  • Patent number: 4164780
Abstract: A housing assembly (10) connects a lamp (11) to a frame (12) of a work vehicle (53) or machine for general illumination. The lamp (11) is removable for use as an inspection lamp. The frame (12) has an opening (14) and a first flange (16). In the assembly (10), a lamp housing (24) has first and second opposed walls (28,30) and a front wall (32). The housing (24) is movable between a first position (34) at which the front wall (32) covers the frame opening (14) and a second position (36) at which the front wall (32) is spaced from the frame opening (14). The flange (16) and first wall (28) each have a respective one of a protrusion (20) and opening (22). The protrusion (20) and opening (22) are mated at the first position (34). Apparatus (26) removably connects the housing (24) to the frame (12) and maintains the housing (24) at the first position (34) for using the lamp (11) fixed to the frame (12) and allowing removal of the lamp (11) for use at other locations.

  • Patent number: 4159857
Abstract: A track assembly comprises a pair of laterally spaced links releasably secured to each track shoe thereof. A drive lug extends between the links and a rail is disposed on each link. A plurality of bolts provide common fasteners for releasably securing the links, track shoe, drive lug and rails together. A pair of such bolts are preferably disposed on each lateral side of each link to increase the lateral stability of the links and overall structure integrity of the track assembly.

  • Patent number: 4159650
Abstract: A welded assembly has first and second portions connected one to the other by welds about a common axis. Testing apparatus holds one of the portions against rotation about the axis and controllably exerts a torquing force of a preselected magnitude on the other portion. The torquing force is exerted about the axis and oriented relative to the welds for exerting a radial force through each of said welds. Application of the torquing force and radial forces provides nondestructive testing of the welded assembly and of the welds of the assembly, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4099763
Abstract: A seal construction including a metallic channel having a base, spaced side walls extending from the base in the same direction, and arms spaced from the base on the side walls and having ends directed toward, but spaced, from each other. A resilient strip is removably captured in the channel and extends therefrom for engagement with an element to be sealed. The channel base may be welded to a metallic element prior to insertion of the resilient strip to obviate the need for aligned openings for securing means such as screws, bolts, or the like and/or bonding agents of dubious reliability in varying environments.

  • Patent number: 4086824
Abstract: A dual braking arrangement is provided for a vehicle whereby setting the hand brake will not affect the positioning of the foot-brake pedal and conversely the actuation of the foot-brake pedal will not affect the positioning of the hand-brake lever. A split linkage is provided whereby the brake actuator is splined to a dual operative lever, such that actuation of the dual operative lever by either the linkage connected to the hand-brake lever or the linkage connected to the foot-brake pedal, will actuate the brake.

  • Patent number: 4080008
Abstract: Drive or driven wheels of a track-type vehicle have a hub and a plurality of teeth around the outer periphery each of which are spaced one from the other by an intervening root having an opening. A biasing hoop assembly having a multiplicity of generally concentric biasing hoops encompass the hub and are positioned between the hub and teeth. Actuating apparatus extends from the root into contact with the biasing hoop assembly and is generaly movable for deflecting the biasing hoops and resisting entry into the root for dampening impact, loads, and noise of elements entering the root.

  • Patent number: 4076287
Abstract: An improved prepared joint is provided on a fitting for mechanically joining it to the end of a metal tube. The fitting has a grooved bore and a bore extending end portion for projecting the bore a predetermined distance beyond its grooved portion so that during radial expansion of the tube into the grooved portion the entire expanded length of the tube is fully supported within the fitting. Such support is effective in extending the useful life of the tube assembly formed by the fitting and tube by alleviating metal fatigue failures due to vibrational bending stresses in the expanded portion of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4063624
Abstract: An air brake control system of high reliability is provided for a vehicle of the type having front wheel brakes, rear wheel brakes, a first brake control element such as a pedal which actuates the front and rear brakes, and a second brake control element such as a pedal which also actuates the front and rear brakes. First and second pneumatic circuit means for controlling the brakes are duplicated back to the outlet of the air compressor in an arrangement where one side of the circuit is automatically isolated from the other to maintain braking capacity if a loss of air pressure occurs on the one side. Means is associated with air streams of only a selected one of the first and second means for providing a function absent in said first and second means. A transmission neutralizer is also operated by one of the pedals.
