  • Patent number: 8352981
Abstract: The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a method that includes receiving at a television processing device an airing schedule for a specified advertisement. The airing schedule includes data specifying past airings of the specified advertisement, a local frequency at which the specified advertisement is to be shown, and a schedule of airings of replaceable advertisements. The device determines, from viewing log data, whether the local frequency for the specified advertisement has been achieved. If the local frequency has not been achieved, the specified advertisement is aired in place of a replaceable advertisement when the television processing device is tuned to a channel of a scheduled airing of the replaceable advertisement at a time of the scheduled airing, and the local frequency of the specified advertisement is incremented. Otherwise, the replaceable advertisement is presented.

  • Patent number: 8351355
Abstract: In a particular embodiment, interworking between an H.323 protocol and SIP protocol for a call forward/redirection is provided. A first user may call a second user. The second user may have set preferences that cause a call redirection/forward to another end device. The end device may be associated with the second user or another user. Different preferences for the call forward/redirection may be provided. For example, a call may be forwarded all the time, when the second end device is busy, when there is no answer, etc. The redirection may then be performed using a gateway. When end devices communicate using SIP and H.323, the gateway provides interworking to provide the call forward/redirection. For example, the gateway maps a 3xx message in SIP to an H.450.3 message in the H.323 protocol, and vice versa, to provide the call forward/redirection.

  • Patent number: 8347484
Abstract: A rotary actuator includes an outer enclosure having an inner diameter surrounding a hollow interior. A stack of stator laminations, each having a stator diameter greater than the inner diameter of the outer enclosure when in an unflexed state, are also included in the rotary actuator. Each of the stator laminations is configured to flex into a shape so as to be positionable within the outer enclosure and substantially conform to the inner diameter. • Patent number: 8350785
Abstract: In the case of reducing an effect of variations in current characteristics of transistors by inputting a signal current to a transistor in a pixel, a potential of a wiring is detected by using a precharge circuit. In the case where there is a difference between a predetermined potential and the potential of the wiring, a charge is supplied to the wiring to perform a precharge by charging rapidly. When the potential of the wiring reaches the predetermined potential, the supply of charge is stopped and a signal current only is supplied. Thus, a precharge is performed only in a period until the potential of the wiring reaches the predetermined potential, therefore, a precharge can be performed for an optimal period.

  • Patent number: 8348934
Abstract: A method and apparatus include determining a value of a parameter associated with operation of an electrosurgical probe having a particular probe design, and determining whether the value of the parameter is within a range of values that has been predetermined for the particular probe design to indicate that the probe is treating tissue in a desired manner. Power is delivered to the probe according to an algorithm based upon a determination that the value of the parameter is outside the range of values The algorithm delivers power in a pulsed profile including portions of low power and portions of high power. In one embodiment, the tissue treatment is ablation, the parameter is impedance, and the method limits tissue necrosis to less than 200 microns. In another embodiment, the tissue treatment is shrinkage, the parameter is temperature, and the method limits power delivery when the probe is not shrinking tissue.

  • Patent number: 8351012
Abstract: To control the positioning of a spacer more accurately in a liquid crystal display device to prevent display defects due to incorrect positioning in a display region. To provide a liquid crystal display device with higher image quality and reliability, and to provide a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device with high yield. In a liquid crystal display device, a region onto which a spherical spacer is discharged is subjected to liquid-repellent treatment in order to reduce the wettability with respect to a liquid in which the spherical spacer is dispersed. The liquid (the droplet) does not spread over the liquid-repellent region and is dried while moving the spherical spacer toward the center of the liquid. Thus, incorrect positioning shortly after discharging, which has been caused by the loss of control in the liquid, can be corrected by moving the spherical spacer while drying the liquid.

  • Patent number: 8352562
Abstract: A first computer system is monitored for alterations of a program landscape which includes multiple applications configured to operate on the first computer system. An alteration of the program landscape is detected and aspects of the alteration of the program landscape are determined. A catalog of additional computer systems which are associated with the first computer system is accessed. That a second computer system of the accessed catalog of additional computer systems should receive an event notification is determined. An event notification including information corresponding to the determined aspects of the alteration of the program landscape is generated. • Patent number: 8352395
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing techniques for training an attentional cascade. An attentional cascade is an ordered sequence of detector functions, where the detector functions are functions that examine a target image and return a positive result if the target image resembles an object of interest and a negative result if the target image does not resemble the object of interest. A positive result from one detector function leads to consideration of the target image by the next detector function, and a negative result from any detector function leads to rejection of the target image. The techniques include training each detector function in the attentional cascade in sequence starting with the first detector function. Training a detector function includes selecting a counter-example set. Selecting a counter-example set includes selecting only images that are at least a minimum difference from an example set.

  • Patent number: 8352576
Abstract: A server system stores media library associated with a user. The media library includes at least one media file. The server system determines whether the media file is stored on a second computing device that is able to send the media file to the first computing device across a local network connecting the first computing device and the second computing device. If the determination indicates that the media file is stored on a second computing device that is able to send the stored media file to the first computing device across a local network connecting the first computing device and the second computing device, the server system sends causes the second computing device to send the media file to the first computing device across the local network such that the first computing device is able to output the media file to the user.

  • Patent number: 8352510
Abstract: One or more data items of one or more types are received, wherein each data item is associated with one or more attributes, and wherein each attribute is associated with an attribute name and an attribute value. A key is calculated for each attribute, and a determination as to whether the key is located in a dictionary is made. The key is added to the dictionary based on the determination along with an attribute description, and a determination of a number of occurrences of one of the one or more items to the number of all the one or more items in a set is made. Based on this number of occurrences attributes are classified as either mandatory, expected or optional in the generated template for the corresponding info item type.
