  • Patent number: 7953031
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for enabling an apparatus having a wireless module mounted thereon to detect an access point while saving power consumption in a battery. An apparatus according to the present invention preferably has a system main body, a cover which covers a surface of the system main body, an antenna disposed to the cover, a lid sensor which detects that the cover is opened from the system main body and outputs a lid event signal, a wireless module which is connected with the antenna and detects an access point upon receiving a power, and a power supply module. This power supply module supplies the power to the wireless module in response to output of the lid event signal from the lid sensor. As a result, even if this portable computer is in an OFF state, the power is supplied to the wireless module when the cover is opened, thereby detecting an access point.

  • Patent number: 7953976
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for enabling a Pervasive Authentication Domain. A Pervasive Authentication Domain allows many registered Pervasive Devices to obtain authentication credentials from a single Personal Authentication Gateway and to use these credentials on behalf of users to enable additional capabilities for the devices. It provides an arrangement for a user to store credentials in one device (the Personal Authentication Gateway), and then make use of those credentials from many authorized Pervasive Devices without re-entering the credentials. It provides a convenient way for a user to share credentials among many devices, particularly when it is not convenient to enter credentials as in a smart wristwatch environment. It further provides an arrangement for disabling access to credentials to devices that appear to be far from the Personal Authentication Gateway as measured by metrics such as communications signal strengths.

  • Patent number: 7945291
Abstract: A computer system is provided with an antenna which disables inappropriate wireless communications when a communication controller is inconsistently connected with the antenna. The computer having a diversity antenna connected to a detachable wireless LAN card containing a controller for providing wireless communication is mounted in a mini PCI slot, comprising a switch device for recognizing the identification information (ID) of the wireless LAN card to be mounted by BIOS executed on a CPU, in which the connection between the diversity antenna and the wireless LAN card is maintained in an off state (default) as an initial state in which the wireless LAN card is mounted, and the connection is enabled based on the identification information recognized by the BIOS.

  • Patent number: 7933740
Abstract: Arrangements and methods for performing structural clustering between different time series. Time series data relating to a plurality of time series is accepted, structural features relating to the time series data are ascertained, and at least one distance between different time series via employing the structural features is determined. The different time series may be partitioned into clusters based on the at least one distance, and/or the k closest matches to a given time series query based on the at least one distance may be returned.

  • Patent number: 7917916
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for removing the driver map component from being stored on the service partition and placing it on a server for retrieval at a later time. Only the actual device drivers that are required for that system will be provided. A central repository will be provided for applications and device drivers that would leverage the AMT area. The AMT IDE-R would be used to store the hook to network install, for example an IT administrator initiated network install to an unpowered system. Two situations exist in which this method will be used. The first situation involves supplying ImageUltra content to a system that is connected to the Local Area Network while ImageUltra is running. The second situation involves supplying ImageUltra content to a system that is not connected to the Local Area Network while ImageUltra is running.

  • Patent number: 7895392
Abstract: Color-based caching allows each cache line to be distinguished by a specific color, and enables the manipulation of cache behavior based upon the colors of the cache lines. When multiple threads are able to share a cache, effective cache management is critical to overall performance. Color-based caching provides an effective method to better utilize a cache and avoid unnecessary cache thrashing and/or pollution. The color based caching can be monitored to improve memory performance and guarantee Quality-Of-Service of cache utilization.

  • Patent number: 7894186
Abstract: A computer cover retention bar (or lock bar) is provided that is functionally integrated with a padlock and/or Kensington lock setup in such a way that full closure via the padlock and/or Kensington lock will ensure that the retention bar, itself provided with detents or hooks that themselves act to keep the cover fully closed with respect to a chassis or body of the desktop or workstation, cannot be moved. This then ensures that the locking action of a padlock or Kensington lock goes a measure beyond the norm, in that a cover can indeed remain fully closed without, e.g., affording unauthorized individuals from prying open the cover.

  • Patent number: 7887941
Abstract: Provision of an extension-type battery pack which is improved in safety thereof against dropping and impact application. Although a battery pack is susceptible to damage caused by an impact since partial battery cells are located outside the outline of a notebook PC when it is mounted on the notebook PC, the battery pack is provided with a partition wall structure including an air space and a fireproof wall formed of a material which does not melt at a temperature of combustible gas discharged from a gas discharge valve of the respective battery cells. The material of the fireproof wall is preferably mica or the like. The partition wall structure can be provided between an inside battery compartment and an outside battery compartment of the battery pack or can be provided among other battery cells. This prevents fire spreading to other battery cells even if high-temperature combustible gas is discharged from a battery cell damaged by an impact or the like.

  • Patent number: 7882368
Abstract: In a method of publishing creative content to at least one local digital display device, a first unit of the creative content is stored on a first portable digital storage medium in an encrypted format. The digital replication is encrypted with a selected one of a plurality of private encryption keys. The first portable digital storage medium is transferred to the local digital display device. A preselected public key is entered into the local digital display device. The preselected public key corresponds to the selected one of the plurality of private encryption keys. At least a portion of the first unit of the creative content is decrypted by employing the public encryption key using a public key/private key decryption algorithm. The portion of the creative content is displayed on the local digital display device.

  • Patent number: 7822730
Abstract: Most recent research of scalable inductive learning on very large streaming dataset focuses on eliminating memory constraints and reducing the number of sequential data scans. However, state-of-the-art algorithms still require multiple scans over the data set and use sophisticated control mechanisms and data structures. There is discussed herein a general inductive learning framework that scans the dataset exactly once. Then, there is proposed an extension based on Hoeffding's inequality that scans the dataset less than once. The proposed frameworks are applicable to a wide range of inductive learners.
