  • Patent number: 5139945
Abstract: A method of producing algal cell wall degrading enzyme by cultivating a thermophilic, bacterial strain of an atypical Bacillus stearothermophilus e.g., W36-7-4 (NRRL B-18394) which produces the alginate lyase in a cultivation medium containing sodium alginate and tryptone, then allowing growth to take place to accumulate alginate lyase, and then recovering the enzyme from the fermentation broth. The novel alginate lyase of this invention is useful as a treatment agent for water cooling systems.

  • Patent number: 5106734
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling production of low molecular weight heparin (LMW-heparin) when depolymerizing heparin with heparinase in a reaction mixture in a reactor. Depolymerization to a desired average molecular weight is monitored by measuring an increase in UV-absorption (preferably at 230-235). When the absorption has reached a value for a desired molecular weight, the depolymerization is stopped or LMW-heparin having the desired molecular weight is continuously removed from the reaction mixture. In a preferred embodiment, the reaction mixture is subjected to ultrafiltration to produce a filtrate containing LMW-heparin, and a retentate which is recycled to the reactor. UV-absorption and refractive index of the filtrate are measured, and depolymerization is controlled in accordance with the measured absorption and refractive index to produce a filtrate containing a LMW-heparin of low polydispersity and predetermined molecular weight.

  • Patent number: 5072495
Abstract: The invention discloses an installation for the automatic assembly of the lower socket-bracket of opening leaves, i.e. the part of the fitting intended to be fixed to the lower corner of an opening leaf preferably of oscillating leaf type, in line with its vertical axis of rotation and transferring the weight of the leaf to a bearing embedded in the frame. The automatic installation is essentially formed of an installation 100 for equipping the socket, formed of workstations disposed about a rotary bed-plate and an installation 200 for the automatic assembly of the bracket on the socket formed of work stations disposed in a reference plane P--P. These two installations 100 and 200 are associated together via an automatic transfer mechanism 30.The invention makes possible the equipping and assembling of socket-brackets, completely automatically, all the operations following each other in a continuous flow.

  • Patent number: 5070916
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for receiving a molded carrier ring package and removing the electronic component from the surrounding ring while cutting and forming the leads of the component. The shear provides that leads on two opposite sides of a rectangulopiped component are cut just prior to the leads extending from the remaining two sides, during one stroke of the shear, such that the applied force required to cut all of the leads is reduced by acting on one-half of the leads at a time, and such that the applied forces are balanced on opposite sides of the component. Each of a punch and die is easily interchanged with a replacement, and a scrap remover is continuously adjustable during closing of the jaws thereof, so that it is a simple matter to change the tooling and otherwise accommodate devices of different sizes. Also, the apparatus provides for diverting the forces of the shearing and forming action from a shuttle for transporting the device so as to minimize wear and tear on it.

  • Patent number: 5069739
Abstract: An automatic machine for fitting seals, especially window or glazing unit seals, comprises a window frame feed, referencing and measuring mechanism, a support gantry, a system for paying out the seal and a seal fitting and cutting device. The seal fitting and cutting device comprises a frame, a gantry movable in translation on the frame and a carriage movable in translation on the gantry. A vertical shaft on the carriage is rotatable relative to the carriage. A manipulator head carried by this shaft carries a seal guide system, a seal cutting system and a seal fitting systems. A support plate is rotatable about a horizontal axis relative to the shaft and carries two units in turn carrying the seal guide, cutting and fitting systems. These two units are movable up and down in translation relative to the support plate.

  • Patent number: 5068509
Abstract: A high frequency thermode-driven device for use in hotbar soldering has a unitary metal support frame which is used for the secondaries of four individual transformers. The support frame also serves as the structural member to which the transformer and thermodes themselves are fastened. This is possible because the secondaries require only one turn; the upstanding ears of projections which extend radially outwardly from the support frame so as to protrude through the apertures in the transformer cores provide a source of voltage and become a secondary winding when connected to a load impedance, such as a thermode.

  • Patent number: 5060435
Abstract: The bracket anchors a hydro pole or a telephone pole vertically on rocky ground or on ground beneath which are sewer pipes or electrical conduits. The bracket consists of a number of pole-mounts each having a base which rests on the ground and an upright which contacts the pole. The pole-mounts are spaced about the circumference of the pole and are clamped to the pole by means of bands interconnected by links. The length of each link is adjustable to fit poles of various sizes.A leg extends downwardly from the pole-mount into a hole in the ground. The leg consists of a sleeve to which a number of wedges are connected. A bolt extends downwardly from the base of the pole-mount into the sleeve and mates threadably with a camming plug. Rotation of the bolt causes the plug to move upwardly into contact with the wedges and to force them outward into contact with the inside wall of the hole with resulting anchoring of the leg in the hole.
