Abstract: A system and method for automatically calibrating a Time-of-Flight (TOF) transceiver system for proximity/motion detection, is provided. Moreover, the system comprises a component that senses a signal (e.g., current or voltage) at an light emitting diode (LED), an attenuator, a signal injector at a sensor and a switching circuit that toggles between a normal mode (e.g., when signal from the sensor is input to the sensor front end) and a calibration mode (e.g., when signal from the attenuator is input to the sensor front end). During the calibration mode, the sensor front end identifies the phase delay error within the signal path, including board and/or package parasitic, and accounts for the phase delay error during proximity/motion detection in the normal mode.

Abstract: A method for improving heavy-to-light load transient response in low-power switch-mode power supplies is described. It uses a negative voltage input power rail and a digital controller with an extended duty ratio control value to provide faster discharging current slew rate in the switched mode power supplies (SMPS) inductor.

Abstract: A pneumostoma management system includes a pneumostoma management device for maintaining the patency of a pneumostoma and a drug delivery device for pneumostoma care. The drug delivery device may be used to introduce therapeutic agents into the pneumostoma for direct treatment of the pneumostoma, treatment of the lung by way of collateral ventilation, and/or treatment of non-lung tissues by diffusion into the bloodstream. The drug delivery device includes a therapeutic agent dispenser for supplying a therapeutic agent and a propellant at positive pressure, an outlet and a connector for correctly positioning the outlet relative to a pneumostoma management device. The drug delivery device includes a self-centering and self-sealing connector for engaging the pneumostoma management device.

Abstract: The present invention enables a store-and-forward service that provides higher availability for application residing or connecting to a server to reliably deliver messages and allows an application to send messages to a destination on another server even when the destination is not available at the moment the messages are sent because of network problems or system failures. The messages will be stored durably and temporarily on a local server, and then be efficiently forwarded to the destination once it becomes available.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to nitride-based, red-emitting phosphors in red, green, and blue (RGB) lighting systems, which in turn may be used in backlighting displays and warm white-light applications. In particular embodiments, the red-emitting phosphor is based on CaAlSiN3 type compounds activated with divalent europium. In one embodiment, the nitride-based, red emitting compound contains a solid solution of calcium and strontium compounds (Ca,Sr)AlSiN3:Eu2+, wherein the impurity oxygen content is less than about 2 percent by weight. In another embodiment, the (Ca,Sr)AlSiN3:Eu2+ compounds further contains a halogen in an amount ranging from about zero to about 2 atomic percent, where the halogen may be fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), or any combination thereof. In one embodiment at least half of the halogen is distributed on 2-fold coordinated nitrogen (N2) sites relative to 3-fold coordinated nitrogen (N3) sites.

Abstract: A dynamic spinal stabilization component which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. The component may be integrated in a bone anchor for implantation in a bone of the spine. The component and bone anchor provide load sharing while preserving range of motion and reducing stress exerted upon the bone anchors and spinal anatomy. The dynamic spinal stabilization component includes a deflectable post connected by a ball-joint to a threaded anchor. Deflection of the deflectable post is controlled by an axially compressible spring. The force/deflection properties of the dynamic bone anchor may be adapted to the anatomy and functional requirements of the patient. The dynamic spinal stabilization component may be used as a component of a dynamic stabilization system which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion.

Abstract: A portal containing a plurality of controls that are represented by a meta control hierarchy representing, wherein each node in the meta control hierarchy holds information of one of the plurality of controls. Upon receiving a request from a user for rendering of the portal, a control hierarchy can be created based on the meta control hierarchy. A portal managing component is operable to retrieve a portion of the meta control hierarchy from a cache and create the remaining portion of the meta control hierarchy that does not exist in cache from an XML markup file of the portal.

In embodiments, the number of references to a source object may be extracted by traversing a source inheritance hierarchy and parsing the objects within the hierarchy. In embodiments, an object relevance display of a set of objects may be generated based in part on object relevance values of the set of objects. In embodiments, an object relevance display may be a molecular display, a flash tag cloud, and/or a source tree hierarchy.

