  • Patent number: 4056398
Abstract: High alumina, phosphate containing refractory plastic composition suitable for placement by mechanical vibration using molding techniques are maximized in density and shelf life while requiring minimum water content for ease of placement through the combining of a relatively low content of bentonite with a small addition of tetrasodium pyrophosphate. The resulting compositions are easy to place by vibration with minimal tendency to slump on removal of forms.

  • Patent number: 4035497
Abstract: Alkyl esters, dialkylamides and heterocyclic amides of 4-amino-alkyl-4-cyano-4-phenyl-butanoic and but-2-enoic acids substituted in at least one of the 2 and 3 positions by a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group or by a divalent alkylene radical which together with at least one of the carbon atoms at said 2 and 3 positions forms a carbocyclic ring of 3 to 8 carbon atoms are novel intermediates involved in the preparation of pharmacologically active compounds. They also have pharmacological, in particular central nervous system, especially anti-depressant or cardiovascular activity. Several methods are disclosed for preparing the novel compounds.

  • Patent number: 4035499
Abstract: 5,10-Dihydro-imidazo(1,2b)isoquinolines substituted in the 2- and/or 3-position(s) by an aromatic group have analgesic, anti-inflammatory or anti-pyretic activity. Except for 2-phenyl-5,10-dihydroimidazo(1,2b)isoquinoline, they are believed to be novel compounds. They can be prepared in manner known per se by heating a 2-acylmethyl isoquinolinium salt with an ammonium salt of an organic acid or by reaction of a 3-amino-1,4-dihydroisoquinoline with an .alpha.-halogenocarbonyl compound.

  • Patent number: 3985710
Abstract: A condensation product of a mercaptoaldehyde, e.g. butylmercaptopropionaldehyde, and phenol or a phenol having a substituent ortho or para to the hydroxyl group and being unsubstituted in a position ortho or para to the hydroxyl group, e.g. o-cresol, has free radical inhibiting and hydroperoxide decomposing properties. The condensate also has metal deactivating properties when the phenol has a halogen in an ortho or para position. The condensate which may be a bisphenol or a liquid or solid resinous material, is particularly useful as an antioxidant in liquid hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 3946206
Abstract: A flexible resilient magnetic particle type information card capable of correctly reading information thereon after such card has been bent double on itself and creased, said card comprising a flexible base, a layer of uniformly distributed magnetic particles thereon, and a flexible overlayer of nonmagnetic material, said over layer having a thickness of at least 2 mils, said layer of magnetic particles being magnetically encoded, the magnetic flux transitions of such encoding being at least 0.02 inch apart and said magnetic particle layer being enclosed between the base layer and over layer and spaced from the edges of the card.A method of storing information in binary data form comprising magnetically recording information on a magnetic strip that has an over layer of at least 2 mils by inducing transitions in the magnetization of the strip at a minimum spacing of 0.02-0.1 inch.

  • Patent number: 3935207
Abstract: Organic compounds are prepared by a novel method of conjugate addition in which a donor compound including a carbanion derived from an activated methylidyne group is treated with an acceptor compound including a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond conjugated with an onium ion derived from a polar functional group. The method has particular application as a step in the production of novel intermediates and novel pharmacologically active compounds as disclosed in the Applicants' co-pending application of even date.
