Abstract: An automatic external defibrillator including: a sensor for detecting when a rescuer is delivering a CPR chest compression to the patient; electrodes for application to the thorax of the patient for delivering a defibrillation shock to the patient and for detecting an ECG signal; defibrillation circuitry for delivering a defibrillation shock to the electrodes; and a processor and associated memory for executing software that controls operation of the defibrillator. The software provides: ECG analysis for analyzing the ECG signal to determine if the cardiac rhythm is shockable; CPR detection for analyzing the output of the sensor to determine when a CPR chest compression has been delivered, and integration of the ECG analysis and CPR detection so that the determination of whether the cardiac rhythm is shockable is based only on time periods of the ECG signal during which there has not been a CPR chest compression delivered.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, can include transmitting data packets on multiple flows through a network to an endpoint in accordance with a congestion window where each flow is assigned a different priority level for transmission and a corresponding different congestion window adjustment technique for use with that flow, monitoring for acknowledgements in response to the transmitted data packets; determining, based on a result of the monitoring, a delivery status for one or more of the transmitted data packets that corresponds to one of the multiple flows; and adjusting, responsive to the determined delivery status for the one flow, the congestion window based on the delivery status and the congestion window adjustment technique corresponding to the one flow.
Abstract: System (50) for marking a fluid by a marker, the fluid flowing from a source to a destination, the system including a sensor (58) for determining a value of a fluid property and a fluid flow controller (54) for admitting a selected amount of the marker to the fluid, wherein the selected amount is determined according to the fluid value and a predetermined concentration of the marker in the fluid in the destination.

Abstract: A rotational atherectomy device for removing a stenotic tissue (330, 360) from a vessel (300) of a patient comprises a flexible hollow drive shaft (2) and an abrasive element (101, 102) mounted to the drive shaft proximal to and spaced from a solid support element (10, 10s) mounted at the distal end (6) of the drive shaft, the solid support element having a rounded outer surface and an outflow channel (20, 20s) with an outflow opening in said rounded outer surface. The drive shaft comprises a torque transmitting coil (4) and at least one fluid impermeable membrane (3) forming a fluid impermeable lumen for the antegrade flow (FF) of fluid into the outflow channel such that, during rotation of the drive shaft, a flow of fluid out of said outflow opening forms a fluid bearing between the rotating solid support element and the wall of the treated vessel.
Abstract: Scoring functions can be markedly improved by taking into account the status environs of ligand rings (or indeed other bulky rigid ligand structures) on the ligand when the ligand is complexed with the receptor. In its most general form, the invention features, quantifying a particular component of binding affinity between a ligand and a receptor molecule. Specifically, the component in question takes into account the spatial relationship between ligand ring structure(s) (or bulky rigid ligand structures) and their ambient surroundings when the ligand is bound to the receptor molecule. The method steps may be used when quantifying a component that reflects these particular ligand features alone, or the steps may be part of a comprehensive method of quantifying binding affinity which includes numerous other factors that relate to binding affinity in addition to the component.
Abstract: The plasma etching method includes: an etching step of placing, on a stage in a chamber, a substrate in which a prescribed mask pattern is formed by a protective film on a surface of a material to be etched, generating a plasma in the chamber while supplying processing gas to the chamber, and etching a portion of the material corresponding to an opening portion in the mask pattern; a voltage measurement step of, during the etching in the etching step, measuring a voltage at the surface of the material on a side where the mask pattern is formed, through a conductive member that is placed in contact with the surface of the material on the side where the mask pattern is formed; and a control step of controlling an etching condition in the etching step in accordance with a measurement result obtained in the voltage measurement step.
Abstract: The present invention provides polypeptides that contain one or more PDZ loop-variants and are useful in the detection of pathogens and disease-associated molecules. The polypeptides of the invention are also useful in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Also provided are methods of preparing polypeptides of the invention.
Abstract: To identify antigens of the 2D7 antibody, the present inventors cloned the 2D7 antigen. The results suggested that the 2D7 antigen is an HLA class I molecule. Based on this finding, the present inventors examined whether the 2D7 antibody has cell death-inducing activity. Nuclei fragmentation was observed when the 2D7 antibody was cross-linked with another antibody, indicating that cell-death was induced. Further, diabodies of the 2D7 antibody were found to have very strong cell death-inducing activities, even without the addition of another antibody. These results indicate that minibodies of an HLA-recognizing antibody can be used as cell death-inducing agents.

Abstract: Apparatus, techniques and systems for preventing illegal use of software and other digital files based on operations of a data storage device controller in a computer or computer system. For example, a method for preventing illegal use of software includes: configuring a computer to use a data storage device controller to control use of each digital file stored on one or more data storage devices; before a use of each digital file, operating the data storage device controller to access a storage device on which the digital file is stored to check whether the digital file meets a condition for use; and operating the data storage device controller to block use of the digital file when the condition is not met and to allow execution of the digital file when the condition is met. The digital file can be an application software or other digital documents.
Abstract: Systems and methods involve the use of a flash memory device having multiple flash memory cells. A first interface is adapted to receive power for selectively programming each flash memory cell. A second interface is adapted to receive power supplied to logic level circuitry to perform the selection of flash memory cells to be supplied with power from the first input during a write operation.

Abstract: A method performed in a wireless communication system having radio frequency burst transmission interference is presented. The method includes obtaining a first power level of noise and interference signals in an environment of at least one of a plurality of wireless communication devices serviced by an access point; and estimating a second power level by filtering the first power level.
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided an image processing device that performs brightness conversion processing according to a brightness conversion coefficient on each pixel of an input image and produces an output image. The image processing device includes a division section dividing the region of the input image into a plurality of areas and a histogram calculation section calculating a histogram for each area. Here, the brightness conversion coefficient is determined based on the result of calculation by the histogram calculation section. With this configuration, it is possible to obtain, even when there is a portion of an image having a brightness level (or a brightness range) of low frequency in terms of an entire image, satisfactory contrast for the entire image including such a portion.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for reusing a component. In one aspect, a method includes executing a source application in an application environment; presenting a reusable component in a source application window corresponding to the source application, wherein the reusable component is visibly distinguishable from one or more non-reusable components displayed in the source application window; receiving input selecting the reusable component in the source application window and adding the reusable component to a target application window corresponding to a target application; and inserting one or more computer-readable instructions associated with the reusable component into the target application. Further, input can be received to activate a reuse function associated with the source application.
