Abstract: This invention discloses an apparatus for cutting tubular objects such as rubber hoses and the like. It comprises a cutting blade movably positioned within a main body and includes a first and second actuator. A retainer is used to hold the tubular object before the cutting blade. The first actuator is secured to the cutting blade and the second to the retainer. Upon securing a tubular object in said retainer, the first actuator is activated thereby allowing the cutting blade to sever the object.

Abstract: Integral, elongated panels have sets of converging corrugations arranged on lines defined by folded, transversely triangular elements. These elements extend laterally across the panel, and are dimensioned such that a pair of adjacent parallel side edges of two corresponding panels can mate. Preferably, each corrugation has a planar element arranged on lines generally perpendicular to the side edge defining congruent elements with triangular faces meeting at the apex.By such arrangement, a panel is obtained which in conjunction with other such panels, can produce a curved surface, which curvature may be reversed in direction in any point along a structure surface, by inverting the next adjacent series of panels.

Abstract: A universal tensioning device for blinds and shades comprises a U-shaped channel member which has oppositely disposed open ends which provide first and second access passages and a third access passage opening through the bottom wall of the channel member. A winding shaft is mounted for rotation in the side walls of the channel member and extends transversely across the channel directly above the third access passage. A ratchet wheel is provided at one end of the winding shaft and is located externally of a side wall of the channel. A socket is formed in the end of the winding shaft. A dog is pivotally mounted on the side wall of the channel member for movement into and out of engagement with the ratchet wheel. A biasing spring is provided for releaseably urging the dog toward the ratchet wheel. A pair of these tensioning devices are located in a chamber formed in the header rail of a venetian blind which also accommodates the slat angling mechanism and height adjustment mechanism.

Abstract: An improved fuel package comprising fuel pieces, a combustible moisture proof container for holding the fuel pieces in a specific shape, and combustible binder/starter composition for binding together a large proportion of the fuel pieces into a stack within the container to promote combustion of the fuel pieces when the container is ignited.The invention is also directed toward a method of making the fuel package and hermetically sealing it.

Abstract: A feeder mechanism for feeding load items in a predetermined spaced relationship into a loading station of a carton loading machine comprises at least two conveyors which move at different speeds along the same path and elevator ramps on each of the conveyors. The primary conveyor has a forward run mounted for movement at a first predetermined speed in a forward direction. The forward run has an input end for receiving load items and it extends forwardly from the input end into a spacing station. The secondary conveyor has a forward run mounted for movement at a second speed in the forward direction which is faster than the first speed. At least a portion of the forward run of the second conveyor is located adjacent and coextensive with a portion of the forward run of the primary conveyor in the spacing station. A plurality of elevator ramps are mounted on the secondary conveyor at longitudinally spaced intervals therealong.

Abstract: A dispensing machine for use in dispensing publications such as magazines and newspapers is disclosed. It is comprised of a housing having a storage area for storing a plurality of publications, a cover for accessing the storage area, and an opening to allow the publication to be dispensed from the house. An adjustable support in the storage area is used for supporting the publications. A dispensing mechanism positioned above the support is adapted to dispense, through the opening, a publication. A mechanism is used for activating the dispensing mechanism and for adjusting the position of the support.

Abstract: A crushing apparatus has an hydraulic cylinder for actuating a toggle mechanism connected to a moveable jaw. The apparatus may have a main frame with an opening near the top of the frame for admitting material to be crushed. There is a first jaw connected to the frame on one side of the opening by a first pivotal connection near the top of the jaw. A first toggle mechanism is operatively associated with the first jaw. There may also be a second jaw connected to the frame on a side of the opening opposite the first jaw by a second pivotal connection near the bottom of the second jaw. A second toggle mechanism is operatively associated with the bottom mounted jaw. The crushing apparatus may have a toggle mount which is movable towards or away from the associated jaw.

Abstract: A paperboard mailing envelope of the type having an interlocking tongue and slot formed one on the closure flap and one on the back panel. The tongue and slot are adapted to interlock to prevent undetected withdrawal of the locking tongue from the slot. A detachable tear strip margin is provided on each of the front and back panels. The margins connect adjacent side edges of the front and back panels. The detachable tear strip margins are severable from their associated panels along weakened tear lines to provide an unloading opening through which the contents of the envelope may be removed.

Abstract: A process for preserving fresh fruit or vegetable products comprises the steps of; heating the fruit or vegetable product rapidly and uniformly to a temperature sufficient to destroy the natural enzymes which are present in the product without cooking the product, and immediately thereafter, cooling said product rapidly to a cold condition to remove the enzyme destroying heat before any significant cooking of the product can occur and to cool the product to a temperature which will inhibit deterioration of the freshness thereof. Shortly thereafter, while the product remains in said cold condition, it is placed in a sealed gas-type package.

