Abstract: To perform notes detection, candidate reference marks are identified in a document. A starting note zone is identified in the document. A pair of similar reference marks is identified from the candidate reference marks including a first reference mark in the note zone and a second reference mark outside the note zone. The document is marked up to indicate a note associated with the first and second reference marks.
Abstract: An illuminating device includes a light source including a lighting device, such as a solid state lighting device, which emits light, a phosphor material which converts at least a portion of the light emitted by the lighting device to light of a different wavelength. A controller adjusts a ratio of on time to off time of a current waveform supplied to the lighting device. This enables the color of light emitted by the light source to be controlled.

Abstract: The invention allows anonymization of user identifications associated with telecommunication traffic measurement data that is fast, secure, and easy to use with distributed traffic measurements. Acquired user identification is input as an initialization vector to a block cipher. The block cipher is executed in cipher-block chaining mode to output a ciphertext. The output ciphertext is provided for use as an anonymized user identification in place of the user identification in further processing of the telecommunication traffic measurement data.

Abstract: A system for switching on an electrical device includes a startup circuit for an associated electrical device. The electrical device has a main power circuit comprising first and second paths and a main switch for selectively connecting the electrical device with an associated power source. The startup circuit uses a pulse of electromagnetic energy transmitted wirelessly from an associated remote control device to form a third path, whereby power is supplied from the associated power source for actuating the main switch.
Abstract: A process or method for forming silane esters that is substantially free of oligomers. The process includes reacting an anhydrous salt of a carboxylic acid with a silane in a two phase reaction system. The silane comprises a halo-alkyl substituent. The two phase reaction system comprises a first solvent and a second solvent, wherein the second solvent is a solvent that is substantially non-miscible in the first solvent. An imaging member produced utilizing the silane esters so formed are also produced herein.
Abstract: Mobile terminals (2) for transmitting first signaling signals (11) according to first wireless technologies to first networks (3) and for transmitting second signaling signals (12) according to second wireless technologies to second networks (4), which first signaling signals (11) comprise first information for informing the first networks (3), which second signaling signals (12) comprise second information for informing the second networks (4), and which first and second wireless technologies are different from each other, get a better efficiency by letting the first signaling signals (11) comprise the first information and the second information. This way, the power consumption of the mobile terminals (2) is reduced and the signaling efficiency is increased. The first/second information comprises first/second location information and/or comprises first/second paging-response information.
Abstract: Control systems and methods are disclosed for controlling operation of movable systems in an automated process with a stationary system having a first control system component and at least one movable system having a second control system component, in which optical or other non-contacting signaling between the stationary and movable systems is used to ascertain whether a movable system is proximate the stationary system, and wireless communications is used to transfer control data between the systems while the non-contacting signal link is maintained.
Abstract: A risk of shock (ROS) protection circuit is disclosed, which comprises a capacitor that charges whenever there is a voltage between a ground on a lamp ballast and earth ground. If the capacitor exceeds a predetermined threshold voltage, the capacitor causes a gate to shunt current away from a tertiary winding in a control circuit, which in turn reduces impedance reflected by the tertiary winding back on to primary and secondary windings in the ballast circuit. The reduced reflected impedance causes the operating frequency of the ballast to increase, reducing the voltage between the ballast ground and earth ground until it is safe for human contact. In this manner, a human replacing a lamp connected to the ballast can be protected from shock despite a failure to disconnect the power to the lamp ballast prior to lamp replacement.
Abstract: A battery can be fabricated from a substrate including silicon. This allows the battery to be produced as an integrated unit. The battery includes an anode formed from an array of spaced elongated structures, such as pillars, which include silicon and which can be fabricated on the substrate. The battery also includes a cathode which can include lithium.

The envelope has a substantially spherical section for receiving the light-emitting body, and an elongated end section for receiving at least a part of the control gear components. The elongated end section is provided with a neck section. A substantially tubular neck-extension portion connects to an inner surface portion of and protruding from the neck section. The neck-extension portion is suitable for accommodating a remaining part of the control gear components. In a method for the manufacture of a glass outer envelope, a flare that is normally used in the manufacture of incandescent lamps is turned around by 180°, put into a skirted bulbous envelope, melted into the envelope while the skirt is detached and the flare is formed into a neck-extension portion. A self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp with the bulb-shaped outer envelope is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of validating the detection of a correlation peak between a signal transmitted by a plurality of navigation satellites and received by an RNSS satellite radio navigation receiver, said signal corresponding to a sum of signals each sent by a satellite and each modulated by a spread spectrum signal characteristic of said satellite and a local replica generated by said receiver of a spread spectrum signal characteristic of a satellite that is being looked for. Said method includes a step of determining the correlation function 3 as a function of time between said received signal and said local replica and further includes a step of comparing said correlation function 3 with the theoretical autocorrelation function 2 as a function of time of said spread spectrum signal characteristic of said satellite that is being looked for.
Abstract: Disclosed is a gene carrier composed of a hydrogen-bonding polymer having a polymer chain with hydrogen-bonding sites formed on the polymer chain, in which the polymer chain has a conformation similar to the conformation of a nucleic acid, and particularly, the polymer chain has helix parameters similar to the helix parameters of a nucleic acid of a helix structure. In a preferred embodiment, the hydrogen-bonding polymer is composed of ?-1,3-glucan such as schizophyllan. The carrier can be expected to be applied as a vector and a separator for nucleic acids because it is capable of interacting with a nucleic acid to form a complex with the nucleic acid and thus carrying the nucleic acid.
