  • Patent number: 4730115
Abstract: The present invention relates to a transformer system and a direct current power supply for obtaining a dc current including a luminous body disposed on the primary side for converting a electric power into a light and a solar cell unit disposed on the secondary side, opposing the luminous body, for receiving light emitted from the luminous body and for converting the light into electric power, thereby constituting a transformer which is further provided with an input control circuit and an output control circuit so as to configure a dc power supply. According to this apparatus, a stable dc current can be obtained without generating the magnetic field and noise problems of typical wound core transformers.

  • Patent number: 4727647
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for gripping DIP components automatically without the need for shutting down the machine to change the tooling assembly when handling components which differ in width. Two sets of fingers are provided, with one set inside the other, such that engagement of the inner pair with a wide component causes automatic retraction of them sufficiently for gripping of the component by the outer pair. In the absence of a component, the inner pair of fingers is automatically extended for subsequent component handling.

  • Patent number: 4721159
Abstract: A capsule for conveying chemicals through a borehole for stopping lost circulation is totally made from a thermoplastic or fragile material or has a bottom plate made from such a material. The capsule containing the chemicals is let down until it reaches the location of the lost circulation, where the capsule is either destroyed by a drilling rod or softened by the high temperature and high pressure at the location. Thus, the chemicals are diffused.

  • Patent number: 4719754
Abstract: A wave-activated power generating apparatus in the form of a buoy includes a floatable main body provided with a vertically extending central pipe having its bottom open end opened into the water and its top open end located above the water surface when the main body floats in the water surface, an air turbine disposed at the top open end of the central pipe, a generator operatively coupled to the air turbine, and a plate-shaped guide plate fixedly attached to the main body as located opposite to and separated away from the bottom open end of the central pipe. The provision of the bottom guide plate allows to define a laterally opened circular opening between the guide plate and the bottom of the main body, through which the water moves into and out of the central pipe. This structure allows to use the present apparatus even in shallow waters.

  • Patent number: 4714905
Abstract: A microwave bandpass filter for frequencies in the range of 30-3000 MHz comprises a substrate formed from dielectric ceramic sheets fused together and stacked according to a dielectric constant required of the filter capacitors, the plates of which are formed on the substrate. Discrete air core coils, to provide greater frequency selectivity in this particular frequency range, are attached into the circuit on a top surface of the substrate, and a drawn metal can covers the circuitry on the top surface and is soldered to a metallized coating extending over substantially all of the rest of the substrate except for surface mounting lead portions and associated conductive paths. Thus, EMI and RFI shielding is provided by the combination of the metal can and the ground plane of the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4710755
Abstract: An alarm for a milk cooler which sounds when the temperature of milk within the cooler exceeds a predetermined value. A switch permits the device to be turned off to prevent it from sounding when milk is being discharged from the cooler or when the cooler is being cleaned with hot cleaning solvent. However when fresh milk is being introduced into the cooler that switch is overridden and the alarm sounds should the milk not be cooled to the required temperature after a predetermined interval of time.

  • Patent number: 4706753
Abstract: A capsule for conveying chemicals through a borehole for stopping lost circulation has a fragile bottom plate. A weight for destroying the bottom plate is suspended above the capsule by a cord which extends over knife edges. A messenger for cutting the cord is mounted to a wire line. The weight is caused to collide with the messenger to cut the cord, for breaking the bottom plate. Thus, the chemicals are diffused.

  • Patent number: 4705313
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a depending pair of fingers may be caused to grip a component on an inside surface by spreading the fingers apart or to grip the outside surface of a component by closing the fingers upon the component, with the relative orientation of the gripping faces of the fingers depending upon sliding displacement of the tool posts supporting the fingers. The fingers are driven into positive engagement with the surface to be gripped, for both inside and outside gripping, via positive displacement and spreading of cam followers by a cam which, in turn, is displaced by a fluid cylinder. Alternatively, the fingers may be biased into engagement with the surface to be gripped, for both inside and outside gripping, with disengagement of the fingers being provided by positive displacement and spreading of the followers by the cam.

  • Patent number: 4697194
Abstract: A data recording device in which an emitter, normally an electron gun, is mounted within an evacuatable tube into which a sensitive recordable film may be introduced so that no part of the tube interposes between the emitter and the area of the film to be recorded. The film may be held on a grid in the tube or on a separate platen. The invention avoids the interposition of glass and coating material between the emitter and film and so can record with finer detail on the film. Also the device is very suitable for fast film handling by conveying the film on a gas stream into the tube and away.
