Abstract: A method of forming a discharge lamp and the resultant discharge lamp include providing an arc tube having first and second ends offset from a central arcuate or curvilinear portion of the discharge chamber formed between the arc tube ends. Electrodes extend from the first and second ends and at least partially into the discharge chamber which is locally substantially rotationally symmetric, i.e., substantially circular cross-section over a length thereof. Preferably, the arc tube and discharge chamber have a curvilinear conformation where the first and second ends are located below the central portion of the arc tube and associated discharge chamber in horizontal orientation during operation. Terminal ends of the electrodes preferably follow a local axis of the curvilinear conformation. The wall thickness of the discharge chamber may be alternatively constant or non-constant along a longitudinal extent thereof.
Abstract: A light source assembly and associated method of forming same includes a generally planar light emitting device having parallel first and second generally planar surfaces that are interconnected along a perimeter. A seal extends over at least a portion of the light emitting device. Further, a sidewall portion encloses the perimeter of a light emitting device, and a cover portion may extend over at least a portion of the light emitting device. The method includes folding perimeter edges of an enlarged backsheet, or providing a frame seal that is dimensioned so that perimeter edges may be folded over the light emitting device.

Abstract: A thin film transistor (TFT) structure is implemented. This embodiment is much less sensitive than conventional TFTs to alignment errors and substrate distortion. In such a configuration, there is no need to define gate features, so the layout is simplified. Moreover, the gate layer may be patterned by several inexpensive printing or non-printing methods.
Abstract: A method and device for the baseband process of space-time/space-frequency/spatial diversity transmitter in the SC-FDMA system, the device is characterized in that: 1) an encoding means is connected to the output end of the M-point DFT module; 2) a space-time encoding means, for encoding the corresponding symbol of at least two adjacent symbol sets, and outputting at least two data sets; each sub-carrier mapping means maps respectively each data set to the corresponding antenna, so that the mapped data satisfy the requirements: The symbols mapped on each antenna keep the same sequence as the M symbols outputted by the M-point DFT module; the mapped symbols keep the same sub-carrier interval; the M data of each mapped SC-FDMA symbol are the M outputted data of the DFT module, or the inverse of the M outputted data, or the complex conjugate of the M outputted data, or the inverse complex conjugate of the M outputted data.
Abstract: In accordance with one aspect of the present exemplary embodiment, an LED lamp is provided. In one embodiment, the LED lamp is made to be mounted in a traffic signal housing that includes other lamps, where the LED lamp can be red, yellow, green or another color and can represent a full ball aspect, an arrow aspect or another aspect. The LED lamp is adapted to be powered by an external power source and includes an input power circuit receiving an input voltage from the external power source. The input power circuit includes a power detection circuit that is adapted to determine a power state of the traffic LED lamp. The LED lamp further includes an LED load and a battery powered driving circuit. The battery power driving circuit drives the LED load if the power state of the LED lamp is in a power failure state.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an electro-optical device, wherein the device is a light source, for example an OLED. The OLED includes at least a substrate, a cathode, an anode, one or more organic light-emissive materials disposed between the cathode and anode, and a gradient refractive index film disposed on an external, light emitting surface of the device, for example on the substrate layer. Alternatively, the device may be constructed with the gradient refractive index film as the substrate, and/or the gradient refractive index film may be applied to more than one light-emitting surface of a device.
Abstract: A method for creating a differential gloss image includes providing first and second anisotropic halftone structures. The first and second anisotropic structures have different orientations. One of the first and second anisotropic structures is applied to image data in a first region of an image to be halftoned. The other of the first and second anisotropic structures may be applied to image data in a second region of an image to be halftoned. A mixture of the first and second anisotropic structures is applied to image data in a third region of the image to be halftoned, whereby when printed, the three regions each have a gloss characteristic which differs from that of the other two regions.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for generating a representation of an image which may be used in tasks such as classification, clustering, or similarity determination. An image, such as a scanned document, in which the pixel colorant values are quantized into a plurality of colorant quantization levels, is partitioned into regions, optionally at a plurality of different scales. For each region, a runlength histogram is computed, which may be a combination of sub-histograms for each of the colorant quantization levels and optionally each of plural directions. The runlength histograms, optionally normalized, can then be combined to generate a representation of the document image.

Abstract: A high intensity discharge light source includes an arc tube having a longitudinal axis and discharge chamber formed therein. The light source includes first and second electrodes having inner terminal ends spaced from one another along the longitudinal axis. Each electrode extends at least partially into the discharge chamber. The discharge chamber is deformed so that its internal geometry is substantially rotationally asymmetric about its longitudinal axis, and is substantially mirror-symmetric relative to a plane spanned by the longitudinal axis and by another transverse axis that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and is vertical in a horizontal arc tube orientation, as well as substantially mirror-symmetric relative to a central plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis.
Abstract: A low profile light comprises mating front and back housings (12, 14), between them defining the thickness of the light. An attachment is provided on the back housing, whereby the light is attachable to a base on which the light is to be mounted. A circuit board (16) mounts circuit elements (36) and interconnecting conductive tracks to which LED devices (28) are connected. The board is enclosed and sandwiched between said front and back housings. The front housing is transparent or translucent to transmit light emitted from the LED devices. The circuit elements and LED devices are arranged to be powered by AC mains electricity. The thickness of the light is no greater than 10% more than the sum of the thicknesses of said front and back housings and the maximum 15 dimension of a minimum power-rating two-core mains electricity power cable (18). That is, it is less than 10 mm thick.