Abstract: A computer-based method configures a hardware circuit to transfer a message to a message queue in an operating system. The hardware circuit is used to transfer a message to the message queue in the operating system without requiring use of either the operating system or a hypervisor associated with the operating system. The configuring includes tieing (i) a value in a head pointer register with a head pointer for the message queue stored in the hardware circuit and (ii) a value in a tail pointer register for the message queue with a tail pointer for the message queue stored in the hardware circuit so that the value in the head pointer register equals the stored head pointer and the value in the tail pointer register equals the stored tail pointer. The using the hardware circuit uses a logical identifier associated with the message to select an entry in a mapping table of the hardware circuit. A value in the entry in the mapping table is used to select an entry in an action table.

Abstract: Provided herein are optical sensor systems that can be used for ambient light detection, proximity detection and motion detection, as well as to larger systems that include such an optical sensor system, and to related methods. In an embodiment, the optical sensor system includes a front end, an ambient light channel, a proximity channel and a motion channel. In an embodiment, offset and gain of the proximity channel is adjusted based on motion detected by the motion channel.

Abstract: A bone anchor comprising a self-centering ball-joint suitable for use in a spine stabilization prosthesis which supports the spine while providing for the preservation of spinal motion. The bone anchor has a deflectable ball-rod partially received in a socket of a housing formed in the head of the bone anchor. A centering rod received partially in the ball-rod and partially within the housing operates to align the ball-rod with the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. Deflection of the ball-rod bends the centering rod which in turn applies a restoring force upon the ball-rod.

Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing transient resource usage between virtual machines, e.g. Java Virtual Machines (JVMs), running within a hypervisor. In accordance with an embodiment, the system allows for synchronizing garbage collection and code optimization to reduce transient processor (cpu) and memory usage. In accordance with an embodiment, the system comprises a computer; a hypervisor for executing virtual servers running JVMs; a communication channel between the virtual servers; wherein each virtual server further comprises non-transient and transient memory and a synchronization module. In accordance with an embodiment the synchronization modules schedule garbage collects and code optimizations to minimize overlaps, thereby reducing the peak transient memory and cpu usage and the resulting volatility of transient resource usage within a computer. In accordance with another embodiment, a cloud manager can move virtual servers between computers to optimize computer volatility within a cloud.

Abstract: An interactive system provides for increasing retrieval performance of images depicting text by allowing users to provide relevance feedback on words contained in the images. The system includes a user interface through which the user queries the system with query terms for images contained in the system. Word image suggestions are displayed to the user through the user interface, where each word image suggestion contains the same or slightly variant text as recognized from the word image by the system than the particular query terms. Word image suggestions can be included in the system by the user to increase system recall of images for the one or more query terms and can be excluded from the system by the user to increase precision of image retrieval results for particular query terms.

Abstract: A gateway is described that performs processing of communications by employing a series of service interceptors. The interceptors can be registered in the gateway by using a configuration file. Once registered, the interceptors can be invoked in a particular sequence for the requests coming into the gateway. Each interceptor can deny the request, allow the request, abstain from processing the request and pass the request to the next interceptor specified by the sequence. The interceptors can also modify the various data associated with the request. There can be dependencies between multiple interceptors. In addition, new custom interceptors can be created and registered at the gateway to process incoming requests.

Abstract: An embodiment of a device in accordance with the present invention is adapted to be positioned at least partially in a mouth of a user to reduce resistance of air flow in the oral pharyngeal region and to improve anatomic and functional relationships of the oral pharyngeal structure. The device comprises a base unit adapted to be removably mounted on a lower jaw of the mouth, a pair of tongue positioner guides, each tongue positioner guide connected at a proximal end to the base unit, and a pair of tongue positioners, each connected with a distal end of a corresponding tongue positioner guide. When the base unit is mounted on the lower jaw, the tongue positioners are adapted to be arranged beneath a tongue of the mouth so that the tongue is urged against a soft palette of the mouth to thereby reduce resistance of air flow in the oral pharyngeal region and improve anatomic and functional relationships of the oral pharyngeal structure.
