  • Patent number: 4146174
Abstract: A magnetic information card encoding apparatus wherein the train of clock pulses used to synchronize the release of binary data from a storage register to a recorder head is generated by the motion of the card itself. Structural means forms a card receiving slot into which the card is manually inserted and removed. A rotatable carriage assembly consists of a drive shaft, photoelectric means responsive to rotation of the drive shaft for generating the clock pulse train, an idler wheel, and spring biasing means for urging the idler wheel against the drive shaft in a friction drive relationship. A second spring biasing means urges the carriage assembly to rotate such that the idler wheel frictionally engages the card so as to be driven thereby. A switch is actuated by the leading edge of the card to provide a signal defining the position of the card in the slot. The arrangement is such that the information card is erased on insertion and encoded on withdrawal.

  • Patent number: 4113502
Abstract: Refractory compositions containing alumina or aluminum silicate and a phosphate bonding agent can be improved by the addition of from 0.2 to 1.5 percent tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) in combination with bentonite. The TSPP minimizes the amount of bentonite required for good workability in aqueous formulations for ramming or hand applications, thereby miximizing density and minimizing water required for tempering, also extending the storage life of these refractories and maintaining a high percentage of initial workability over a period of several months.

  • Patent number: 4097698
Abstract: A seismonastic control apparatus has a ball mounted in a concavity for unobstructed movement into contact with a displaceable disc which actuates a two-mode control device on predetermined tilting or shock loading of the apparatus. To increase the kinetic energy of the ball and thus facilitate displacement of the disc, the seat is formed with a circular region at which the inclination of the seat to the central axis of the apparatus increases. As the ball crosses this region it is accelerated more rapidly because its path becomes more closely aligned with the resultant force acting on the ball.

  • Patent number: 4071723
Abstract: A shock-responsive control apparatus has a seismic ball mounted in a seat formed in a cup-shaped member and surrounding the plunger of a switch. As the ball crosses a circular region, at which the inclination of the seat to the central axis of the apparatus increases, its path becomes more closely aligned with the resultant force acting on the apparatus and the ball is accelerated more rapidly out of obstructing engagement with the plunger.Sensitivity is controlled by moving the seat relative to the plunger by means of a screw-threaded mounted cover for the cup-shaped member.

  • Patent number: 4059569
Abstract: It has been found that a sulphur containing resin which is the condensation product of (i) one or more mercaptoaldehydes and (ii) one or more meta-substituted phenols has good antioxidant properties. Mixtures of m/p-alkylphenols are used to particular advantage in the production of this resin. A small amount of the resin retards the oxidation of rubbers or polyolefins and the resin is particularly useful as a melt stabilizer during the extrusion of a polymer.