Abstract: A machine for erecting, loading and closing an end loading carton. The machine has a dispenser station in which a knocked-down carton is removed from a storage magazine and deposited in the form of an open sleeve. A top closure station is provided in which the top closure flaps are folded along their hinge lines from their open position to their closed position. A collar flap tucking station is provided in which the collar flaps of the carton are folded inwardly. A loading station is provided in which load items are inserted through a loading opening in the top of the otherwise closed container. A load tamping station is provided in which the load items are tamped to permit the top closure flaps of the carton to assume a locking position with respect to the load item. A discharge station is provided in which loaded cartons are discharged from the carton support assemblies.

Abstract: A carton divider formed from an elongated unitary blank which is formed with a plurality of fold lines which extend from its upper edge toward its lower edge in a spaced relationship. The fold lines serve to divide the blank into first, transverse divider panels, a first side wall panel, a second transverse divider panel, a second side wall panel, a third transverse divider panel and a central handle panel. The blank being cut to form a second handle panel and a first glue flap which extends downwardly from the upper edge. The second handle panel has one edge hingedly connected to the second divider panel along one of the fold lines. The second handle panel has a length which matches that of the first handle panel. The first glue flap is hingedly connected to the second handle panel along one of the fold lines. The blank is cut to form a third handle panel and a second glue flap which extends downwardly from the upper edge. The third handle panel has one edge hingedly connected to the central handle panel.

Abstract: A frame assembly for a chair includes a base member, a seat support member and a backrest member. The front end of the seat support member is pivotally mounted on the front end of the base member a seat suspension spring is provided for the purposes of urging the seat support member to its elevated position. The seat suspension spring is mounted at a point spaced a substantial distance from the pivotal connection between the base and the seat support. Preferably, the suspension spring is a compression spring mounted rearwardly of and extending longitudinally of the backrest member so as to enjoy a substantial mechanical advantage.

Abstract: A window assembly comprises a prefabricated sheet metal main frame and a secondary frame suitable for use in supporting window units. A seat is formed in the main frame for seating the secondary frame in the window opening of the main frame. The seat has an entranceway opening laterally from a first side of the frame to permit lateral insertion or lateral removal of the secondary frame into and out of the seat through a first end of the window opening. A first stop is provided at the other side edge of the seat. The stop projects inwardly of the window opening and serves to prevent direct removal of the secondary frame from the seat through the other side of the window opening. A locking device is provided which fits within the other end of the window opening to cooperate with the main frame and the secondary frame to lock the secondary frame in the main frame when it is seated in the seat.

Abstract: A variable strength magnetic holding assembly as disclosed. It includes an attachment plate with a section made of magnetic material and a holding and support assembly adapted to magnetically hold the attachment plate thereon. An adjustment knob is used to vary the magnetic coupling between the attachment plate and the holding and support assembly.

Abstract: A method of forming the required body shell includes the steps of dispensing a coating of glass fibre reinforced resin onto the forming surface of a mold while moving the dispenser along successive longitudinally displaced U-shaped paths which traverse the forming surface to form a continuous coating covering the top and side forming walls of the mold cavity. The further step of compacting the coating by applying a compactor to the inner surface of the coating and moving the compactor along the same path as that followed by the dispenser at a point located downstream from the dispenser.

Abstract: In a grapple fixture which has a plurality of locating cam arms projecting from the front face of its base for the purpose of aligning it with a grapple device, there is provided the improvement wherein the cam arms are mounted for angular movement on the base, each cam arm being connected to a latch which is located at the back face of the base. The latch is connected to the cam arms so as to be rotatable with the cam arms into and out of a latch receptacle such that the latch is operable from the front face of the base.

Abstract: Apparatus to split a body in which the apparatus is received. The apparatus has a first metal component of a first coefficient of expansion and a second metal component of a second coefficient of expansion, different from the first. The second body is attached to the first body. Whereby heating the apparatus causes a marked distortion in the apparatus to exert force on a body in which it is received, sufficient to split the body.

Abstract: A portable, sun and wind shield having a flexible covering material and a collapsible frame for supporting said covering material is disclosed. The collapsible frame is comprised of at least two resilient support members secured at their respective ends by connecting means. An adjustable tensioning means is secured at the connecting means and is adapted to draw together the ends of the resilient support. The covering material is spanned between the resilient support members such that when the resilient support ends are drawn together and rotated in opposite direction about the connecting means, the covering material becomes tautly stretched.

Abstract: A cardboard container having a dispensing opening formed in the lower portion of its front wall through which articles can be withdrawn. The container has a bottom wall that is elevated from its lower end. The front portions of the lower edges of the side walls and the lower edge of the front wall overhanging the front edge of the bottom wall, whereby the bottom wall has an area less than the cross-sectional area container space above the bottom wall. When a stack of articles are housed in the container with the lowermost article resting on the bottom wall it will overhang the bottom wall in the area of the dispensing opening and can be manipulated from the underside of its overhanging portion and removed from the container through the dispensing opening from the container.
