy or two amino functional groups or at least one amino and one hydroxy group. The use of these compositions as oxygen scavengers in corrosive environments is also described.
Abstract: An improvement is disclosed in the oxidation of reduced vat and sulfur dyes to develop their color and improve its fastness in dyed textiles. The improvement is in using an alkali metal bromite as an oxidizing agent for these dyes.
Abstract: Polyether polyols and polyurethane foams are stabilized by the inclusion therein of a mixture of 2,6-di-tertiarybutyl-4-methyl phenol, a disubstituted diphenyl amine, and a select phenothiazine compound.
Abstract: Novel glycol soluble molybdenum catalysts and a method of preparing them are described. The catalysts, which are useful in epoxidation reactions, are prepared by reacting an oxygen-containing molybdenum compound, an amine, and an alkylene glycol, at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: Hydroxyoxetanes of the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R' are each selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
Abstract: A prepolymer of a polymeric isocyanate and a halogenated polyol is used in generating polyurethane foam by means of a portable foaming apparatus. Such prepolymers retain the frothing agent adequately, have improved stability and exhibit practically no crystallization or viscosity increase on storage.
Abstract: 2-Amino-5-halobenzotrifluorides are prepared to the virtual exclusion of other monohalogenated isomers by halogenating an aminobenzotrifluoride with a hydrohalide acid in the presence of selected oxidants.
Abstract: An improvement is disclosed in the preparation of hydrophilic polyurethane foams. The improvement comprises employing, as the polyol reactant used in making the foam, a mixture of selected oxyalkylated polyhydric alcohols. The resulting foam has improved wet strength properties and is particularly useful in cleaning and similar applications.

Abstract: An improved epoxy resin composition is disclosed which incorporates a select group of chlorine-containing polyols. The improved composition is used as an adhesive and in various other applications.
Abstract: An improved epoxy resin composition is disclosed which incorporates 4,4,4-trichloro-1,2-epoxybutane. The improved composition is used in various coating and molding applications.
Abstract: Selected 5-substituted-2-fluoroanilines, useful in preparing dyes and herbicides, are prepared by reacting a selected 3-substituted nitrobenzene with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and a deoxygenating agent at a temperature of 0.degree.-300.degree. C. under a pressure of 15 to 3000 p.s.i.a. Substituents in the 3 position include hydroxyl and lower alkoxyl groups.
Abstract: Tungsten hexafluoride is prepared by reacting selected tungsten compounds with a halogen and hydrogen fluoride at elevated temperature and pressure under substantially anhydrous conditions in the substantial absence of air.
Abstract: An improved process is disclosed for the manufacture of perchloromethyl mercaptan by chlorination of carbon disulfide in the presence of aqueous hydrochloric and sulfuric acids in which a high concentration of sulfuric acid is maintained in the reactor to obtain an aqueous by-product acid mixture from which sulfuric and hydrochloric acids may be separated by a simple distillation to give commercial grade hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid.
Abstract: Novel alkoxysilane cluster compounds are described having the formulaM {OSi[OSi(OR')3}.sub.aorM {OSiR[OSi(OR')3]2}.sub.awherein a = 2, 3 or 4; M is a substituted or unsubstituted branched or straight chain hydrocarbon di-, tri- or tetraradical having up to 25 carbon atoms; R is hydrogen, an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl group and each R' is independently selected from the same group as R with the proviso that at least a majority of R' radicals are sterically hindered alkyl groups having at least 3 carbon atoms. The preparation of these novel alkoxysilane cluster compounds is also described.
Abstract: 1-Phosphorosemicarbazides having the formula ##EQU1## are effective and durable additives for reducing the combustibility of cotton fabrics to which they are applied.
