  • Patent number: 4845552
Abstract: A solid state microscope for viewing and scanning microscopic objects. The solid state microscope has a light source with a condensor and diffusion filter. A moveable stage is provided to allow X, Y, Z plane displacements in order to scan objects under the microscope. There is an objective to magnify the image of the object and project this image onto a two dimensional solid state image sensor. The solid state image sensor sends signals to an analog-to-digital converter where the signals are digitized and sent to a frame memory. A monitor is used to display the image of the object as stored in frame memory. The present invention can be interfaced with a computer to allow for automatic focusing and scanning of an image. The computer also houses storage means to store images. Methods of scanning an object are also described. A prism element can be used to obtain spectral scans of an object. In another scanning method, a first edge row of pixels is used to detect an object of interest in the scanned image.

  • Patent number: 4844825
Abstract: It is known to use chlorinated paraffins as an extreme pressure lubricant additive in lubricating metals. Such additives are highly corrosive, however, and for that reason are not suitable for a number of uses, such as in the lubrication of internal combustion engines. The present invention overcomes the corrosive problems of the previous chlorinated paraffin additives. The present invention involves the mixing of a substantial portion of chlorinated paraffins with a smaller portion of an alkaline earth metal sulfonate, such as calcium or barium sulfonate, and preferably a base mineral oil and solvent. The resulting additive can be added to standard motor oil to improve its extreme pressure performance in internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 4828212
Abstract: This invention relates to a collet assembly for adjusting the height of a seat supported by a threaded seat-support spindle. The collet assembly comprises a resilient threaded collet sleeve having slits extending from the base of its threaded core to form resilient jaws and a bell surrounding the core. The assembly also includes a collet jaw seat having an internal tapered jaw seating surface supporting inwardly directed projections. The collet sleeve is threaded to the spindle and the jaw seat is pushed onto the spindle below the collet sleeve so that the jaws of the sleeve rest against the seating surface of the collet jaw seat and the projections on the seating surface project into the slits of the collet sleeve to prevent relative rotation between the sleeve and jaw seat. When the seat is unloaded the bell of the collet sleeve may be grasped by an operator to permit the spindle to be rotated with respect to the bell.

  • Patent number: 4825909
Abstract: A high pressure hydraulic flow control valve is formed with a spool which is capable of operating as a conventional spool to control the flow of fluid from an input port to an output port or to a return port. The spool also provides overload protection which will permit fluid to pass from the input port directly to the return port when an overload pressure condition exists in the fluid supply line. In alternative structure, the overload pressure release system may be incorporated into the valve which is used to control the return of fluid from the output port to the return passage. The high pressure hydraulic flow control valve is formed from a die-cast housing and has hardened seats mounted in access passages so as to bear against a seating shoulder. Preferably, a retaining sleeve is mounted in the access passage to bear against the hardened seat to retain it against the seating shoulder.
