Abstract: A multi-valve internal combustion engine has a plurality of intake valves, and the same number of intake ports as there are intake valves, for each engine cylinder. One of the intake ports forms a helical passage, opening into a center of a combustion chamber of the engine at the location of a spark plug, which is disposed adjacent an intake valve located in the center intake port. In addition to a fuel injector disposed in one of the intake ports, a secondary fuel injector, energized so as to inject fuel when the engine operates at lower loads, is preferably disposed adjacent the intake valve located in the one intake port.
Abstract: A lubrication system for a double overhead camshaft engine has a lubrication oil passage for applying regulated pressurized oil to each of intake and exhaust overhead camshafts for lubrication; oil passages branching off from the lubrication oil passage for applying pressurized oil to hydraulic valve lash adjusters and a variable valve timing mechanism, respectively, for hydraulic operation. The oil passage for the variable valve timing mechanism is formed in one of the intake and exhaust overhead camshafts to which the variable valve timing mechanism is installed and is provided with a control valve for opening the oil passage so as to actuate the hydraulic variable valve timing mechanism with pressurized oil when the engine operates at lower engine speeds.
Abstract: An elongated portable frame is provided including front and rear ends and a mid-length laterally outwardly projecting tubular handle for containing a battery pack. The front end of the frame journals a saw blade therefrom and the saw blade is driven by an electric motor supported from the frame. A pair of rearwardly retractable jaws are disposed on opposite sides of the forward periphery of the saw blade and are opposed by a rearwardly retractable jaw structure disposed forwardly of the forward limit positions of movement of the jaw members and an actuator for the jaw structure is disposed immediately forward of the handle for engagement and rearward displacement by the forefinger of a hand encircling the handle, whereby the jaw structure may be shifted rearwardly to initially clamp a work piece to be cut between the jaws and the jaw structure and thereafter utilized to rearwardly advance the work piece to be cut relative to the saw blade.
Abstract: An electromagnetic vibrating motor requires certain criteria to perform its functions. Such criteria include: achieving high amplitudes from the driven motor when compared with the relatively restricted active gap of a simple electromagnet, the amplitude of the driven member should be unaffected by weight variations or changes in resiliently constraining forces, it should have a stationary member for suspending the system without imparting substantial vibrations to the vicinity, and it should be easily connected to driven member of the system. The present invention includes three masses. The first mass is a driven mass, the second mass is an electromagnetic member and the third mass is a magnetic member. These masses are connected together through springs in order to perform its necessary functions while meeting the required criteria.

Abstract: A fluid coupling has a lockup mechanism, which is unlocked at an increased speed upon a large displacement of an accelerator pedal, and is provided with an activator for applying hydraulic pressure to the lockup mechanism to couple and uncouple the fluid coupling. The activator is controlled by a release controller so as to decrease graudally the hydraulic pressure at a predetermined rate. The fluid coupling is thus uncoupled with a gradual decrease of coupling force when an engine operates in a predetermined engine operating condition. The predetermined rate of pressure change is modified so as to advance uncoupling of the fluid coupling when an engine load is higher than a predetermined engine load, while the release controller controls the activator so as to decrease gradually the hydraulic pressure.

Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided an ingenuously contrived mechanism for controlling the travel of a movable structural member along rails comprising a pair of traveler devices removably engaged with the respective rails and a pair of travel controller that dampen the force pulling the movable member back into the fixed member. With such devices, the movable member can be easily separated from and returned to the fixed member that houses it without requiring any particular operation. Such a mechanism is particularly suited for a cabinet drawer.
Abstract: An air conditioning system including main and auxiliary cooling units for air conditioning the inside of an automotive vehicle has a compressor, variable in discharge volume, for discharging a compressed refrigerant to the main and auxiliary cooling units. The compressor is controlled to vary its discharge volume, according to a thermal loading on the vehicle, so as to provide conditioning air cooled by the main cooling unit to a desired temperature according to the thermal load. When a demand for cooling from the auxiliary cooling unit is greater than a demand for cooling from the main cooling unit, the compressor is controlled to vary its discharge volume according to the demand for cooling from the auxiliary cooling unit, and vice versa.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method to determine the temperature of one or both surfaces of the two surfaces of a Peltier element. One then calculates the temperature difference (dT) between the surfaces from a known relation for the Seebeck voltage (U.sub.p) as a function of the temperature difference and the mean temperature (T.sub.i) of the element from a known relation for the temperature dependence of the internal resistance (R.sub.i) of the element. Finally, to the mean temperature (T.sub.i) one adds and from it subtracts respectively half the temperature difference (dT) between the surfaces.

In order to obtain a multifunctional bag which can be easily and economically manufactured and readily recycled, the edge portion of one side wall protrudes beyond the edge portion of the other side wall, the protruding edge portion having a slit-like cut so that the protruding edge portion can be folded over the opposite side of the bag.
Abstract: Bone-containing animal material, such as slaughterhouse waste which has been scoured and dewatered by pressing, is separated into a bone-containing phase and a meat protein-containing phase by stirring the material with water after comminution to form a suspension (2) which is subjected to a separation in a hydrocyclone (8). The suspension is hereby separated into a bone-containing phase leaving the cyclone through its bottom nozzle, and into a meat protein-containing phase leaving the cyclone through its vortex detector and being processed into a protein product in a manner known per se.In the phase rich in meat protein at least about 70 weight-% of the dry matter is protein, whereas the bone-containing phase has a protein-content in the dry matter of less than 40 weight-%, including the ossein contained in the bones.
Abstract: A counterweight handling device for construction equipment such as cranes in which a counterweight can be elevated to a predetermined height by using particulate hydraulic components then supported on a mounting frame. The counterweight may be supported by a pair of rectangular rotating blocks mounted on the counterweight mounting frame and which slide through a pair of vertical grooves in vertical position into supporting hollows in the counterweight bottom and turn through 90.degree. so as to support the counterweight by blocking the vertical grooves. Alternatively a pair of sliding pins mounted on the counterweight mounting frame may be extended into inverted V shaped notches on the counterweight bottom so as to support the counter weight. The counterweight can then be fastened on the counterweight mounting frame. Later the counterweight can be removed.
