  • Patent number: 6884103
Abstract: A lamp base and mating socket locking to prevent axial separation. A lamp base has a locking bridge with arms extending between pairs of contact pins spaced a distance from a surface of the lamp base forming a gap. The contact pins and locking bridge extend through an opening in the socket. Upon rotating the lamp base relative to the socket, locking lands extend under the arms of the locking bridge in the gap preventing unintentional axial separation between the lamp base and the socket. In one embodiment, a key notch is formed in one of the arms of the locking bridge and a mating key pin is formed on the lamp base. The present invention is particularly suited to environments susceptible to vibration or movement; for example, in the treatment of wastewater.

  • Patent number: 6877983
Abstract: A dental capsule for extruding high viscosity dental material providing reduced extrusion force. The dental capsule comprises a body portion, a transition portion and a discharge portion. The transition portion has an axis having an angular relationship with the axis of the body portion and the axis of the discharge portion. This relationship and transitional portion reduces the extrusion force required in extruding high viscosity dental material. In another embodiment of the present invention, a flexible piston having a conical front end is utilized to more fully extrude the dental material from the dental capsule. The dental capsule may have flexible walls with the flexible piston and walls cooperating to extrude substantially all of the dental material. The present invention, when used with high viscosity dental materials, results in less extrusion force required and does not damage the dental material during extrusion.

  • Patent number: 6875988
Abstract: A germicidal lamp having a non-uniform contour increasing turbulence. An ultraviolet fluorescent lamp used in a purification system having a helical groove increasing turbulence of the fluid flow. The non-uniform contour may be placed directly on the tubular envelope forming the lamp or may be formed on a separate envelope enclosing a conventional cylindrical tubular germicidal lamp. The germicidal lamp having a non-uniform contour when placed in a fluid flow, such as water or air, creates turbulence, which improves the efficiency of the germicidal action. Smaller, more efficient purification systems requiring less exposure time are obtained.

  • Patent number: 6872419
Abstract: A method or process for producing PZT films by using a Ti material having a broad allowable temperature range for providing a predetermined film composition, easily thermally deposited from Ti(OiPr)2(dibm)2 at a low substrate temperature of 450° C. or less in CVD. Starting materials are fed in a solution vaporization system. The starting materials, Ti (OiPr)2(dibm)2, used as a T1 source, and a combination of Pb(dpm)2-Zr(Oipr)(dpm)3-Ti(OiPr)2(dibm)2 in n-butyl acetate are vaporized and supplied at 200° C. The vaporized starting materials are fed into a chamber and subjected to CVD at a substrate temperature of 420° C. at 1 Torr in an oxygen atmosphere, whereby excellent PZT films can be produced. Ti(OiPr)2(dibm)2 has a melting point of 105° C., a high solubility and a vapor pressure of 1 Torr/150° C. and does not react with Pb(dpm)2, and a solution thereof in n-butyl acetate has a pot life of 3 months.

  • Patent number: 6862310
Abstract: A method is disclosed in which the principle of phase-coupling is used to stabilize the polarization of laser radiation emitted by a plurality of phase-coupled vertical cavity surface emitting laser elements. Due to a suitable coupling strength between adjacent VCSEL elements, the probability of polarization flips of VCSEL devices operated in the single mode region is zero or at least drastically reduced. Moreover, a VCSEL device is disclosed, comprising a polarization adjusting means for controlling the polarization direction of an arrangement of a plurality of phase-coupled VCSEL elements, wherein the polarization direction of each VCSEL element is substantially kept constant.

  • Patent number: 6824693
Abstract: An ultraviolet lamp used for creating ozone. An ultraviolet lamp is enclosed by a container having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end. An air flow containing molecular oxygen is created between the container and the ultraviolet lamp. A portion of the wavelength of the ultraviolet lamp is used for generating ozone. Another portion of the wavelength of the ultraviolet lamp is used to kill microorganisms or disinfect a fluid. The ozone generated may be released in the fluid, further purifying and deodorizing the fluid. The present invention combines the germicidal properties of a ultraviolet lamp with the deodorizing properties of ozone in a single device which may be used to purify water or other fluid.

  • Patent number: 6812639
Abstract: An end of life quenching device for a vapor lamp preventing damage to the lamp and socket structure. Mica is attached to a lead wire of a filament. As an emission material on the filament is consumed and the vapor lamp reaches the end of its life, the resulting increase in voltage causes an arc. The arc may extend down the lead wire. The hydrated OH group in the mica releases hydrogen, which extinguishes the arc within the vapor lamp. Damage is thereby prevented. The mica withstands the high pressing temperatures required in the manufacture of vapor lamps with quartz envelopes and used to generate ultraviolet radiation in germicidal applications.

  • Patent number: 6809468
Abstract: A cathode shield for a gas discharge lamp having a predetermined size hole proportional to the diameter of a cup and the diameter of the glass envelope of the gas discharge lamp. A conductive cup is placed around an electrode or a filament. The cup is covered with an insulator material having a hole therein. The diameter of the hole in the cover has a proportional relationship to the diameter of the envelope of the lamp and the diameter of the cup. The ratio of the diameter of the envelope and the hole in the cover ranges between 3.5 and 4.5. The ratio of the diameter of the cup and the hole in the cover ranges between 2.0 and 3.0. It has been determined that these ratios improve current loads without changing discharge characteristics. Additionally, lower temperature operation and starting is facilitated with increased service life. The cathode shield is particularly applicable to germicidal lamps used in water treatment due to the cooler starting and operating temperatures required.
