  • Patent number: 4167432
Abstract: In a water mattress, a series of interior bags or bladders are individually attached to the top and bottom layers in order to damp the movement of water. Each bag or bladder comprises a pair of disks peripherally heat sealed together. The disks are respectively heat sealed to the top and bottom layers. The improvement consists of a method of attachment of the bags or bladders to the top and bottom layers. A removable floating ring die is inserted between the companion disks. Large area dielectric plates close about the disks and ring die. Seals are achieved with very little distortion of the top and bottom mattress layers. The floating die is removed. The process is repeated until all the bags or bladders are attached. The strength of the top and bottom layers is not significantly impaired by the welding process, since no localized stress regions are created there. The hazard of leakage is largely eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4159717
Abstract: When the regulator is stored, a removable spacer is interposed between the pressure sensing diaphragm and the regulator case in order to position the resilient closure of the demand valve away from its seat. The resilience of the unconfined closure causes it to assume its normal free configuration. A compression set, which would impair sealing capability, is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4157599
Abstract: A pair of hinges have cases mounted at the very corners of a cabinet opening to define a pivot axis for a door. The cases are relatively narrow in the direction from front to back but of significant size at the region of the corner whereby the cabinet is braced by the hinge cases. Quadrilateral links are pivoted by and extend frontally of the corresponding cabinet cases to move in spaced parallel planes without interference. The hinge leaves for the door have cases accommodated in slots at the back of the door that extend perpendicular to the pivot axis. These cases pivotally mount the other ends of the quadrilateral links for movement without interference. By virtue of the staggered arrangement, a door movement in excess of 90.degree. is readily provided. A spring for self closing operation is accommodated in the case for one of the hinge leaves.

  • Patent number: 4141770
Abstract: To achieve maximum strength and reliability, a bag for use as a waterbed mattress is formed entirely of lap welds, that is, without any butt welds. My U.S. Pat. No. 3,825,172 discloses a lap weld method in which a length of plastic material is rolled to form a tube, the ends being lapped and partially welded to leave an access opening to the inside of the bag. The tube is telescoped over a welding die having the cross sectional configuration of the mattress, but axially short. The tube is accordion folded about the thin form with the ends of the tube turned inwardly over the peripheral rims of the form. End pieces are then welded in place. The form is removed through the access opening and the partial weld completed by the aid of a separator stick removable through the fill hole.

  • Patent number: 4136675
Abstract: A solar collector comprises a series of absorber modules each formed as an extrusion that forms side-by-side flow channels. In one form of the invention, end plates close the flow channels at their ends, the ribs between the flow channels being cut away at their ends in order to define a sinuous flow path from the outside to the inside of the collector. The absorber modules are supported at the relatively low temperature sides adjacent the inlets, and with conductive engagement only with the bottom wall of the absorber.

  • Patent number: 4122726
Abstract: The lever mechanism includes an easy-to-clean cowl which covers the end of a fixture containing a mixing valve. A generally cylindrical fulcrum bracket, attached to the valve body, forms the topmost static element of the fixture. The cowl has a central cup that projects centrally into the fulcrum bracket. The mixing valve control stem is pivotally coupled to the bottom of this cup. A cowl skirt surrounds the fulcrum bracket. A fulcrum member, advantageously either a pin or a ball, is attached to the cowl interior and projects into an annular, outwardly opening receiving groove at the periphery of the fulcrum bracket. Tilting of the operating lever cowl moves the valve stem axially to control flow volume. During such tilting the fulcrum member moves radially in the receiving groove; this changes the location of the fulcrum point so as to prevent lateral displacement of the valve stem. Angular motion of the cowl imparts concomitant mixture controlling angular movement to the mixing valve stem.

  • Patent number: 4118846
Abstract: A burnishing attachment includes a carriage mounted for traversing movement in a path that extends along the workpiece. A non-rotary burnishing tool is mounted on said carriage for movement perpendicular to the carriage path. The tool is urged toward the rotating workpiece with a force that is a preset function of the position of the tool along the workpiece whereby the burnishing force adjusts to the appropriate amount. The tool is pivoted so that its surface maintains a normal relationship to the workpiece notwithstanding a change in angularity of the workpiece surface and the tool mounting.

  • Patent number: 4116013
Abstract: A weakened underwater section of deteriorating pile is provided with a concrete splint. One of two companion seal members is first installed below the weakened section. A split tubular form is then installed about the section. The lower end of the form provides the second of the companion seal members that engages beneath the first seal member. The form is supported from above as water is pumped from the form. The buoyant upthrust moves the companion sealing members into firm sealing engagement. After the suspension for the form is adjusted, concrete is poured into the nearly dry form. The concrete mix is not compromised by contamination with seawater and a structurally sound splint is formed.

  • Patent number: 4084598
Abstract: The collapsible shelter structure comprises a series of panels held in angularly spaced relationship to define a shelter structure. The framework of each panel comprises a pair of generally parallel bars held in spaced relationship by a single central strut. Corresponding ends of the bars are tied together by flexible means, such as a sheet of fabric, preventing the bars from moving out of parallel. The fabric is slightly stretched by the strut. Conveniently, a single bar is common to adjacent panels similarly formed. In order to determine the angularity of adjacent panels, each intermediate bar is provided with a link piloted on the central portion of the bar, the link having two angularly spaced rigid plugs, one detachably telescoped into the brace of one panel and the other detachably telescoped into the brace of the adjacent panel. A solid, but readily erected and collapsed shelter structure results.

  • Patent number: 4084474
Abstract: A multiband speaker system means includes a high frequency section normally balanced with one or more lower freqency sections. A thermistor is serially associated only with the high frequency section whereby, for certain high power signal combinations, a lesser proportionate increase in output occurs in the high frequency section than the low frequency section. This not only makes possible a lower power rating, but also eliminates certain effects that are not musically desirable.

  • Patent number: 4077068
Abstract: The diving mask incorporates a clamp operated from the outside for squeezing the diver's nostrils together so that he can then "clear his ears," which is the act of allowing, or gently forcing, air through the restriction of the eustachian tubes to equalize the inner ear pressure to that of the increasing ambient pressure. The elements of the clamp are movable in arcuate paths centered above the nostrils in order to achieve a comfortable closure. The handle ends of the clamp are conveniently accommodated in a flexible enlargement of the mask body. A wide strap has a four point quick attachment to the rear of the mask body. The strap is formed of adjustable looped elastic cord that adjusts comfortably to the diver's conformation while fully stabilizing the mask on the wearer's face.
