  • Patent number: 5149558
Abstract: A process whereby sweetened condensed milk (SCM) or sweetened condensed skimmed milk (SCSM) is used as a starting material. The SCM or SCSM is pumped to a stainless steel refrigerated holding tank where it is diluted to 50.degree.-65.degree. brix (solids) with water. The product is then pumped into a continuous vacuum dryer, through a deaerator to control foaming and then into a feed pan. A stainless steel feed roll rotates in the feed pan and pick up SCM or SCSM product which then deposits a uniform layer of the SCM or SCSM on a continuous stainless steel belt. The clearance between the feed roll and the stainless steel belt is 0.015 to 0.025 inches. The SCM or SCSM product then goes through three heat zones at which vapor is driven off. Heat zone 1 preconcentrates and degasses the SCM or SCSM. This increases the area and volume of product so that it can withstand rapid evaporation occurring in heat zone 2. Heat zone 2 includes a hot drum at which a major portion of the drying occurs.

  • Patent number: 5149659
Abstract: The concentration of molecular fluorine in a mixed gas such as an excimer laser gas can be determined easily, quickly and accurately by passing the mixed gas through a column packed with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound which has no halogen atom and reacts with fluorine to form a solid fluoride together with molecular oxygen and/or carbon dioxide and measuring the concentration of oxygen or carbon dioxide in the fluorine-free gas flowed out of the packed column. If the mixed gas initially contains molecular oxygen or carbon dioxide, its concentration is measured separately after fixing fluorine in another column packed with an element which forms a fluoride. This analyzing method can be used in a feedback control system for controlling the concentration of fluorine in an excimer laser gas during operation of the laser to thereby stabilize the laser output power.

  • Patent number: 5149515
Abstract: During the pickling, etching, chemical shaping etc. of steels, stainless steels, special alloys and special metals and the dissolution of those metals, metalliferous solutions of the acids employed arise in the course of such processes which must either be disposed of by neutralization or be used for the recovery of the acids and metals by expensive processes. According to the invention the production or recovery of nitric acid or a mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid takes place by spray-roasting the solutions at temperatures of 200.degree. to 500.degree. in a reactor (1) and subsequent absorptions or condensation of the gases generated in column means (7, 8) at temperatures of 0.degree. to 70.degree. • Patent number: 5148753
Abstract: A transit system is disclosed having a guideway, with the primary of a linear induction motor located at spaced intervals therealong. A train of vehicles is positioned to travel along the guideway and includes the secondary of the linear induction motor. The secondary extends along and between the vehicles in spaced relation with respect to the primary so as to encounter a magnetic field emanating from the primary to cause a thrust to be generated in the secondary. The secondary thereby provides an even distribution of the thrust along the frame, while reducing the loss of power when the train encounters corners and hills.

  • Patent number: 5148406
Abstract: A method for simultaneous collection of seismic data of shallow and deep targets, in which two seismic streamers are towed at different water depths (1 and 2 in FIG. 2), and only one acoustic source of seismic signals is used. The seismic data recorded by the different streamers are mixed in a subsequent processing step, seismic data being weighted before being mixed by a weight which is made dependent on the recorded two-way travel time for the respective streamers, so that data from one or several streamers located at the least water depth receive a weight which decreases with travel time, whereas data from a corresponding number of streamers of greater depths receive a weight which increases with travel time.

  • Patent number: 5146897
Abstract: An intake manifold for a multi cylinder internal combustion engine has a common upstream passage and individual downstream passages, leading individually to cylinders of the engine, respectively. These individual downstream passages are connected between a downstream end of the common upstream passage and the cylinders. Upstream end portions of the individual downstream passages are symmetrically located around a fuel injector, disposed downstream relative to the common upstream passage, and are joined together. At a center of the symmetrically joined upstream end portions of the individual downstream passages, fuel passages are provided to open independently into the upstream end portions so as to introduce fuel from the fuel injector into the individual downstream passages.
